WHAT ELSE TO DO BUT JOIN THE CREW...
Who: Sean and Victor
What: Two bored men, finding something to do. Easy enough... Right?
When: Evening time.
Where: Starting with meeting in the Pax lobby.

Victor had been pleasantly surprised at the new prospects of the evening. Not that he didn't enjoy his own company just fine, but... He had to admit it. He was bored. And really, solitary introspection was the last thing he really wanted at the moment.

He still didn't know too many people in the building, but the one's he'd met so far were... interesting, so say the least. There was Vanessa. He liked the woman, to be sure. Not like that, really. But she had been the first one he'd met, and she was... kind. And... well. No introspection.

He hoped that this guy would be a bit more even-natured than that Idris guy. That whole night was still almost more like a dream than reality. Then again, there had been a lot of liquor.

But, a night out and away from his apartment, his own slowly dwindling stash of bourbon and wine, and his thoughts sounded just fine to him.

This Sean hadn't mentioned exactly what they were going to do, but Victor assumed (perhaps foolishly) that is wasn't going to be anything too fancy. He could always come back up to change, if it was a problem, but he usually dressed casual but nice. Dressed in nice dark wash blue jeans, black boots, a comfortable storm cloud grey ribbed shirt and slightly worn black leather jacket, Victor headed down to the lobby, right on time.

"That sounds like a plan, let's get going then." Sean had called a cab before they had gone down to the lobby, because a fun night out on the town, an escape from Pax and life in general wouldn't be complete without a drink or two, or three or four...

Sean exited the lobby and headed into the cab with Victor, holding the cab door open for him to be polite. He gave the cabbie the name of a sports bar downtown. Sean wasn't one to exactly seek out a game of football, but he enjoyed it when it was already on, and there was nothing quite as fun as a sports bar environment, they always made for amazing drinking locals. "So Victor, tell me about yourself."

"Thanks." Victor slid into the cab and scooted over to the other side to let Sean in. Certainly a polite young man... Victor still didn't want to jump to any conclusions, but he was getting a strange feeling that he couldn't quite place. Not like he needed any more of those. First Vanessa and then Idris... Maybe it was just the people who lived out here.

Looking out the window as the cab headed off towards the bar Sean had named, Victor shrugged a bit at the question. "Not too much to tell, I suppose. I came out here from Portland, Oregon not too long ago. Starting fresh. Need to find a job," he chuckled a little at the end. He hadn't even really given much serious thought to what he was going to do with his life after he had gotten to Pax. Now he was here - hell, he'd been here for a little bit now, and he still wasn't much closer to figuring it out. He wondered vaguely if in another few weeks he'd be kicking himself for just moving out on little more than a whim and a gut feeling.

"Just getting settled in and use to this place, about sums it up." Turning a bit, he looked over at Sean. "What about you? What's your story?"

As Sean talked to Victor, he was also getting a strange feeling, it was a feeling of comfort and a desire to protect Victor, which was extremely bizarre. After Halloween, nothing really surprised Sean, and he had to wonder if it had anything to do with Geb. That wasn't exactly something you could ask though was it? Excuse me sir, I know we've just met and all, but I have a god inside my, the Egyptian male earth god named Geb. Do you have a god inside of you as well? You do? Super! I bet we're related.

No.

Instead Sean nodded and listened to Victor's plight. "There are plenty of places around here to get temporary jobs until you find something better. Any work is better than no work, that's for sure." His story, did Victor have a year? "Well, I teach yoga and meditation somewhere locally, and I'm a Buddhist vegetarian who was raised in a meat lovers Christian paradise. I moved here to get away from family that don't talk to me and for my current job."

Quite an interesting tale, though Victor couldn't help the soft frown that pulled at this lips at the mention of Sean needing to escape his family. Sure, no family was perfect, but... Victor thought that the ties that held them together were meant to be cherished. As one never knew when they might be severed.

Still, even if Victor didn't quite agree with how Sean had dealt with his family, it was actually becoming more and more comfortable, just to talk with him. "Yoga, meditation, and Buddhist vegetarianism. Sounds like you have at least figured your life out. That's more than a lot of people can say." More than Victor could say, at present, either.

"But I'll probably start putting feelers out for some work this week. I'm good with business and research, so I suppose I'll start there. If you hear anything through the grape vine, I'd be grateful if you could pass it along. I'm not too worried, but... like you said. Any work is better than no work, right?"

Sean would have thought that too, but apparently his family didn't share that sentiment that Sean and Victor had. Only his siblings continued to talk to him once he had become Buddhist, and only his sister continued to talk to him once he came out of the closet (well, partially since he was bi). That was their decision and he couldn't change that, because he certainly wouldn't hide who he was. "My family would like me to not have my life figured out, but enough of that?" Why was Sean talking about his family so freely, as if Victor cared? He suddenly felt this strong urge to get to know him better, and yet here he was talking about his own problems.

Sean nodded, and he was sure that if he wanted to, he could get Victor some kind of job. He had some random connections through his clients at the center, which had quickly become very strong connections. "I'll definitely see what I can do for you."

"No need to go out of your way." But Victor was smiling, regardless. It was true - he didn't want Sean to do him any favors. They hardly knew one another, after all. But, still, it somehow felt good to know that someone was... looking out for him? And especially knowing that it was Sean. It felt... good. Comforting. Weird, too, but. He was starting to get more and more use to the slightly weird accompanying just about everything around here.

"But... thanks. I'll make it up to you. First round will be on me tonight, for starters." He certainly wasn't indebted to this man. Sean hadn't actually done anything for Victor yet. But, for some reason, Victor felt like he would. Or that he had. Might. Whatever.

Did it really matter? They were kindred spirits, somehow. Victor thought himself to be a decent judge of character, and Sean definitely seemed to be a good guy. So, he might as well roll with it.

What could possibly go wrong?

"Oh it won't be going out of my way. I can think of a few people off of the top of my head who I'll simply ask. It's simply a matter of talking to them about you and work instead of every day small talk." The cab stopped at Muldoons, and Sean paid for the cab, giving him a decent tip. "I've heard about this place through Pax, I think someone works here." It was Vanessa, but it was her day off.

"I hear they have amazing beer, but I'm sure they have other drinks if you don't care for beer." Although Sean had a hard time imagining that it was possible to NOT like beer. Sean had a very strange feeling, something akin to guilt somehow, guilt that he hadn't gotten to know Victor better up until now. Of course that was crazy, why should it matter if he knew him or not? A god living inside of him suddenly got even more confusing as Geb's feelings clearly mixed with his own.

"Have you ever felt like you've already known someone?" Sean decided to just throw it out there as he found them seats at the bar, grabbing a drink menu.

"Beer's good. Beer and whiskey. Food of the gods." Victor chuckled a bit, but even as he said it, something in his stomach turned a little. Not in a sickening way, but as if someone else had been let in on the joke, and it wasn't him. And it wasn't Sean, either.

He sat next to the man at the bar, settling in easily. Vanessa worked here, he recalled, but as he gazed down the bar, he didn't see her. He couldn't recall what nights she had on and what nights she didn't, so maybe she was working her other job tonight. Oh well. He'd have to tell her he'd stopped by. Or maybe not - as he hadn't invited her. Not that... he should have? Right? Gah, too much thinking about things he didn't (or at least shouldn't) be thinking so hard about at the moment.

Sean's question brought him back to the present, though it didn't really help him stray much from his present line of thinking. "Like, past lives, you mean? Or just that you get along really well?" Either way... he'd been feeling a lot of... both. Or either, or... well, something, lately.

"Uh, I guess so. Yeah. I don't know if I completely buy in to the past life stuff, but..." But... Victor hesitated. "I guess that you can just click with another person, yeah. Some people just work, right?"

Sean laughed at the food for the gods comment, although he really didn't know why. Lately though, he was excusing every strange experience to Geb and that very, very strange experience with Samuel and the scorpion men; he still had the scar on his cheek to remind himself of that night, even though it was fading. He had done a bit of research to ease his mind about the god that was apparently sharing his skin, but not enough to know everything about gods and the Egyptian culture, therefore he didn't know that alcohol was a vital part to it.

"Something like past lives, yeah. I mean, I believe in reincarnation, always have, but I've never experienced it, but I feel like I know you, it's this nagging feeling. Anyway, I've probably freaked you out, let's just drink."

"Know me?" Victor mused. Sean seemed very open about his feelings and thoughts and Victor kind of liked that. People - especially near strangers - weren't often very upfront with their thoughts. Even people who had spent months and years together kept secrets from one another. But Sean seemed, for the most part, without pretense. It was... refreshing.

"I guess I can relate a bit, to that kind of a feeling." With a chuckle, Victor nodded. "But, yeah, let's get to the drinking. Philosophy always settles better on alcohol. I've got the first round, but I leave it up to you to pick it. I trust your judgement."

"To the drinking!" Sean hated to be boring, but he really enjoyed his beer and while he drank liquor, didn't prefer it. He looked over the beer menu for a moment or two before settling on Belhaven, a Scottish beer whose only negative was that it was served in a clear bottle (too reminiscent of Corona for his liking). When the bartender handed them the beer, Sean clinked his glass with Victor's. "To new friendships."

"To new friendships. And drinking." Victor cheered in agreement. Taking a long sip of the beer, he nodded. "Mm. Good choice." He took another drink and sighed lightly.

"This place is pretty nice." He would have to tell Vanessa that he'd been here, after all, even if it would tick her off that he'd come without her. He somehow doubted it would, though. "I guess I could get use to this place. Pax, I mean, and the town in general. It's really my first time moving to a completely different place, but it's been less stressful than I thought." Less stressful, more weird. He added silently to himself. And once again, he noted that he was just volunteering information about himself to Sean. Weird... yeah.

"You can never go wrong with beer." That reminded him of an Irish drinking song, and he wondered as he looked around the room, if Muldoons ever played it. He figured that it was a safe bet they did.

"Yeah, you're right, this whole town is pretty nice in general, but especially Pax, and so affordable, I'd never be able to afford an apartment on the beach in San Francisco! I'm glad it hasn't been stressful for you."

"That's for sure," Victor agreed. While he had looked at some other locations, Pax just seemed like it was the best fit. Almost perfect. Almost too good to be true, even. And it still felt that way, somewhat; with all the interesting character's he'd met and the oddities they brought out in him. But, it was, for better or worse, his home now.

Taking another swig of the beer, Victor leaned back in his chair a bit, watching Sean a moment before deciding to broach the subject the younger man had edged towards earlier. "So... Past lives. Is that a part of your whole yoga, meditation, Buddhist vegetarianism lifestyle?" Victor didn't want to sound like he was judging Sean. People had the right to follow whatever beliefs they wanted, as long as it wasn't hurting anyone else. And he was pretty sure that yoga never hurt anyone. "It sounded like you've given it some serious thought, is what I mean."

"It does fit with the Buddhism, yes actually. I've always believed in past lives, karma, and all of that." It wasn't normally a topic he minded talking about, but lately, with the whole Geb and Samuel scorpion man fight, Sean didn't know WHAT to believe, and he suddenly didn't want to talk about it, not in detail anyway. "I'm a vegetarian though for a few different reasons." How to change the topic. Sean took a long drink from his beer, setting the now half empty glass down

"Past lives and karma, huh..." Victor mused. It did seem a little crazy, at least to him, but he couldn't say that it wasn't intriguing. The idea that what you did in this life not only affected the way you would live now, but how your lives after this one would be... it was a strange concept. Victor wasn't sure if they way he'd lived his life would merit anything good if he had another one or not. Not that he'd committed any atrocious crimes, but, if he believed his father's great ambitions for him, then he had been sorely lacking.

"I tried vegetarianism once. In college." He grinned a little, letting the slightly lighter topic bring him away from thinking about how he had probably failed his father. "For a week. I guess I'm just a carnivore at heart."
