"Yeah, but I never thought it'd be this soon." Idris shot a cheeky grin at Vanessa before looking up at the smoke detector and deciding on his course of action. It was placed rather high on the ceiling, adjacent to the wall above the stove. Idris was not the tallest of men, but he certainly wasn't the shortest, either. Overall it would be far easier to take the cover off the smoke detector at a more level angle, and then they could replace the batteries--or if it was only an issue of them being loose, adjust the damned things accordingly. "Do you have a foot ladder," he started to ask, looking back to Vanessa.
The sight that met his eyes was something best saved for another time and place, though regardless of this, Idris couldn't help but let his gaze linger a few seconds longer than necessary. It certainly didn't hurt anything and he wasn't going to complain about the view, despite it being covered by cheerful yellow ducklings.
"Water's fine," he replied. Idris smirked impulsively to himself before Vanessa turned around, the ghost of it remaining as her cheeks flushed, hands modestly attending to her shorts. "Now, about that foot ladder, before the beeping drives us both insane."
