early 30sish, probably. i was working with the idea that he actually grew up with his parents and they're still around, but his aunt and uncle were a huge influence on his life and nurturing his interest in the sciences from the time he showed interest in bill nye, checking books out from the library, asking for science kits at the store, etc. he was a bit of a child prodigy when it came to that and able to skip a few grades, which did mess with his ability to socialize and relate to his peers. he was around older people for the most part and he hadn't been able to connect well when he WAS around kids his own age. blah blah blah school, he ended up studying biochemical engineering in college... where he also wasn't taken the most seriously because of his age, but he did have the brains to back it up. flash forward, he DIDN'T get his doctorate, much to his parents disappointment, but he's been working and holding his own in labs and doing research.
he's definitely an awkward person who puts his foot into his mouth all of the time, uses humor to deflect and lighten situations, and he's actually pretty optimistic and hopeful even if his sense of humor can be super self-deprecating and dark.
