"Why, are you offering to come along?" The question was more of a light tease than an actual invitation. Max had no intention of taking anyone along with him this time (though if he thought long and hard about it, it was all Fee's doing that had gotten them out of the situation to begin with - and yet it had been her that had gotten them into it as well) and figured that one person would have an easier time of slipping in and out. That was, if the door could even be found.
He stopped by the edge of the dining area, turning to look back at his golfing companion. She looked intensely worried, the emotion painted on her face clearly, and Max felt a pang of guilt because he knew that he had probably put it there. Why she should be so concerned with his well being was beyond him, but at the same time spoke lengths of her character. He lifted a hand as though he were going to touch her shoulder, but then let it fall before the action was completed.
"Look, I...if I do go, I mean, I'll take somebody with. Somebody big and beefy, like Sam, maybe. That way if anyone tries to sneak up on me, I'd have a muscle man, yah know?" Max grinned at the thought, though he doubted that Sam would be so agreeable toward the idea of playing bodyguard to a kid with aspirations of being a detective slash spy. But he hoped the thought would at least crack a smile on Lucy's face, if not reassure her.
