Who: Simon & Others
What: Opening day of his first exhibit
Where: SoCa Metro Gallery
When: Today and throughout the week
Warnings: None to speak of
Notes: Consider this to be an open, party-style log. Since his exhibit is running for a week, feel free to drop in at any time. Just title your comment with the day in question in case other characters are there at the same time. I'll tag in to anyone who comments, though if you don't want me to, feel free to say that as well. Simon doesn't have to notice everyone who stops in. xD

SoCa Metro Gallery was small, tucked into a small space on a busy street, and unless you were particularly interested in finding it, one was likely to simply pass it by. But that was something that Simon was rather fond of, because it was in places like that that one often found little nuggets of beauty.

He could only hope other people could think the same about his exhibit.

Opening day, and he was wracked with nausea at the mere thought of people coming in to see his art, potentially buying it, and potentially hating it. He was much more content to bring in several pieces to sell when he was no where near the place to keep an eye on things, but the curator of the gallery had requested him to spend as much time as he could at the gallery, particularly during opening day. So there he was, rubbing sweat-slick hands against his slacks, trying to gather his nerves into a bundle that he could handle.

It wasn't going very well.

Various examples of his paintings were hung on the walls, most featuring picturesque scenes of the ocean, mountains, and forests. There were also several abstract pieces that were bright in colour and thick with meaning to their creator, and centered in the midst of those abstract pieces was one piece that could only speak of one thing. Halloween. It wasn't obvious at first glance, but the colours and motifs used in the oil piece all pulled together to speak of a day that was both important to him and frustrating as well. Maybe a part of him hoped that it would have some meaning to someone else; part of him hoped the person out there that was his twin would recognise it and say something.

But Simon didn't hold his breath.

He did hold on to a bottle of water, though, taking a drink from it every few moments as he paced the gallery floor, waiting for people to arrive so he could attempt some manner of hospitality to them.

Moana turned to him with a little smile. Though she suspected this was Simon, it never hurt to do some flirting with anyone she was planning to do business with. It tended to make things to a lot more smoothly, whether the business was in the bedroom or out. "I am, in fact. I was hoping to find the artist." The corners of her lips turned upward a tiny bit more, and her tone became teasing. "I've heard he's quite a handsome man. Have you seen him around?"

In a way, she sort of hoped he bristled a little. He looked like the bristly type, and they were so much more fun than the ones that tumbled over their own tongues the second she started flirting.

Simon tilted his head to the side at those words, arching a brow. "Really? I haven't heard that said about him, but perhaps we're just not hearing the same things about the artist." Shoulders shrugged up just a bit and he turned to look at the painting in front of them, keeping a nonchalant attitude about it all. Flirting never really made him comfortable... in fact, it usually made him feel absolutely awkward. While he could appreciate a beautiful woman making conversation, what point was there in it if he didn't know them? It was best to play it safe.

Laughing softly, Moana decided that he was probably stressed out enough without playing games, and let him off easy... this time. "Simon? It's Moana."

She looked at the painting as well, evaluating it carefully. Though she was no art expert, she knew what was beautiful, and she knew what she enjoyed. "You're very good, and I do like what I see."

That got his attention, looking back towards her before letting out a quiet, relieved sound. "Sorry. Too many people and I've never been good at reading anyone." Now that he knew who he was dealing with, he relaxed (marginally), at least enough to where his shoulders weren't creeping up towards his ears.

"But I'm glad that you like it. Though I'm not sure how I would react if someone told me they hated it." Simon tilted his head to the side, then shook his head in amusement. "Sorry."

"I can't imagine why anyone would dislike this." Moana spoke softly, in the tone she used when Blanche was acting spooked. It seemed flirting might have been the wrong move, if Simon found it nerve-wracking rather than flattering. Normally, she would have continued on with it for her own amusement, but she wanted Simon to paint her something breathtaking, and it stood to reason she'd get better work if he actually liked her.

Keeping the hint of a tease out of her smile was difficult, but Moana was a professional. She could handle it. "So, you've had a good crowd? That's wonderful! I hope I can sneak my commission in before you get flooded with them."

He hummed softly at her comment, arms folding across his chest in what some would come to notice as a classic 'distancing himself' posture. It was so familiar for him to do so that he often didn't even notice he did it. "People have strange taste and there isn't a thing in the world that isn't disliked by at least one person," Simon responded, glancing over towards her, gaze lingering for a moment but he looked away promptly at that tease of a smile.

"I wouldn't say it's a good crowd, but it's been enough for me. One person showing up would have been enough." Her comment at having enough time drew his gaze again, however, and he shook his head. "You've already got time of mine taken. I promised you, didn't I?"

"It was a joke. And a compliment. You're not very good with those, are you?" There was only so much Moana could do to tone down the flirting without acting completely asexual, and she didn't think public was the place to try a new act out. She'd at least restrained her usual habit of touching and keeping direct eye contact to show that her attention was on the man she was talking to.

Since she didn't think he'd want to answer that question, Moana spoke again quickly. "I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for my apartment. I'd like to leave it totally up to you. Whatever style, whatever colors, whatever you feel suits best." Moana wasn't an artist, but she had known enough who professed to be that she knew the best work would be what they were inspired to do, not what was ordered.

The concept of such artistic liberty made his eyes widen slightly, hardly able to think of where to begin. "You hardly know me and you're trusting me that much? You have... no preferences?" The concept, the liberty, was both completely fearsome and impossibly exciting, so much so that he wasn't entirely sure how he ought to be reacting.

"Sorry. It's... I would love the challenge. I'm just afraid of creating something you absolutely hate." A nervous laugh escaped him, one hand scratching at the back of his head, finally meeting her gaze. It lasted for only a moment or two before he looked away, turning towards the table near the back that housed the champagne. "Do you want something to drink? There's champagne? And it's actually pretty good."

"I'd love some, thank you." Moana had a feeling her concept of 'pretty good' might be different, but she could at least recognize that she was a bit spoiled, as far as that went. Normally, she would take his arm to walk over to the table, but again she restrained herself. She could flirt shamelessly with the pretty boy after the transaction was complete, she told herself. "And you are the artist, I am simply the appreciative customer. My only request is that it suits what decorating I've already done, not that there's much. I'm sure you'd cringe at the thought of putting anything where it clashed horribly, anyway."

He extended his hand to indicate the way, trusting her to follow as he moved over to pour her a glass, abstaining for the moment from drinking. It was still early, and he hadn't had anything to eat yet. Offering the glass over towards her, he gave her a small mile and a nod of his head. "If that happened, I would probably burn the canvas rather than letting it look like that," he admitted, feeling a bit silly for saying so, but, it was the truth, after all.

"I could come up sometime to see what you have done already, then at least I have an idea of the colours to use."

Moana had trailed close behind him, and accepted the glass with (finally) a perfectly innocent, non-teasing smile of her own. She'd known she could get it, with enough practice.

She took a sip, then hummed with pleased surprise. It really wasn't that bad... they were breaking out the nice champagne for their promising young artist, it seemed. "I think you coming up to take a look would be best. I'm afraid I couldn't describe it very well. I hope you can take some sort of inspiration from it."

Pleased that she enjoyed the champagne, Simon sat the bottle back down, giving her his attention again, much more at ease at talking 'work' than any sort of personal topic. "While I'm sure some could gather their inspiration from the surroundings, I think it would probably be better to take a large part of it from the person in question." A sidelong glance followed his words and he looked away, reaching into his pocket to pull out a small, half-sized business card. The backside was a print of one of his seascapes, and on the front, his name and number.

"Call me when it's a good time to come up. I'm usually around most of the time," he said, offering her the card as he met her gaze once more.

Moana kept her eyes on his as long as he would permit it, accepting the card and tucking it safely into her handbag. "Thank you, I'll do that. Sometime next week, once your exhibit is over, would be best, I assume? Or the next week, so you have time to rest?" No matter how much she liked people, she knew she'd want to close herself into her apartment and sleep for at least a day after something like this. Simon, who seemed so uncomfortable with people, might need more time than that. She wouldn't rush him, that wouldn't be good for a business relationship at all.
