His steps slowed as they entered the lobby, then halted. A hand scrubbed thoughtfully at the stubble on his chin from the long day behind him. Slowly, Elias turned and gave Dov a long, searching look. The kid looked harmless enough. And Elias wanted to help him. And, if he were to be believed, he was related to Charlie -- and that meant something, too.

But Elias was ignoring Dov's continued statement that Charlie really didn't want to see him. And then did it not become his responsibility not to bring him to Charlie again, when she was apparently very clear about what she wanted with Dov (which was to say, nothing)?

"Before we go farther," he finally said, "Tell me exactly what happened between you two."

He gestured toward the sitting area in the lobby. There was as good a place as any.
