Who: Simon & Others
What: Opening day of his first exhibit
Where: SoCa Metro Gallery
When: Today and throughout the week
Warnings: None to speak of
Notes: Consider this to be an open, party-style log. Since his exhibit is running for a week, feel free to drop in at any time. Just title your comment with the day in question in case other characters are there at the same time. I'll tag in to anyone who comments, though if you don't want me to, feel free to say that as well. Simon doesn't have to notice everyone who stops in. xD

SoCa Metro Gallery was small, tucked into a small space on a busy street, and unless you were particularly interested in finding it, one was likely to simply pass it by. But that was something that Simon was rather fond of, because it was in places like that that one often found little nuggets of beauty.

He could only hope other people could think the same about his exhibit.

Opening day, and he was wracked with nausea at the mere thought of people coming in to see his art, potentially buying it, and potentially hating it. He was much more content to bring in several pieces to sell when he was no where near the place to keep an eye on things, but the curator of the gallery had requested him to spend as much time as he could at the gallery, particularly during opening day. So there he was, rubbing sweat-slick hands against his slacks, trying to gather his nerves into a bundle that he could handle.

It wasn't going very well.

Various examples of his paintings were hung on the walls, most featuring picturesque scenes of the ocean, mountains, and forests. There were also several abstract pieces that were bright in colour and thick with meaning to their creator, and centered in the midst of those abstract pieces was one piece that could only speak of one thing. Halloween. It wasn't obvious at first glance, but the colours and motifs used in the oil piece all pulled together to speak of a day that was both important to him and frustrating as well. Maybe a part of him hoped that it would have some meaning to someone else; part of him hoped the person out there that was his twin would recognise it and say something.

But Simon didn't hold his breath.

He did hold on to a bottle of water, though, taking a drink from it every few moments as he paced the gallery floor, waiting for people to arrive so he could attempt some manner of hospitality to them.

"It's okay." Simon gave him a grin, patting the other man on the shoulder. "Like I've said before. It's not for everyone, so I don't mind if everyone 'gets it'." And his words were honest, as honest as anything he said.

When the attention was drawn back to him, Simon's eyes widened just a little bit, glancing away as he let out a breath. "Yeah. It's... going. I'm still kind of in shock about it all," he said, voice a bit on the sheepish side. He didn't say anything for a moment, then laughed quietly. "And... I'm not sure. If anyone has shown up, they haven't introduced themselves to me as someone from the building. It's not like I really know anyone by sight other than you."

Simon shifted his weight from foot to foot, letting out another breath. "Sorry. I'm still overwhelmed."

Billy clapped Simon on the shoulder with a little more strength than was absolutely necessary, grinning. "Aw, well. They might still show up yet." They better, he'd gone to all that trouble to peer pressure people into showing. "It would be cool if the building ended up being all community like that," Billy continued, ignoring grammatical structure entirely. "Since it's so new, and we've got that nice forum thing."

Simon couldn't help but laugh at that, and if Billy paid enough attention, he'd probably notice that around him, Simon was much more open and social than he normally was. But he smiled, folding his arms in front of him. "Yeah, it would be nice to have something like that. Good to know your neighbors and all of that stuff. Never had a thing like that." He paused, tilting his head to the side. "Not that I've ever had an apartment before, so that's kind of a moot point coming from me."

Maybe Billy had kind of noticed that Simon was a little standoffish, especially on the forums and with people he didn't know. He didn't hold it against him, but he had noticed. "Me either," Billy admitted. "My parents aren't exactly the jello mold kind, you know?" He shook his head. "I had my own places in college and stuff, but this is new." He tapped the cane on the floor. "So it's like being a kid again." He grinned like one. "All independence and stuff."

"Exactly that." Simon laughed softly, shaking his head in amusement. "A lot of stuff happening all at one time. But do I wish it was any different? No. Not in the slightest." There was a pause, and he looked over towards Billy.

"There's champagne if you want any. I know you aren't drinking right now but..." He trailed off with a shrug of his shoulders, figuring he should at least offer. It's not as though he would take offense at it being refused.

"Can't," he said, with a conspicuous effort to keep his cheer. "It's dangerous, and all." Then, without elaborating on spinal cord injuries and the danger of infection to internal organs below the point of injury, he said, "Besides, I don't want to embarrass you at your party." He smirked. "Believe me, if there were any halfway decent girls under fifty in this room, I already would be." Not true. He'd probably be trying to set Simon up.

"I figured as much, but thought I'd be a bad host if I didn't at least offer. There's bottled water and..." He paused again, glancing over his shoulder to the table set up near the back with the aforementioned champagne. "I think cookies. I have no idea who brought them, but there are cookies." Another pause, then he looked back towards Billy with another crooked smile. "Guess that's what they do here. Go figure."

At the mention of the girls, Simon had to shake his head in amusement. "Somehow, that doesn't surprise me. You look to be quite the ladies man, after all."

Billy managed to look cool and smug at the same time. The rock star thing got him a lot of women. In fact, the rock star thing got him just about anything he wanted--except, he discovered, a new pair of legs that worked. He got that it wasn't a cosmic lesson, it was just the way things happened sometimes (they made him see a shrink before they let him leave the clinic), but it sure felt that way sometimes. He could still be smug about his former sex life, though. "True enough."

Billy caught his weight on his good leg and lifted up the cane to nudge Simon's shoe. "Go on and entertain your paying customers. I'm going to go find some convincing water to carry around in a glass so it looks like vodka."

Simon looked up then, seeing others milling around, and Billy was right. He did need to go make friends with the strangers. "Yeah, I should. Don't leave without saying bye though. Okay?" And then with a wave Simon turned away to greet a young couple who were perusing some of the landscapes, politely approaching them with a sudden reserved quality that had seemed to reappear in Billy's absence.
