so basically, jane hates their mother, and their father isn't really in the picture at all, so as far as she's concerned her little brother is the only family worth paying any mind to. she loves him, he's her favorite person in the world and she'd do just about anything for him. their mother married their father for money, she's absolutely the stereotypical gold digger. a few years after the birth of their son, they divorced (cheating, fighting, etc) and went their separate ways. their mom moved them from la to orange county (i'm thinking huntington beach, probably) where she met and married her second rich husband. that ended in another divorce, and she's currently on rich husband number three. it's just been a messy life of step fathers and angry parent fights, and jane basically would have escaped the second she could if it wasn't for him.
