Community Center Gathering Post
It's Day Five of the cold. Snow still on the ground, not going anywhere, but at least there isn't more falling.

And there's a new baby to celebrate today!

P.S. let us know if people start getting frisky so we can lock this post.

There was a metric ton of snow outside and a new baby. That Maria chick had disappeared so Nick assumed she was about to pop next. Banner was still hanging around so he wondered if the guy had even noticed his baby mama had slipped out.

Meanwhile, Nick was going a bit stir crazy and had taken to playing Yahtzee by himself.

It was always a bit disconcerting for Peggy when she came across Nick, considering he was nearly identical in looks to Steve. She knew they didn't have nearly the same personality at all however, and in fact thought they were quite opposites. She, too, had felt very cooped up over the last several days, feeling as though everywhere she turned she ran into someone, sometimes even literally.

When she saw Nick playing yahtzee by himself, she walked over and asked if she could join him. "Wouldn't it be more fun if you had someone to play against?" Peggy asked.

Nick looked up when he heard her voice and smiled. "Probably. But since I'm practicing cheating I figured it would be better to not ask around."

He demonstrated by tossing the dice then using his telekinesis to knock one over, making it look like it just rolled a bit extra.

She arched an eyebrow. "Now where's the fun in cheating? Isn't it more fun not knowing if you're going to win and working towards it?" Or, perhaps, she thought, he might consider that was what he was doing, by cheating. "Are they loaded dice?" she asked, taking a seat opposite him and adjusting the blanket she was using to keep warm around herself.

"Where I came from, this was how I made money to live or run." His smirk pulled only to one side.

Then he chuckled. "No. I am." He smiled at Peggy as he picked up the dice with his telekinesis, floated them to her then dropped them into her hand.

She tipped her head to the side. "Habits are hard to break, hmn?" she commented, because they both knew he didn't need to cheat to make money here, as there was no money here to gain.

Peggy smiled at him then watched in fascination as he moved the dice without touching them, right into the palm of her hand. "Telekinesis?" She looked at him sharply but with surprise. "That's handy."

"Keeps me in practice," he said with a chuckle. "Just in case."

Nick nodded as Peggy guessed correctly. "Back home I'm called a Mover. I can do all kinds of things with it." He shrugged a shoulder. "My dad was better."

Just in case of what, she thought she'd ask but chose not to. "How else are you using it?" she asked. "Perhaps you could help with building or moving things around, though I'm sure you're already doing that." She smiled at him.

"What else can you do?" she asked, leaning forward a bit, her chin resting on her palm.

"I helped Finnick build their cabin," he confirmed. "Lifted all kinds of things without breaking a sweat." All though he did get headaches if he over worked his ability. There was one time he even gave himself a nosebleed, but he never admitted to any of that.

Then he smirked as he looked Peggy directly in the eyes. "I can do all kinds of things." He slowly flicked a finger and a lock of her hair tucked itself behind her ear.

"That's good of you," she said. She imagined it might be easier to take care of things that required heavy lifting if one didn't have to, actually lift. "I'm sure they appreciated it as well."

Peggy fought back the blush and smile at both Nick's direct look at her and the feel of her hair moving of its own accord, knowing that he was controlling it. Disconcerting how much he looked like Steve. But she couldn't keep herself from a smile, and the corners of her mouth flicked upwards as she ducked her gaze away from him for a very brief moment. "Now that's a neat party trick," she said.

Okay that was adorable. But not like in a cute, school girl kind of way. More like a woman who hadn't been flirted with in a long time and he just managed to make her blush. Awesome!

"So how are you liking it here?" he asked, getting more comfortable in a way he could face her. "Other than the snow...which is really not usual."

She wet her lips and shifted to tuck herself up under the blanket a little better, ignoring the feeling of her own hair tickling the side of her neck and her ear. "So far so good," Peggy said, "as long as you ignore the snow." She smiled at him. "It's a beautiful place. And it's been very interesting getting to know everyone." And reacquainting herself with people she had lost and even people she hadn't known but knew of her.

Nick reached out to help pull that blanket a bit more around her. What? He could be a gentleman. Sometimes. "Well, hopefully it will go back to being tropical and dear god warm soon." Then he grimaced. "Meanwhile we're stuck in here trying to come up with ways to entertain ourselves."

"Yes," she said. "It would seem as though there is still some propriety to be had here amid everything else." Peggy gave Nick a grin to let him know she wasn't completely serious, though truthfully, while she didn't mind the idea (wanted it, even) of enjoying the company of attractive men, she wasn't really eager to do so in full view of everyone else.

Nick was a dog, but even he had his limits. Public displays of lust was where he drew the line. Now if he could find a tucked away little place where no one would see he would be all for that.

"Guess the gods are teaching us a lesson in patience."

"And I imagine that the wait for those of us who choose to do so will be a very good pay off in the end," she said softly, with a quirk of the corner of her lips. Because she was certain there were some people who weren't exercising patience at all.

That was upfront. Peggy raised an eyebrow. "As far as I can tell, you and Steve are very different men, even if you look the same. I don't think it's fair to compare the two of you." She, knowing Steve as she did, found it easy to spot the differences, though she could imagine how for some others, those difference might not be as apparent. But if that were the case, wouldn't it not matter between the two them? A slight frown passed across her face momentarily.

Whoa. Nick blinked. He knew who Peggy was. Knew what she was to Steve in the movie. And now he got the eyebrow then a glower. Swing and a not just a miss but he bounced the bat right off his own shin.

"Yeah, I'm totally not doing that because no way could I even come close to the bar he sets as a guy."

"The bar he sets," Peggy repeated, confused. "I'm afraid I don't understand why you think someone would prefer him over you simply because ... of what, exactly?" She hadn't encountered anyone yet outside of those from her same universe or Peter, from a parallel one, who knew who she was, so she had no idea that he knew who she was and what her relationship was to Steve.

"Did something change when he arrived?"

"He's Captain Freaking America!" Nick declared then tossed his hands in the air. "Ultimate nice guy and all that. Not to mention his abs are way better than mine."

He chuckled then shrugged. "I got told I look a lot like him back home after the movie came out. The girls loved it. He showed up here before, but he was a raging dick so I don't know what weirdo flipped universe he came from. But now he's back. Normal. And...yeah."

Peggy blinked a few times as she let all of that sink in. A movie. A Steve described as "a raging dick" (was that even possible?). And now normal. She sat up a bit and looked at Nick with renewed interest. She wouldn't have pegged him to be the type to be jealous and yet it seemed as though he was. "I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure how to respond to any of that. I --"

"Characters in a movie," she repeated back to him. "I'm pretty sure that qualifies for the strangest thing I've heard since I arrived here, and there's been quite a lot I've learned as it is." It took a moment but she managed a smile. "I don't know if it'll help, or if you were just teasing me since you apparently know who I am, but I'm enjoying talking to you for you, and not for being Steve's look-alike."

Ella was happy to be around so many people while they were confined mostly to the Community Center. She liked being around so many kind, considerate people, even if a number of them did warn her that she didn't need to get pregnant so quickly. She did still want to have a child and Isaac was certainly a worth candidate in her mind. It would just be a while, she thought, before they would be granted the privilege of creating a child for Lady Arva.

In the meantime, she was more than happy to make sure that everyone was plenty warm and that they had anything they could need. Ella picked up here and there where she could, whether it was trash or dirty plates that needed washing. She still had Isaac's flannel shirt to keep herself warm, though she was careful not to get it dirty while she tended to the others. When she noticed that the fire could use stoking, Ella headed over to the fireplace.

"I promise I'll only be a moment," she offered to the person sitting by the fire for warmth. "I just want to tend to the fire so it continues to keep us warm."

Peter was sitting above the fireplace, resting against the chimney as it went up, stuck to the wall as he read a book and then blinked when he saw Ella appear, looking down at the woman, he grinned and just shrugged his shoulders, "You're fine, you're fine. You know, you don't have to do all of this, working to make sure everyone's warm and fed and all that. We're all capable of handling that ourselves, you should be worrying more about you and your warmth."

He leaped off the chimney's wall and landed with a soft thud next to her, standing to his full height as he held his hand out, "I'm Peter, we talked briefly on the network--I think you said your name was Ella? A pleasure to meet you."

He then set the book down on a nearby table and looked around, "Plus, with all of us huddled together, it's a wonder we're not all roasting anyway..."

She hadn't thought much of a man sitting above the fireplace until he spoke and that was when she realized something was unusual about it. "Oh! I don't mind," she replied, recognizing him as Peter from the network. He'd been the one who said something about D&D, though she still wasn't clear about what that was. "How are you able to stay up there?" she asked curiously, even as he leaped off the chimney wall to land next to her.

"Yes, my name is Ella," she replied, shaking his hand. It was very curious, his abilities. "It's a pleasure to meet you in person as well, Peter. I apologize for my question. It's so very different from anything I've ever seen before." She appreciated that he wanted to make sure she knew she didn't have to do anything around the Community Center, but she wanted to. It made her feel useful in a way that was so much nicer than anything she'd experienced back home. Everyone seemed to care about her, and her well being.

"I'm keeping very warm. Isaac lent me his flannel," she explained, gesturing to the shirt that was incongruous from the rest of her outfit. He was also who she was curling up with for the most part, but that was private as far as she was concerned.

Peter smiled at the question, he'd gotten that a lot lately and shrugged, "The scientific way of putting it is I connect to the wall on a molecular level with electrostatic energy, but the easiest way to say it is I have powers derived from a spider, and as such I can crawl on walls like they can." Peter then raised a brow, "And the question is fine, I get it all the time. Happy to answer."

Peter's brow continued to stay up as she continued to speak, "Oh, well then you're certainly very warm. Good on Isaac and his flannel. Still, I hate to think you're waiting on everyone hand and foot when you don't have to, but I'm also never one to stand in people's ways if that's what they want to do, so either or and I'm happy. Where'd you come from, if you don't mind me asking Ella? And what brings you to Sex Island?"

Ella didn't understand the scientific explanation and it showed, but she lit up as she realized she understood the easier explanation. "Oh! How fantastic!" That was simply unheard of in her world and she had thought it much the same in terms of the Island. "That must come quite in handy," she replied, impressed with what it could mean for him. She wasn't envious exactly, but she did think that it must be handy if he ever wanted to stay out of the way of everyone.

"I am from the year 1942, though perhaps not the same 1942 that others have experienced," Ella explained. "I met a man here, Mr ah, Steve, who lived through the 1940s, but he experienced a war I never heard of. The kingdom I come from is very small, and I lived on the outskirts of it in my family home. I...well, I ran away," she admitted as she turned back to the fire to tend it. "My father died a few years ago and it has been very hard without him."

"Oh, it definitely helps and has a lot going for it. I rather like being able to do it a lot, it's helped in many many situations, especially with getting away from people and get alone."

He then raised a brow, "1942? And a Kingdom? Interesting. There weren't much in the way of Kingdoms in the 1942 of my world, but there were a couple. It would seem to be with the way of this place, though, that you're from an alternate universe. They're really stretching time and space for this uh... endeavor of theirs. It's probably a good idea."

He then blinked, frowning, lifting a hand to set on her shoulder, "I can understand that. But it must have been hard too, being on your own like that."
