While Vanessa was off to hunt down some sort of ladder or another, Idris opened the water bottle she'd gotten for him and took a good swig of it, replacing the cap and setting it back down on the counter. It wouldn't do to drink all of it right now and have his sleep interrupted a second time before he was supposed to actually start his day. Vanessa returned almost before he knew it, unfolding a small step stool for his usage. "Great; that'll definitely work," he murmured as she finished her task. The crusade to end the beeping was nearly complete.
He shrugged when Vanessa apologized, giving her a half-smile. "This sort of thing happens now and then. Unless you set it off as an excuse to see me again, but I'd rather we met in...quieter circumstances." Idris grinned, then turned his attention to the noisy problem. It was time for this thing to shut the hell up already. Stepping upon the stool, he reached up and pulled at the loud device, resulting in it coming completely off the bracket. Idris stepped down from his perch and turned the alarm over in his hands, looking and finding the battery compartment door easily in the kitchen lighting.
"One more favor. You have a screwdriver? This thing's not going to stop unless we open it up to see what's inside."
