There is some stuff about her in his journal. They're pretty close. They went through a breast cancer scare with their mom a few years ago. His sister has lived with him off and on a few different times. She'd have a childhood friend/best friend (your choice) in ~brez. She'd know his ex ~andromedan because she is also his neighbor.
