everybody's comin'; leave your body at the door
Who: EVERYONE.
What: The Pax Halloween Party, part one.
Where: Pax Letale apartment complex, rec room.
When: 7 p.m., Oct. 31.
Notes: Hi guys! Sorry this took so long to get up; things have been pretty crazy here. But here is the Halloween event! This is the first part, and should be treated like a regular event; please mark where and when your character can be found throughout the room. Please remember that your character must be wearing their Halloween mask provided to them at the beginning of the month in order to gain admission to the rec room party. This is crucial for the second part of the event. If there are two people in a thread, please ask permission before entering; if you have any questions, please contact the mods! Now on with the show!

Despite the general eeriness of the building at large, those who make their way downstairs to the Halloween party will find it decorated to entertain. The lobby's emptiness will have been filled by a set of bloody sticker footprints from the elevator leading toward the rec room, through the door of which lights and music blare into the hallway. Stephan is waiting outside the entry way, dressed to the nines like a bald Morticia Addams, his red nails clicking on a clipboard as he takes note of who's arrived and who hasn't. Those who aren't dressed appropriately—read: with their Pax-provided masks—will be denied entry until they go and retrieve said item. Upon entry, Stephan will make the remark that attendees are to enjoy themselves, and that a special guest of honor will arrive a few hours later.

Those who make it past the drag queen bouncer will find a rather ghoulishly delightful party inside. Orange and black streamers hang in wound loops from the walls, pinned carefully to the molding near the ceiling. Bats, cartoon cutouts of witches flying over a waning moon, black cats, and pumpkins all cover the walls from top to bottom; carved pumpkins are set on every available table space, lit and flickering in the low light. The doors to the pool area are open, a disco ball shining orange, black and white specks over everything as classic Halloween hits are played from a nearby boombox. The pool itself glows a ghostly green.

Back inside the rec room, a long table opposite the pool table is laden with hot dog finger treats, feet made of meatloaf, speared deviled eggs painted like eyeballs, and every other appropriately-themed Halloween food item an attendee could think of. In the middle of it all, amid black and orange plates and clear, orange-y cups, is a bowl filled generously with store-bought candy. On either side are punch bowls filled with green and red liquid; the former will taste like apple cider, the latter a regular tropical punch. Neither are alcoholic, but attendees are welcome to sneak their own into the party—Stephan's not watching that closely.

Overall, the party seems normal—too normal for some, though no one will find any mislaid bear traps, poisoned candy or razor-blade laden apples anywhere in the vicinity. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts....

Re: Alice/Isobel/Rafe - 8:15 - the entrance

Alice looked with wide eyes from Isobel and Rafael, her shoulders seeming to lose tension as they circled her. She smiled faintly at Isobel, nodding with appreciation that nothing strange had occurred at the party, until her attention was drawn toward Rafael. "He was?" She asked, pink rising on her cheeks. Her eyes darted about the room, landing on each party-goer, and she let out a small laugh.

"God, I need a drink for this. Is there anything alcoholic at this party?" Alice slipped her arms around her friends and pulled them close. "And have either of you seen BB by chance?"

Shaking her head, Isobel started to steer Alice toward the food table.

"The red's spiked, the green's apple," she explained by way of pointing at each. "And you look adorable. Everything's going to be fine. Obed and I were talking to Lucas earlier as well, and he's excited to see you." Her voice dropped to a whisper, as her dual faces leaned in conspiratorially. "Frankly, I'm a little surprised you two didn't come together...?"

"I highly recommend the red," Rafael cut in, smiling as he did. Then he sipped at his own replenished drink, watching Alice's reaction to Isobel's question. He could not help but smile. The liquor, the heat, the costumes, the party itself all conspired to make him feel remarkably happy. He wanted to ask more, to share in whatever budding relationship his friend might be enjoying, but the mention of the conspicuously missing Brittany Bernard gave him pause. Determined not to bring the mood down, he still could not resist chiming in once more.

"I haven't seen BB," he said. "Maybe she's just planning on being fashionably late." He pointed toward the generous spread of food on the table. "The meatloaf is actually surprisingly good..."

"Meatloaf?" Alice asked, a laugh managing to escape. Biting at her bottom lip to try and stamper her smile, she looked to the punch bowls. "I think I'll have red, if it's spiked. I mean... maybe it'll calm me down, right?" She glanced between her friends and the color deepened. Tucking her hair behind an ear and fixing the mask on her face didn't help to hide her blush.

"And I have a story about Lucas and..." she pointed to Rafael. "I hope she's fashionably late. We haven't spoken but did you see the post about no one seeing her? I'm kind of concerned."

Isobel busied herself getting Alice a cup of the requested punch.

"She is one to make herself heard, isn't she?" Isobel held the cup out to the redhead. "I've been pretty busy myself, but I haven't seen her. Then again, this building's so big, it's kind of easy to get lost in, isn't it?"

Her hands smoothed down her front, readjusting some of her skirts when she came to her waist. She decided to stick to blind insistence that things would be all right; there was no point in entertaining the other avenue. "I'm sure she's fine, really. Now, what's this story about Lucas?"

Rafael nodded, having seen—but not responded to—the post in question. He hardly knew Brittany well enough to have answered, and in truth had been too caught up in his own concerns to truly notice she had been gone. He did not chime in with this, though, certain it would only worry Alice further, and distract her from the story she still had to tell. Instead he milled around the snack table, picking up a few more small finger foods and testing them in turn. He watched Alice closely, one brow arched as he listened to her.

"Well..." Alice began, accepting the cup and taking a sip from it. She made a face, her nose wrinkling from the heaviness of the alcohol, but swallowed the liquid anyway before continuing. "I went to his apartment the other day and..."

She glanced about and leaned in more closely to Isobel and Rafael, her eyes bright and conspiratory as she continued. "Apollo, the god? He took over his body. Possessed him. It was still Lucas but Apollo was in control. I think it was like what happened with you, Rafael, when Uke Mochi took over me. Except his body didn't change or anything. It was still his body entirely.

"We talked and I sort of let slip that I like Lucas...I thought that he wouldn't remember it all, because I don't remember when Uke Mochi was taking over my body. But... he does remember. So I feel awkward." She pouted and glanced over her shoulder in the general direction where she could see Lucas.

"Oh," Isobel said before she realized she was speaking. Her brows knit over her eyes, hands switching the hold on her own drink to free one to settle on Alice's shoulder.

"Isn't that a good thing, though? I mean, he knows, and you can get an answer. I...actually might have asked him if you two were here, and...uh, told Obed he was your boyfriend." She offered with a wincing smile.

Isobel quickly continued on, explaining. "Lucas was quick to correct me, but he did say he was excited to see you here. That can only mean good things, don't you think?"

Again Rafael nodded, more enthusiastically than before. No part of her admission sounded negative; he was excited for her, and concerned that she did not seem so, herself.

"Talk to him," Rafael said. He glanced around the room, his eyes alighting on Lucas briefly before darting back to Alice. "Why wouldn't you?" Liquor loosened his tongue, made him more insistent than he might have otherwise been. "Are you not interested in him anymore? Because if this is just because of nerves, you owe it to yourself to push past that."

"I am!" She replied all too quickly and immediately grew shy. "I'm just... you know. It's nerves, I guess. I don't want to mess things up and after everything go messed up with Gus... and then Brittany... and now Brittany is missing."

She frowned, her shoulders slumping slightly as she gripped her cup and took another drink of it. "I just don't want to mess anything up, you know? Particularly with all the oddities going on around here. Like, is it even worth pursuing something new like that with everything?" She looked between Rafael and Isobel and frowned. "I mean, you both had pre-established relationships. I mean something super brand new."

"Of course," Isobel started, confused. Her hand smoothed down Alice's arm, then left it to cup her drink in front of her. "Obed and I broke up after moving here, and... We hadn't even been dating for all that long beforehand anyway. But we worked through our issues and..." She shrugged. "I think we're even better than before, and even though the building is... I don't know, what it is doesn't mean that you just..." Her hand came away from her drink, weaving through the air as though she were searching for words to pull from it.

"You don't hit pause on life just because there are other things going on. If anything, I think you take the good things even more since there's so many other things happening around you, because that's what helps ground you and makes you appreciate them even more.

"Rafe, you agree with me, right?" She took a step toward the other man, elbowing him gently.

He moved closer in answer, sucking the last bit of sauce from the tip of his thumb. "I do," he said. He looked from Alice to Isobel and back again, as though his lingering gaze might impress upon them how intensely he believed this.

"Gabe and I... we were over, Alice. There was nothing pre-established about us. A foundation, sure, but when I saw him here, I thought I had less of a chance than I would have had we not known each other at all. You know? But now..." His smile only grew. He shrugged. "This place is bizarre, but that doesn't mean good things aren't possible here. Don't discount this thing with Lucas, whatever it may end up being, before it's even started."

Alice bit her lip as she listened to both of her friends but by the end, she was slowly nodding her head. Taking another good drink of the highly alcoholic punch, she gave a final nod before lowering the half empty cup. "You're both right," she admitted. "I'm just frightened, you know all of my relationships have gone sour very quickly. And..."

She found Lucas in the crowd and her facial features softened as she gazed at him. "I like his company, I like being able to talk to him and share with him everything that's happened at the apartment. I...I don't want to lose his friendship by messing it up with a relationship. But..."

She bit at her lip again before pulling her gaze back to her friends. "He likes me, I like him, might as well give it a go, right?"

[OOC: I think a tag from both of you can give some final say and sort of push her on her way to go talk to Lucas? LMK if you want to extend it!]

"Yes," Isobel replied, a hint too excitedly. Her hand reached to brush Alice's elbow encouragingly, the smile on her face happy for her friend.

"And if anything happens, we're here. OK? So just come look for us." She didn't mention that she'd more than likely be keeping an eye on the proceedings between Alice and Lucas regardless; she wanted the redhead to feel secure enough to fly off on her own, into this enticing proposition.

[OOC: I'm good! Last tag from Isobel.]

Rafe's smile broadened considerably. The look on her face was confirmation enough, assurance that they were pushing her in the right direction. He owed her this much, after all; all the times she'd listened to him, all the help she had offered him in his numerous times of need. The least he could do was goad her toward seeking her own happiness.

"Absolutely. Now go on." He waved her toward the crowd, back to where Lucas lingered. He arched a brow, his grin still shining in his eyes. "And let us know how it goes!"

Alice looked between her friends, raised her cup to her lip where she finished off the drink that was already getting to her head, then nodded. "Here goes nothing," she said, although her voice came out more nervous than she intended. Tampering her tone with a bright smile, she stepped forward as her hands brushed against Rafael and Isobel's arms, a final note of gratitude before she moved through the crowd toward Lucas.
