Adam felt a subtle kind of sting at her words, feeling chastised, somehow, though he knew that was far from her likely intent. It was difficult, though, for him to put aside the knowledge that it was his own doing that had interrupted her errand-running, and perhaps rendered an entire store off bounds for her future perusal. He did not in the slightest get the impression she regretted what had happened, but that did not stop this line of thought. Luckily she moved the conversation neatly along, bringing up a new topic with which he could readily identify.
"Then we're both nerds," he said, chuckling softly. "This is one of the best times of day to come to the beach, for that very reason." He glanced down to his own arms, where vibrant tattoos covered pale flesh. "Besides, too much sun means way more work to keep these up, and I like them how they are."
