Hello, new neighbors. My name is Moana, and I live [...] upstairs from all of you, I think. I will do my best to be a quiet neighbor, but in the next couple of weeks I will start getting some visitors. Don't concern yourselves with them, it's a business matter and it's best to just not worry about it. I'm sure I will meet some of you over the next few days, as I'm overseeing the moving of my furniture, so feel free to say hello, if you'd like.

I'm afraid I've come off as being unfriendly. I promise that's untrue, it's just so hard to be anything but impersonal over the internet. Face to face, I promise I'm much, much nicer.

First impressions are often misleading. Think of Androcles and the Lion!

I'm afraid I'm not familiar.

You're not? Such a shame. I can take care of that.

You see, back in Roman times there was this slave named Androcles. He runs away from his cruel master. He doesn't get far before coming tired and seeks refuge in a cave. He believes it's abandoned and falls asleep soon enough. It's not much later though that he's woken by a terrible roaring. Androcles shoots up to see a ferocious lion in there with him. At first look, he's monstrous and terrifying - a real danger.

At the second glance, he realizes there's a thorn in the lion's paw. Androcles befriends the lion by pullin the thorn from his paw. They help each other later on and when faced with having to kill each other, instead refuse to.

How [...] interesting! Now, the question is, do you think I'm Androcles, or the lion?

Do you have a thorn?

Doesn't everyone have a few thorns?

Some have more than others.

Hm, maybe we should just reserve judgment on that one for now, then, shall we? I don't feel like I can reliably judge my own thorns.

Few people can. Did I say I was Sheila?

What if some of us like unfriendly neighbors?

If that's what you'd like, I'm sure I can manage that, as well.

That far upstairs, sound's not even going to reach down here, holy shit.

It's more an expression of my intention to have a peaceful relationship with my neighbors than an actual concern, of course.

Man, if there were more people in my last building like you, I wouldn't have cut and run so fast. I had people living next door who broke my window once.

I'm confident in saying there aren't many like me at all, no matter where you go.

Still, a [...] former coworker mistreated my things, once. I made sure She never did it again, but after that I would never harm another person's possessions unless they really deserved it.

Damn. You're like some kinda really rich saint. You wouldn't fuck up someone's shit even if they did something first?

You're very direct, aren't you? [...] In a sense, though I'm not really sure if this is a good topic for a public forum.

Your directness is very refreshing. It's rare.

Lot of people disagree. Usually when I'm calling them out on what they are, i.e. a cockbite.
