The parent (or parents) would have started the family business and raised the kids in it. The kids (one or several of them) had real talent in the field and ended up expanding the business' popularity. As the kids aged, they bought into the business. Eventually, the already strained dynamic (emotional and mental abuse, constant arguing, etc) led (or will lead) to the family splitting both as a family unit and as a business.
I'm thinking the family would have the parent (or parents) and 2 or 3 kids. If you'd be interested in any of the roles (I haven't decided who I'd like to play) comment. If I get more than one bite, I'll set up a custom in my journal where we can all plot, choose a home, and work things out in more detail.
