I never meant to imply that they were, and I don't think that they are unless there's been a written explanation in a character's history for them being the way they are. I understand that much.
As I explained above, I wasn't purposefully thinking of him in the sense that all Asians look the same. I was drawing from a cartoon and illustrated version of these characters and decided on his face from my knowledge of what I knew and what I thought would look like them.
Yes, it is lazy, but this is a hobby, not a history lesson. And in the given setting, China or Asia as we know it, wouldn't actually exist, so my brain didn't rationalize it past that. It was only later that I realized someone was likely to take offense (people do and can over a wide number of things), and again, that was in part why I decided against it but I still wanted input.
Someone calling me ignorant without actually knowing me isn't an awesome feeling. That sort of quick and harsh judgement over something like race is more hurtful than helpful in my opinion. It seems more likely to make someone angry in response and then no one would get anywhere in the end. I just don't think race is something so narrow and simple.
