Am I seriously the only one who enjoyed the latest BBC adaptation of The Witness for the Prosecution? Thought the ending was devastatingly sad, if not quite as well executed as And Then There Were None from the year before. If you want to talk crippling let-downs, I'm still recovering from the mediocrity that was Our Kind of Traitor--especially on the tail of The Night Manager, which was nothing short of superb if one overlooks the ending. All those delays and that's what they came up with... I actually find most Agatha Christie adaptations at least marginally entertaining and brilliantly acted for the most part, save occasionally for the poorly prepared American accent that makes even my untrained ears cringe in shame. Now, my opinion of BBC Sherlock will probably have half (all?) the server after me with pitchforks... Anyway! Back to the fishing hole for one line only.
i. PSL revolving entirely around non-linear exchange of letters, à la Pismovnik. I've actually had great success with this over /r/ that evolved to handwritten letters by post, but I travel frequently and life unfortunately intervened. Would love to rekindle something loosely based, involving a phantasmagoric whirlwind relationship that paves way to a slow-burning fever and eventual marriage that deteriorates. I have a couple of ideas, but open to yours, too!Got this filled over /r/, but recent talks of cinematic adaptations have left me thirsting for one of below as well! Any takers, hit me up. May even consider semi-fandom. Edit: Oh man, my friend just had the most interesting theory about The Young Pope. Damn these great characters queueing up in my head, but defo willing to go somewhere with this. ii. A whimsical line involving a bumblesome sleuth who lucks into solving every case that lands on his proverbial desk. More sobering variations: two LEOs with complicated lives and motives, scandinoir, line that follows a non-human entity (such as an artefact or a building). iii. PSL involving a murder outfit that furnishes a kind of wild justice for those who have suffered injustice. Can be more action/spy-fi, cerebral thriller, dramedy, character piece, political variation inspired by Le Carré... Very flexible. iv. Situational comedy?
My sensitivity has a high tolerance so don't be afraid to throw in dark elements. Line does need to be plot driven with emotional/intellectual bonding preceding (if any) physical intimacy written out at length. I love unreliable narrators, POV and parallel stories with interchangeable hero/villain dichotomy. I will say that I do not personally care for pretend Tinder/FB/IG/what-have-you, themes of easy virtue or lowbrow crime (unless as a peripheral plot device), circus, zombies, or aliens. Besides well-researched drama, I may consider sci-fi, historical fantasy and supernatural, though bear in mind I do tend to be pernickety. I probably won't find werewolves and a hundred different species of fairies very compelling. Not a knock on any of these; just not my cup of tea. I prefer the male voice 99% of the time, though I may consider a female if asked. Please note that I will be very picky with the face and role for the latter. Should mention that I tunnel into my private machine when accessing ij in transit as I prefer to maintain a strict distance between myself and 'rp,' and it will be a slower medium than if we were to write over, say, /r/, which at least is mobile friendly. But, that's part of the charm here; easier to compartmentalise and less intimate than /r/. Shrugs. So if you're feeling adventurous, let me know; otherwise I'll have a custom for you when time allows!
