Who: Laura and [ OPEN ]
What: Laura continues her search for her daughter on the second floor.
Where: Second floor.
When: April 17.
Notes: Open to anyone who'd like to come on in.
Her approach to any loss was always the same response: systematic attention to the problem until it was dealt with, or it ended in its own way. They'd spent the rest of Sunday searching the first floor, which had ended fruitlessly. Laura had finally let John convince her to go back upstairs; they both needed rest, and if they couldn't get out, surely Anaise couldn't either. She'd thought she wouldn't be able to sleep, but the moment she'd sat down on their couch, she'd passed out. Coming to a few hours later, the twins settled in a strange lump of limbs, they'd unwound, fed themselves, and continued the search.
Laura now found herself on the second floor, which was strikingly familiar. She'd walked the long allies between gravestones in the St. Louis cemeteries many times as a child and as a teen; the chalk drawings on the walls were comforting, in a way, like staring at pictures of old family members. It didn't look like there was anywhere a child could hide, except for the altars at either ends of the hall. Still, she found herself hardpressed to stay quiet. Even if she did wake another tenant up mistakenly, at least she'd be able to ask them if they'd seen a short girl with dark hair.
"Anaise? Baby, aren't you hungry? Uncle John made beans and rice last night for dinner; don't you wanna come home and have some?"
