Who: OPEN
What: Pax Letale Halloween Bash 2010!
Where: The Empty Grave
When: 6:30-9 p.m.
Warnings: Likely any and all. Enter at your own risk.
Notes: This is the party post for all Pax residents and guests in attendance, right up to the moment of transformation. Use your subject line to denote your character's location (i.e. 'By the door,' 'at the bar,' 'on the dance floor,' 'in a coat closet.')

The air in Pax Letale crackled with possibility all day Sunday. All week, excited chatter had filled the hallway and the forums; costumes had been carried in and out; speculation on what the party would entail were whispered. By Sunday, the energy surrounding the event held so much promise that it hardly seemed like just a Halloween party anymore; it was something more, and that sense was nearly kinetic.

The main ballroom in the haunted mansion that was The Empty Grave was expansive, but guests had already begun to arrive. When they entered, they found lush opulence withered and faded; grandeur, but with an eerie pall over it. It was perfect for Halloween - dark, ghostly, with a twisted Victorian edge to it. The bar was fully stocked, trays of h'ors d'oeuvres passed around and more substantial fare offered on ornate platters along one wall. A DJ was already spinning a mix of music that somehow managed to fit the theme and appeal to the eclectic demographic he was serving, and attractive (if ghastly) characters added flavor to the already colorful room.

The night had begun.

"Come on, nobody's looking," he said, far too nonchalantly. Her weight and fussing didn't even register, though he was careful that she wouldn't accidentally kick another patron. For Rick, at least, the walk was over fairly quickly. The vampire bartender didn't effect much surprise - perhaps it was her job just to tolerate the strange things that guests did night-to-night.

Rick lifted her off his shoulder and set her down on a bar stool. He set his hands on his holsters and smiled down at Kami. "Better, princess?"

Her answer was the most heart-breakingly perfect pout of all time. Helen of Troy may have launched ships with her face but Kamillah Boisvert could sink them with her full-mouthed sadness. She held the look just long enough for Rick's smile to twitch a bit, a bit of unease coming into his eyes.

Then Kami broke into giggles and kicked one booted foot out to tap his shin gently. "You are such a jerk," she accused, expression relaxing into a far more familiar smile. "Did someone pay you to do that? Seriously, Rick. What's under this skirt is invitation only!"

The bartender made a noise, a laugh disguised as a cough, and Kami turned a conspiratorial smile on her. "Men, huh?" she asked lightly. "May I have a Screaming Orgasm, please?" Then she turned her attention back to Rick, head cocked to one side. "So... You were saying? Apology?"

Rick pressed his knuckles against his lips, trying not to sputter in surprise.

"Yeah, I'm sorry," he conceded, rather quickly. His knuckles also stopped him from laughing again. "I'm sorry that I didn't do it until after you started drinking."

He smiled at the bartender, then Kami, probably thinking an extension of his charm would instantly get both ladies back in good moods. "If you got Guinness on tap, I'll take that, please. What the hell did did you order, Kami?"

"A Screaming Orgasm." Kami's face and tone were impossibly sweet and even. She gave a practiced little flutter of her eyelashes. All was clearly forgiven with the magic words, even if he was nearly laughing when he said them. "Vodka, Bailey's, and Kahlua." She looked sideways in time to see the delicate cocktail glass slide across the bar towards her. With a wink, she picked it up and sipped. "Mmmm," she cooed. "It's delicious."

Then she lowered the glass back to the bar and licked her lips absently to clear away trace alcohol. "So, Rick, I'd say we win the most ironic costumes award, huh?" She laughed, properly cheerful again. "What made you decide to suit up all John Wayne?"

"I don't know what your nights are filled with," Rick said, eyeing her unusually named drink again, "but I sometimes leave AMC marathons on at night. All that John Wayne gets to your head after a while." He got his beer, tipped the bartender enough for both himself and Kami. "Plus, I had half the stuff for it lying around anyways, like these boots. What about my little Indian in the Cupboard, what got you going on that?"

"Honestly? I don't know." Kami hitched herself up onto the stool behind her with absent ease, one heel hooking on a rung to provide a little extra stability. She settled one elbow on the bar beside them and held her drink easily in that hand; her other hand was busy making a vague gesture to illustrate the impossibility of explaining her impulse. "It's not my usual kind of thing and, if you really think about it, it's kind of... Well, just a little cliche and tasteless." She glanced down at her costume and smoothed her free hand down over the soft, fringed skirt. At least it was a better quality fabric than some of the other pieces in the store. That still really didn't excuse the trite and sultry interpretation, she supposed. Memories of her high school years made her conscience twinge a bit and she shook her head.

"You know," Kami began again carefully, "I really, really don't know. I saw it on the rack next to an adorable little fairy costume and, next thing I knew, it was in my hand. Like something wanted me to buy it." She shrugged, dispelling the same feeling that had her looking at other accessories that she normally would shy away from. Then she smiled. "But I look crazy-cute, don't I?" she asked in the voice of a woman quite aware that her assets could stop a red-blooded straight man at ten paces, cheerfully unapologetic and confident.
