Who: Dorcas & Adam
What: Dorcas makes a delivery to a bookshop owner and runs into Adam.
Where: A bookshop
When: Sunday October 17th, Afternoonish
Warnings: tbd?

Although Dorcas was not meant to be working on the weekends, her boss had asked her to make a delivery if she was headed a certain direction. She was so she did. She had picked up the book that morning and had painstakingly made sure that it was wrapped in soft leather and placed carefully in a reinforced satchel. There would be no damage to this book at her expense, thank you. Especially since this book delivery was getting her a small bonus if successful. Of course, who was going to rob a pink haired girl with a satchel that could brain a man? (Okay, exaggeration. Whatever.)

So that was why she was standing at the counter of a particular bookshop, looking extremely awkward and clutching the bag. She was also kind of arguing with the clerk who was behind the counter. He wanted her to give him the book to give to the boss. She refused considering this was a very rare and expensive book. It should be delivered directly. He was pressing his advantage since she was stammering and kind of shrinking into herself. Damn the dominant types.

"Look, just give it to me and I'll get it to my boss," the clerk said. There was no please and his tone was overly firm like he was talking to a small child who was pissing him off but he just didn't want to smack it.

Dorcas looked like she was about to cry with frustration, "N-no, I n-need to deliver it d-directly!" She was trying so hard. It was cute.

"That's a lot to carry around on your own." His eyes flickered from her to the table and back again. Not wanting to further distress her, unwilling to pry into her reasons for such unusual extracurricular study, he felt at a loss as to how to proceed. Though he was rarely one to offer his assistance - such as it was - to those with whom he was not quite familiar, in this instance it seemed to be right: proper in a way he could not entirely identify. He found himself offering before the thought had fully formed. "If you ever need to talk, I'm in five-oh-four. I'm no therapist, but I'm a good listener, and I'm curious." His smile was weak, but sincere. "It might help for you to get this stuff off your chest."

Dorcas slowly sat up, rubbing her face with her hands and not really worrying if any of her stupid useless makeup was ruined. Stupid, stupid makeup. Five-oh-four was good to know but she doubted she would ever take him up on his offer. "Even with the Pax stuff, I don't think you'd believe everything I told you. So I will politely decline but I do appreciate the offer. Not really used to having any sort of friend." If they could really be considered friends having just met each other. She doubted social protocols really allowed for that.

He smiled faintly, nodding; it was a sentiment he could easily understand even if he wasn't in agreement with it. He could scarcely judge her silence when he had held his own throughout his own trials. "The offer stands," he said. His eyes narrowed as he peered into her own smudged and smoky gaze, but there was more concern in that look than anything approaching judgment. "Try the forum first if you do come down. I work shift and all, so sometimes I'm not around."

He pushed his empty cup aside, tapping idly at the rim of the saucer. "I should let you get back to work," he said, moving to rise from his seat. "It was really good meeting you, Dorcas. Hopefully I'll see you around."

Dorcas nodded a little but she wouldn't take him up on that offer unless she really started to go off the deep end. Hopefully that wouldn't happen... Hopefully. She watched him rise from his seat, frowning a little. Actually, she didn't have any other work going for her today but she didn't say as much. After all, who would want to spend excessive amounts of time with her? Oh, look at that self-esteem there... Or lack thereof. "Goodbye, Adam," was all she said in turn. She was just that damn stubborn to think they would likely not talk again.
