Going to a Dead Man's Party, Pt 1
Who: EVERYONE.
What: CASKET’s 16th Annual Halloween Party!!!
Where: CASKET
When: October 30th, starting at 7 pm sharp! This thread is getting posted early so everyone can get a head start on the festivities, since this weekend will undoubtedly be busy.
Warnings: Anything can happen.
Notes: All right, boils and ghouls, this is how things will go down.

Upon arriving at CASKET, for two hours everyone will remain in their mortal forms. Drink, discuss, have a good time. Please label your thread with the location of your character - At The Bar, On The Dance Floor, Lounge Area, On Stage Singing My Drunk Little Heart Out, In The Bathroom Puking My Guts Out, whatever strikes your fancy.

Let’s have everyone be nice and courteous: please ask before entering a thread in which there are already two people, unless of course you already have it planned that way.

At 9pm sharp, the deities will begin to take over their mortal shells, though not entirely; only certain aspects will show through, whether it be appearance, powers, or whatever. No full transformations. In this thread, you don’t have to worry about the deities just yet - I will post a second thread for that part of the night.

Have at!

Waiting for an invitation to arrive...goin' to a party where no one's still alive...

CASKET was done up with bells - every inch of the club was redecorated for the main event of the year. Though Julian professed to like no holiday above another, Halloween had always held a special place in his heart. Even if, in modern times, it was meant for those of a younger age, that didn’t mean those of a younger spirit couldn’t join in on the festivities as well! And he strove to provide the most elaborate environment possible for everyone to get their freak on. The addition of Pax patrons was a nice touch, or so he thought - with how lucrative his neighbors had been thus far, who knew what could happen next?

Red lights were exchanged for ultraviolet, hoping to pick out and showcase ghoulish specters in their best light. Every bartender was done up in the best make-up money could buy, elaborate skulls painted on their faces and dressed to match with bones detailing arms and rib cages. The stage area was covered in a thick, ground creeping fog, The Crypt Keeper Five’s instruments already set up and ready to take center stage once the karaoke was done for the evening. Multicolored string lights of skulls were hung from the rafters, adding a festive air to the space amidst the spiderwebs and other macabre decorations. Julian was surveying his work, his own face done up in a friendly looking sugar skull, skeletal gloves covering his fingers while a suit made him seem rather dashing despite his dead demeanor.

The club was already brimming with costume guests, ranging from the sexy to the obscene; as long as no one toted a fake weapon, anything was welcome. Lingering by the bar, he watched the entrance to see who might show up first - and to see if a certain wife was going to make an appearance. His mind lingered for the barest of moments over what would be clinging to those curves, but Julian quickly wiped his mind clean of those thoughts. Undoubtedly she’d only be here to cause trouble, nothing more. Instead, he ordered a Blue Voodoo Doll, which a skeletal Yvette handed to him with a smile. With his potentially most loyal ally manning the bar, Julian was ready for whatever this evening might bring; his lips curved into a smile as Oingo Boingo’s No One Lives Forever blared out over the sound system.

If Vanessa had been drinking, she would've spit out her drink right then and there at Idris's comments and not because she was shocked, for some reason Idris's little jabs didn't surprise her in the least, but instead because of how amused she was, poor Victor. She always felt strange around him, uncomfortable yet comfortable at the same time. It was a very different feeling, almost one of jealousy somehow as well. She hadn't been able to understand the feeling before, but that was it, she felt jealous of Victor somehow, which made NO sense. "Now now, let's just drink boys." Vanessa lined the shots in front of them and licked the back of her hand, sprinkling the salt on it. However without warning, she reached for Idris's hand, licked it, sprinkled salt on it, licked it again and took her shot, quickly placing the lime in her mouth as she put her own salted hand up to Idris's mouth. To know Idris was interested in someone eased her mind, she knew where she stood now, so why was she still doing body shots off of Idris's hand, it was inappropriate, yet it didn't seem that strange.

Victor blinked at Idris' comments. He could feel the slow tingle of aggravation tickle at the base of his spine. It took him slightly by surprise, as he hadn't had a drop to drink as of yet, and usually was a pretty level headed guy.

But this guy... This guy was something else. Victor wasn't sure what it was, exactly, but something about this Idris' smile was just... off-putting. Wrong, even.

Still, he shrugged his shoulders, meeting the other man's gaze with a look that might not be taken completely in jest either. He picked up his shot. No need to get nasty. There had to be something redeeming about this man, or else maybe he had read Vanessa wrong from the start. But she seemed... trustworthy to Victor. Even as she licked the man's hand. Maybe they had already had quite a lot to drink.

Victor threw his shot back, sans salt or lime before waving to the bartender for another round. He looked at Idris, something in his stomach twisting a little. Like the feeling one gets when they are slowly creeping up the rails of a roller coaster ride. You know the drop is coming. For better or for worse. It was... oddly exciting. "Well, looks like I have some catching up to do before I'm at your level. Please, another toast. I liked your last one very much."

He mirrored Vanessa's actions, though he didn't follow his shot with a touch of lime. Idris supposed she was maybe a little drunker than he, but given how bold she'd been in the past, he wasn't going to hold it against her nor assume anything else so quickly. He shot her a pointed look before his attention shifted to Victor once more, who either disapproved of their actions--was this Victor more to Vanessa than just a friend?--or simply needed more to drink. Perhaps both.

Idris openly laughed at Victor's comment, though the look he'd received from the newcomer didn't go entirely unnoticed, cloudy mind or no. Surely Victor was more than a completely stoic individual. It hardly seemed right that someone of Vanessa's particular brand of spunk would spend time with a stiff like him.

"So, you're a flatterer, Vic? That must be why Vanessa keeps you around, yeah? I can call you Vic, right? We're all friends here." He smiled, pleased with his statement, no matter how ludicrous the rational, sober part of his mind said it was to try picking a fight with Victor. Hell, he didn't even really know the man, and this wasn't how Idris preferred to make a first impression. New drinks placed in front of them, Idris held his shot glass up, mockingly giving it a study before shifting his gaze back to his companions.

"Well, then. Let's have a toast to stone-faced warriors from the Old West, here to protect the helpless fair ladies of the kingdom!" Idris downed his shot straight, the glass placed back on the counter making an audible clink. It might have been a challenge. "What do you do for a living, Vic? You another fellow Paxian?"

The liquor he'd consumed tonight had warmed his system, leading him to consider removing his mask. But it'd hardly be fun to disrobe, especially when he'd found a proper adversary for his costumed self--at least, outfit-wise. It still remained to be seen if there was any fight in Victor, or if he preferred to wear a poker face at all times, no matter the situation.

Victor let a small chuckle leave him, even if it was a little tense. This Idris character... well, he was just that. A character. Although the feeling hadn't subsided - that nagging, irritating feeling. It wasn't quite anger. Not yet, at least. But it was still present, and Victor wasn't quite sure what was causing it. The lights, maybe? The loud music? Or maybe the company. It could have been a number of things, but frankly, at the moment "Vic" didn't have any problem on internally blaming on his new friend.

He picked up his newly filled shot glass, lifting it a little and giving Vanessa a look, though his next comment was at least partially aimed at Idris, "I try to tell the truth, whenever possible." He smiled a bit.

"Which, by the way," he lifted the glass a little more, still watching Vanessa. "Perhaps we should be toasting to the lady. You have brought us together - and you've been nothing but kind to me. Lovely, and far from helpless, I'd imagine." His smile edged into what could be a playful grin, though only just. "Thank you, Vanessa."

He knew he was more sober than either of them, and that he really should be trying to keep things more civil. But... he just couldn't help himself. Vanessa had been nothing but kind to him, though they really had only spoken once. He felt comfortable with her - oddly so, though he wouldn't actually call it attraction. She was attractive, to be sure, but, he didn't know her well enough to say whether or not he was actually attracted to her. Even though something about her made him want to be closer to her. Just how close, he couldn't tell. Though he imagined the continued consumption of alcohol would make things both more and less clear soon enough.

For the moment, though, he turned his attention back to Idris. The feeling he had with him was something less of an attraction and a bit more of an... urge. The urge to do what, however, also remained annoyingly out of grasp. He did have an idea, though...

"Me? Well, at the moment, I'm in between jobs. I did just move in to Pax, so I imagine I'll get settled and started in on a new job within the next few weeks. No rush." His half grin grew a bit, "And Vic is just fine. Though I think I preferred 'The Duke'..." And the grin slid, ever-so-slightly, into an easy smirk. "You'd make an excellent terrier, partner."

"And I love that about you Victor." Vanessa thought about the time they had met and how she had spilled her entire life story to him as if she had known him her entire life. At the time she had simply thought that she would have spilled her story like that to just about anyone, but the truth was that she had never done any such thing. Her feelings towards Idris and Victor were all too confusing, and she was grateful for the alcohol in her system that numbed them quite a bit. She reach over and patted Victor on the back. "Do you want to easily catch up, because I can make that happen." She wrapped an arm around Victor suddenly, squeezing him tightly and quickly letting him go. Well that was odd...

"Bartender, my friend over here needs to catch up, so let's get him a shot of wild turkey and a chocolate cake shot as a chaser."

There passed a mutual feeling of near affection and understanding between Vanessa and Victor, and Idris arched his brows accordingly in curiosity--it was not that it bothered him, for surely it didn't, but nonetheless, he couldn't help wondering how they'd originally met. Given that Victor was from Pax, it might've been there, but who knew? It was another mystery that the much calmer (and sober, for that matter) man hadn't yet offered up for Idris' inspection.

It wasn't fair that Vanessa had to sit in the middle of them as if she was a mediator of sorts, but she didn't seem to mind. Rather, she was enjoying herself, drunk or not. Let it be said, at the very least, this evening was starting off very pleasantly. It could only get better.

Idris smirked in return to Victor's comment, amused that he finally seemed to be playing along with his light banter, the briefest of provocative hints leading towards a final confrontation. Suppose the bar wasn't big enough for the two of them. He laughed at that thought, drunk as he was.

"Get him something else, too, Vanessa. Don't let him sit there making jokes on the sly without participating in the real fun. That's not fair of him." Idris gave Victor a sidelong glance before continuing. "On second thought, I don't think you're worthy enough to be called 'The Duke.' What heroic acts have you done lately?" He nudged Vanessa gently with his shoulder. "How'd you two meet, anyway? Don't tell me sheriff over there saved you from bandits at Pax."

Why Idris was suddenly so concerned with this recently introduced neighbor of his he didn't know, and he didn't think that even if he were in his right mind he'd be able to explain why. It felt right to jab at Victor, to try and stir things up, the same as it felt right to flirt with Vanessa, to lead her along as it suited his needs. This breed of arrogance was not entirely Idris', truthfully. But for now, he'd blame it on the tequila.

Victor found Vanessa's arms around him suddenly, albeit briefly, and for some reason, it made him chuckle, grin settling a bit more solidly along his lips. However, the thought of whiskey followed by god knows what was in a chocolate cake shot made his nose wrinkle a bit.

"Trying to catch me up, or trying to kill me?" He chuckled at the woman, giving he a small nudge of his own. Nothing too over-friendly, but... She had, technically gone there first, with the hug. And it was still somehow, oddly, comfortable.

At Idris' comments, he snorted lightly. While he knew Vanessa wasn't trying to hurt him with the sudden increase in liquor consumption, he somehow wouldn't put it past the other man to. Not that he actually minded, at the moment. This impromptu battle of wits was actually entertaining. And while he wasn't the kind of person to try and pick fights of any kind - especially with complete strangers - it seemed almost... appropriate with Idris as his sparring partner.

As his new "friend" kept waxing on about heroics however, something deeper twisted in Victor's gut. Something deeper than the club, or the liquor and more to do with fire and falling. He closed his eyes for a moment, grin falling away. "Don't worry. I'm no hero."

"I'm only trying to catch you up Victor dear, it can't be any fun to be around two drunkards when you're sober, but I should warn you, Idris is pretty much the only other person who can drink as much as me and still be able to walk in a straight line, we've had more than you think we've had. When you're ready for another shot, you let me know and I'll order you something good." Vanessa didn't know about Victor's past, but she noticed a change in his expression, and she instinctively changed the topic to an unanswered question.

"I've actually only met Victor once. He stopped by my apartment to say hello and meet after an introduction in the Pax forum. Of course when he knocked I was in ridiculous pajamas and huge fuzzy purple slippers."

"Did I hit a sore spot, Vic?" Idris murmured--or rather, it would've been a murmur had he not one too many shots under his belt. (And if that pushing feeling in the back of his mind would be quiet, and quit urging him to speak out of turn.) As it stood, Vanessa would be able to clearly hear the comment, as would Victor. "Sorry about that, pardner," he amended, but the sarcasm in his tone was obvious.

Vanessa was boasting of his talents for drinking people under the bar, but Idris knew he ought to slow down. True, he could handle his liquor well enough, but if he wasn't careful, he'd end up in the bathroom instead of walking crookedly out of CASKET once the evening was finished. But if Victor was going to continue drinking, well. The competitive urge he felt to match the other--despite the obvious gain he had on Victor--was childish, but nonetheless entertaining.

His attention shifted to Vanessa, and he barely repressed a laugh.

"Did you have a slumber party?" Idris asked in the same manner Vanessa had earlier questioned him about the redhead he'd met at Pax. "Come on, don't leave any details out--the carpets matching the drapes, remember? How come I haven't seen your slippers yet?"

The look Victor shot Idris after his first rebuttal was... in a word - unkind. It was probably a bit more than unkind, but Vanessa's change of topic (for his benefit, he guessed) kept him from saying something he would probably have regretted later. Well, maybe regretted.

He forced a small smile for her. "Well, I don't know how I'll measure up to you two seasoned drinkers, but I'll do my best." Victor knew he could hold his liquor - and he could only assume that both Idris and Vanessa could too. He didn't really want to start that kind of competition, but... to be completely honest, he could already tell that he would take great satisfaction in getting the other man to drink himself sick, if possible.

His smile grew a touch more genuine at Vanessa's admittance. It was true - they had only spoken once. But he couldn't help but feel that they already knew one another better than that. Some people just had that effect, of course, but this also seemed to be more than just charisma. He wouldn't complain, especially at the moment. He felt like Vanessa was an ally, and a good one at that. Idris... not so much.

"Ah, yes," he quipped, glancing from Vanessa to Idris, then back to Vanessa, expression playful. "We did... bond, over those lovely purple slippers. I was quite fond of them, truthfully." His comments could easily be taken as suggestive, he remembered (who wouldn't) those slippers and the first sight of Vanessa almost as one might remember seeing a dear friend. Or a family member, almost. The thought made him smile all the more. It was strange, and he knew that it was, but at the moment, he didn't want to put it into introspection. Maybe it was the alcohol.

Victor had no real reason to continue to play at this baiting game the other had somehow gotten him into, but at the same time... he wanted to win it. He tilted his head a bit, focus shifting back to Idris. "Why, have you not had the honor of the fuzzy slippers yet, partner? And it seemed like you two were so close..."

He didn't want to offend Vanessa, but something told him that she could handle it. Besides, Idris had started it, technically. Victor looked back to the lady between them. "I did appreciate the fuzzy slippers.. but I would be remiss if I didn't say that you look amazing this spooky eve." Again, the compliment could be mistaken for being more flirtatious than he had meant, but he chuckled anyhow. "There has to be some kind of fuzzy... purple... shot concoction that we could enjoy in honor of the slippers, right?"

Vanessa laughed and elbowed Idris as he threw her own dirty question right back at her. It served her right for asking that to begin with, especially to a man like Idris. The truth was that she absolutely couldn't imagine herself sleeping with Victor, the thought was so foreign and strange and it really felt as if she was trying to imagine herself having slept with a cousin or something equally as strange. This odd feeling made her feel extremely strange because after all, Victor was a very good looking man, there was something noble and strong about him, despite his protests, but maybe it was just his costume. "Thank you for the compliment Victor, I'd be lying if I said I didn't spend a lot of time on myself tonight, so it's nice to have it be appreciated." To celebrate the slippers, Vanessa ordered them all purple hooter shots, which was vodka, chambord, and sprite. They came out purple and bubbly, the closest thing she could think of to a fuzzy purple concoction.

"And Idris has seen me in my pajamas as well, thanks to a late night smoke detector."

"By all means, Sheriff--do your best. Or your worst." Idris grinned, but there was more than a hint of malice in his expression; had he seen his reflection in a mirror at that very moment, it would've been unrecognizable as his own--even had he removed his costume mask. There was no mistaking the undercurrent of tension in their small party's corner of the bar, and had Vanessa not been sitting inbetween him and Victor, there was no telling what might have happened. Idris knew he wasn't in his right mind from the amount of liquor he'd consumed, but there was something else constantly pushing at him, goading him along just as much as he kept picking at Victor, to see if the other man would snap.

He felt like getting up, pushing away from the bar, and shoving (or stumbling) his way through the crowd and out of CASKET, to see if that would help lessen any the hushed urgings he kept hearing, feeling, in the core of his being. (Or was it really his being, he asked himself for not the first time tonight.) Shaking his head slightly, as if to clear his mind of these strange thoughts that he still insisted were caused by drunkeness, Idris brought himself back into the conversation between his two companions.

Or forced, rather. Forced was a much nicer way to put it.

"I didn't take you for the kind of girl that let any man into her slippers. Could've told me that from the start, would've saved me a lot of heartache." Idris said brazenly to Vanessa, leaning towards her in a conspiratorial fashion, the darker undertones to his words as clear as day. He gave her a pointed look, almost as if there had been a far different relationship of sorts between the two of them. His eyes shifted to Victor, and he barely checked the sarcasm which coated his words. "You have no idea how close we are, Sheriff, and maybe that's for the best. It'd be a shame for a law abiding man like yourself to have committed such a crime. A stain on your perfect record."

Idris downed the shot placed in front of him, barely tasting the drink; there was a distinct feeling of bitterness, jealousy, that had curled up rather comfortably in the pit of his stomach, as if Victor had hit one of his sore spots. Ultimately it made no sense, and he did his best to shake off his irksome mood. The excited and cheerful babble of the crowd seemed to bring him back to reality, gave him something else to fixate upon instead of the displaced thoughts which collided with one another in his mind. Vanessa mentioning her smoke detector helped somewhat, too. When he spoke to her again, his tone was far more amicable than it'd previously been.

"I remember that, yeah. Woke me up from a dead sleep and I had to change the batteries. Should've been there, Vic. You would've gotten quite an eyeful--maybe more than just her slippers." He winked at the other man, as if to show he was no longer agitated about the previous banter that had gone on between him and Vanessa, the implications put forward by the two of them in jest.

Victor did not miss the malice lacing Idris' tone of voice. Nor did he miss the tinge of... was that jealousy, that eked its way in to the other man's demeanor as well. What the hell was going on?

It was more than a mystery to Victor, how this man reacted to him. And moreover, how Idris also seemed to affect him. Hell, Vanessa seemed to be hitting a few tender notes in both of them as well. It was almost like they were all old friends. Or enemies. Or... something.

"I'm sure you're plenty close..." he heard himself mutter. Clearing his throat, he also picked up the next shot presented to him and downed it. It burned a bit, and (he fancied, at least) cleared his head a bit from his wayward thoughts.

"Well, we all seem to be just one happy, tipsy family round these parts." He amended, shooting Vanessa a smile. He didn't really care if he offended Idris, but for some reason, he wanted to keep Vanessa out of the more violent insults that may be exchanged between he and the other. "I guess neither of us can be too bad..." he continued, letting the continued intake of alcohol fuel his jocular exterior, "If Miss Vanessa took us in, I mean."

His gaze rolled back to Idris, growing a hint harder again. He just couldn't seem to help it. "Well. What should we toast to next?"
