Easy Like Sunday Morning
Who: Mirza and Kami
What: Even exotic dancers and shop wenches have to have a day off sometimes.
Where: Starting in the lobby, on to Kami's apartment.
When: 10/24/10
Warnings: None at the moment.

With one ear-bud in and her iPod treating her to some Lady Gaga remixes, Kami hummed along cheerfully as she managed to bump open Pax's door with a well-regulated hip bump. The jolt forced her to scramble for a second to re-establish control over the multiple bags slung over her wrists and cradled in her arms but, in the end, she was triumphant. She tried not to think how she would manage to get her keys out and her apartment door open. Either she would sprout another arm, use her mouth, or do the mature thing and set something down. It didn't matter which. It was a gorgeous Sunday, just before noon, sun still shining despite a few threatening clouds, and Vons' had a sale on chocolate chips. There was also a Halloween party right around the corner and her birthday. What more could a girl ask for?

Speaking of parties, she thought, she should double-check the costume hanging in her closet. She knew it was the right size, technically, but you never could tell in the bag with off-the-rack things. As much as she wanted short and sassy, there was such a thing as too short and sassy. No need to invite the world to view the good china, right?

As she passed the bank of mailboxes, though, Kami slowed as she tried to remember if she had picked up her mail the previous day or not. She wrinkled her nose in thought, pretty mouth screwing up in concentration. Absently, she shifted her weight to one foot to better balance her bags out as she paused. She tapped the other on the floor softly, patent-leather pump making faint clicks.

"Mm, I'm a very simple creature," he agreed, grinning against her skin. What? He was male. How were those things not completely linked with his general maleness? They were like the very essences necessary for his being.

Mirza made a little sound at her dislodging movement - not one of disappointment since he was still very close to her body but of another nature. Really, she was just mean to him. "Oh no, I'm a miserable failure when it comes to cooking," Mirza admitted, voice perhaps a little huskier than usual which was hard to manage when he spoke in a whispery sort of way anyhow. "I'm like a cat. I have to be underfoot," Mirza grinned, lifting a hand to move her gorgeous hair just slightly out of the way so he could kiss the back of her neck. He was not one to give up.

Another shiver and Kami sighed. "I know cats," she murmured. "You can't train them to do anything. Ever." Reaching back blindly, her fingers found Mirza's slim hip and patted. Then she attempted to dig a few tickles into his ribs as she side-stepped and ducked. Giggling, she reached again for her cooking implements. "Are you as completely un-trainable?" she asked in a more normal voice as she found a suitable knife and laid out the peppers on the cutting board.

"Mm-hmm," he agreed about cats. Although he had heard of cats doing tricks, surely they only did them when they wanted to. Cats were fickle like that. But his attempts at being seductive were totally ruined when she tickled him and he shrieked in a very girlish way and shot back. "Oh, mostly," Mirza noted with dark eyes and a sullen tone, "But I know better than to bother a girl with a knife in her hands."

"It's just until I can get you fed, Mirza," she answered gently. "Then I swear I'm all ears again. Promise." Kami offered him a warm, brief smile over her shoulder before she turned back to the counter and began portioning out her various ingredients. A bit of oil went into the heating pan and then she dropped the diced chicken in with a resulting sizzle. Then she gave her hands a quick scrub before neatly coring and slicing the pepper. The entire process took less than seven minutes, just enough time for Mirza to start fidgeting under his self-imposed retreat.

Suddenly, Kami tossed the peppers into the pan and turned to him. She had a sliver of red pepper in each hand. "I'm better when I don't have to hurry," she explained. "Better when I'm not distracted." One of the pieces went into her mouth and she chewed idly. Then, with an impish grin, she held out the other piece between finger and thumb in offering to Mirza, leaning into the motion as if to better coax him. "I'm sorry. Forgive me?"

He made a bit of a sound rather like a petulant child and simply watched. Really, he was awful when he wasn't getting the attention he wanted but he smiled when she did anyhow. Quietly, he watched her cook and she was so right that he started to fidget, playing with the waist band of his pants and shifting on his feet.

But then Kami was facing him again, paying attention and he perked right up like he hadn't been pouting this whole time. He didn't know what she was apologizing for but he stepped forward towards her and the offered pepper. Arching an eyebrow, Mirza put a hand on her wrist and took the sliver of pepper from her fingers with his mouth. He settled in beside her, chewing on the pepper but still holding onto her wrist and watching her. After swallowing, he said, "Sorry. I'm a bit of an attention whore. I can't help it."

Her smile reflected only amusement and understanding. She allowed him to continue holding her wrist, just barely moving enough to turn them both to face the stove again so she could keep an eye on things. Leaning slightly into him, Kami offered, "You're a performer. We're all like that."

Then she reached out with her free hand to pick up a spatula and moved the chicken about in the pan idly, stirring to cook everything thoroughly. "Someone back in college decided to tell me it was all a pathological drive for those in the entertainment industry but," she laughed and shifted her trapped hand so their fingers were tangled, "she was an abnormal psych major. Can't say I'd trust her further than I could throw her. Which wouldn't be far because I'm small and, well, she wasn't."

Kami looked at Mirza sidelong before giving the chicken another stir, smile hovering at her lips. "What do you think, Mirza?" she asked playfully. "Are we beyond help? Are we doomed to be absolute attention whores forever?"

Mirza put his other arm around her as she leaned, pulling her close to his body. What? He couldn't help it. She was a very beautiful woman and he wanted to be touching her. A lot. More than touching her but damn she was stubborn.

He was surprised when she tangled their fingers together and he gently squeezed her hand, listening like the good little boy he was trying to be. So hard, he was trying! "We are completely beyond help," he answered her honestly, "Utterly doomed. But it's not like it's a bad thing. I've had some great times with it. Bad ones too but more good ones."

Grinning, he leaned in to kiss her shoulder lightly, "Like right now. This is a good one. It's a very strange one but a good one." He was not going to explain how it was strange unless she asked. Such complicated thoughts were bouncing through his head.

"Strange?" Kami gave him another puzzled sideways glance, one dark eyebrow lifted in question. She stirred the chicken again but her motions were careful and he was able to stay cuddled up to her side. "I guess that's okay so long as it's still good." She giggled softly and managed to tilt her head just enough to rest hers against his shoulder for a moment before straightening again. Setting down the spatula, she reached for a jar of sauce. "If it ever gets not good, though, tell me. Okay? I'd hate to have met you, invited you up, and then... Hm, freaked you out or something. I'm gentle as a lamb, really. Honest." She grinned. "Never even bite unless by special request."

Suddenly, she offered him the jar and the new smile was far too sweet. "Care to help me, hon?"

"I just rather imagine that this is what a couple who is quite comfortable with each other and has been together a long while might act like... I wouldn't know honestly. I've not done much dating." But a whole lot of sex was there. God, he was a whore. He didn't even know what a healthy relationship was. That was a somewhat depressing thought. But any sign of displeasure at this realization was kept to himself. "Have I at all seemed freakable yet? And please... Do bite. I like it." What? He was just being honest.

It was clear he was surprised when she offered him the jar. Mirza gave her a skeptical look, pretty sure she could damn well open it herself if she just unwound their fingers. With a little sigh, he let go of her hand and took the jar, twisting the lid off with little effort. "I'm quite certain you're not so incapable as to be unable to open a jar." Setting the lid on the counter, he offered the jar back to Kami.

His reward was a brilliant grin as she accepted the jar. "Of course I am," Kami agreed without shame or hesitation. "I just like the help and, well..." She gave a little shrug before delivering a teasing hip bump and stepping away long enough to pour the sauce over the chicken and peppers, turning the flame down to simmer. Then she set the jar down and returned to his side. Taking his hand again, she led him over to one of the stools at the kitchen's eat-in bar and pulled it out for him.

"I don't know, really," she admitted with a giggle. Blessedly, it seems she was going to let his confusion and admission go gracefully. "Here. Sit." Her fingertips pressed gently at his bare chest. "Make yourself comfortable and I'll get the wine out and finish up here." Spinning away, Kami headed for her refrigerator again. "Weird as it is, I kind of like being watched in here."

Mirza scratched his forehead, shaking his head a little as well. This woman was insane. Surely. There was nothing about her at all sane and she was just a horrible, giant tease. So why was he still here? Oh right, free food and he liked teases apparently. He was just torturing himself. He followed her over to the stool, still shaking his head. Oh what to do with Kami...

He sort of flopped onto the stool - or it seemed like a flop but really he just sat. Just something about the movement made it seem more clumsy than it actually was and very much on purpose. "Hurray, wine!" Mirza was genuinely excited about alcohol okay? "Yeah, I bet you like being watched," he said without thinking then had to press his lips together so he didn't laugh. And he would make no apologies. "Do you get watched often or am I a very special case?"

"Would you believe me if I said both?" Kami shot him a grin full of pure mischief over her shoulder. Retrieving the bottle, she made a stop to grab two glasses and a corkscrew. "I'm a performer," she explained. "You know how it is." She set the glasses on the bar at Mirza's elbow before settling herself to attack the wine's cork. Half-distracted now, she continued vaguely, "It starts to feel natural. Except when it's exciting. Sometimes it really, I don't know, makes things better."

Kami paused as she worked the cork free with a soft grunt. Then she poured each wine glass half full. She presented one to Mirza with a little bow. "But, to be honest, I'm thinking you're special, too." Her eyes sparkled with laughter. "Don't think I'm always inviting strange men up to my apartment, okay?"

Mirza snorted a little, "Maybe. Maybe not." Alright, so he was being a little snarky. He couldn't help it. "I prefer to think I'm special. The one and only," which was kind of like saying that yes, he knew exactly how it was and was showing it. Mirza made a soft sound of agreement but then, he was watched a lot and it was generally... exciting in a way. Sometimes he just wanted one person's eyes and one alone for as long as he could keep them...

He took the glass with a little nod of his head, sipping gratefully - mm. Alcohol. Hmm, maybe he had a problem. "Wouldn't dream of thinking such a thing. Besides, I'm hardly a man. I'm a lady-boy," he laughed, shaking his head a little. What, he could make fun of himself.

"Lady-boy, man, boy, whatever." Kami sipped her own wine, dark eyes warm on her guest. She gave a little wave with her free hand before reaching out to tuck a piece of his hair behind his ear. The motion was gentle and affectionate. "You're cute, Mirza, and you damn well know it," she continued, breaking into a wicked little smile. "I bet it's gotten you into all sorts of apartments if you were interested but..." She drew her hand back and tapped the side of her nose with a finger, a teasing, knowing gesture. Then she giggled. "But it's still the truth even though you're not really that strange, are you? We just haven't spent any time around each other outside that bar."

She settled her glass on the island and then turned on her heel to switch off the stove and pull the pan from the heat. Her back to him, she went on tip-toe, balancing for extra height despite her heels, to take down plates from a cupboard. "And watch all you like," she added casually. "Neither of us mind, right?"

Not waiting for an answer, Kami quickly dropped back down and neatly assembled two plates, snagging forks from another drawer. Then she returned to his side and slid the steaming, fragrant plate before him. "I hope you like it."

Mirza snickered, grinning at Kami, "More like gotten other people into my apartment. Lesson learned: never let Shae put handcuffs on you. Good God that boy is rough." While it made for an amusing story, he had been so pissed off at the time. He could not be marked. It would lose him money because it ruined whatever fantasy his audience had that maybe he was theirs, dancing only for them. "Exactly."

He pressed his lips together, hiding a grin and only allowing himself to say, "Something like that." Oh he loved to watch. And be watched. But he didn't at all mean that innocently. When his plate arrived, he made a gleeful squealing noise, "Yay food!" Really, that was all the celebrating he needed. But first, a sip of wine! Alcohol was more important.

Kami giggled herself as she slid into the other seat and picked up her fork. She propped her elbow on the island and leaned her head into the upraised hand while she watched Mirza take a deep sip of wine. A smile lingered on her full mouth, a little mysterious and dreamy. Her gaze seemed to be half-focused on the handsome young man in front of her and half somewhere else. Privately, she toyed with the idea of mentioning that she didn't find Shae at all rough... Or maybe it was just that he more than willingly let her take the reins. The memory warmed her cheeks and she hoped the blush she feared hadn't appeared. If so... Oh, well. Mirza would probably just leer.

For now, though, he had moved on to enjoy the food and Kami pulled herself back from her moment of pleasant daydreams to watch her guest eat. Satisfied that he liked her cooking, she turned her attention to her own plate. It really was so much nicer to have company, she thought. And Mirza was lovely company indeed.
