that's perfect then! he's from a big working class family and didn't have a lot of money growing up, so he's been working at the lumber mill that his dad now manages since he was 14. he's incredibly smart and sarcastic and ended up getting a free ride to reed college that he squandered and his mom and best friend are still kind of ticked at him for that one. he was wild when he was younger and likely got into quite a bit of trouble with his younger brothers. other than that, i can't imagine simon has changed too much. he's still likely working on the same novel he would have told her about after a drunken night out, working the same job, living in the same house. so it'll be an interesting case of arrested development/simon stagnating and being okay with that while simultaneously being met with her going off and living her life because she wants more, which i LOVE.
