We haven't had a story telling bonfire in a while. So tonight's post will be 1000 points for a starter that tells a cultural story. This can be something personal or something general about your character's world.

Peter and OTA

Peter watched the crew around him, he wasn't all that good at telling stories really. It had never been his strong suit, he'd always been pretty shy when he was younger, and only recently had begun to really come out of his shell. Still, people wanted this to be a story sharing experience, and frankly he didn't really mind. He'd been through a lot as Spider-Man, but then again he was never really entirely sure which one was a great story or not.

"Now this is a story, all about how, my life got flipped-turned upside down. And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there, and I'll tell you how I became the ... Spider-Man." Peter frowned thinking a moment, "That didn't rhyme, Will would be disappointed. Uh, so that's how I learned to rap. From Will Smith and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. So uh, yea field trip when I was fifteen really started the downward spiral. We went to Oscorp, and I was bitten by a radioactive spider. It infused its DNA with me, and I got powers somehow. Scientifically, it really doesn't make any real sense..."

He laughed and then frowned, "I was selfish with it at first, though. I went on to try and gain fame, fortune; I joined a wrestling league, it's where I got the first title of 'The Amazing Spider-Man'. I let it consume me, I let my own greed and arrogance take apart of me. And I decided to let a criminal go when I could have stopped him with my powers. i felt like it wasn't my responsibility, or place, and acted like I didn't care. He was a burglar, and I could have stopped him..."

He shook his head then shrugged, looking up with a frown, "That same man later killed my Uncle. The man who had been caring for me. Who raised me since I was six. He was/is dead because of me. ...It was after that day that I decided to wear the mask to be a hero, to be Spider-Man, because I didn't want that to happen to anyone else. And I owed my Uncle, I had a responsibility because of my power."

Lailah didn't have a story to tell so she came to hear others and to meet up with Peter as they agreed. She had found him just before he began his tale. The angel sat down nearby to listen.

She didn't understand why not rhyming was bad or who Will Smith was, but it didn't seem to matter as Peter got into the details. When he reached the end her heart went out to him. Obviously that had deeply affected him.

"You should not blame yourself."

Peter laughed and looked towards Lailah, his hands wrapping together and his head tilting to the side with a light smirk, shrugging, a shake of his head suggesting he was waving off the suggestion, "Maybe I shouldn't, but I do. And I will. You see, it's been on my mind since I was 16. It's the single most important driving force in what I do; I do blame myself, and I have to, it was my fault. My selfishness, my arrogance, my ignorance, it all lead to my Uncle's death."

He then looked up at her and smiled softly, "But it's not something that haunts me, it's just motivation now. To be a better person. I may sound depressed while talking about it, but it's just because I miss him so much. I'm not depressed though, I've learned to be strong in the face of it all."

Lailah tilted her head as she listened. His words were harsh, but his tone indicated this was as natural as the sun coming up. She didn't understand that. Peter should not judge himself so harshly, but it seemed he would not be convinced otherwise.

"I do not understand, but you do not seem disturbed so I will say nothing more about it." She smiled helplessly as she shrugged.

"Well, i suppose not everyone would understand. That's fine, it's probably good you don't. It means you haven't necessarily experienced it, and that's good, I wouldn't want you to." He smiled to her and then raised a brow.

"You're Lailah, though, right? Enough about my depression, weren't you here to teach me something?" He laughed, trying to change the subject.

"I'm sorry," she said looking more than a little contrite. "Most people do not understand me so I know how that feels."

But then she smiled, her eyes lighting up. "Yes, I am Lailah. I told you I would meet you tonight."

"A pretty lady by a bonfire? I feel like I'm in High School. A different person's body in high school, but in high school. It's good to meet you Lailah, and don't apologize please. I think we're all here to learn a bit more about one another, different cultures, everything that makes each of us unique in order to build a better society."

He shrugged and leaned forward on his forearms while watching her, tilting his brow up, "So what makes you the expert to teach me how to be more... readily open to things or whatever is a better way of putting that."

She didn't understand the thing about high school, but being used to not understanding human culture she just smiled.

"I am an angel of the Lord. It is my function to teach humans."

He blinked, his joke falling flat and then sighed, "Man I need to work on the pop culture of other cultures. I'm fading miserably around here. Still, alright, angel of the Lord. Interesting... well my Aunt would surely tell me she told me so."

He laughed a bit and then raised a brow, "So, uh, first thing's first. Before the teaching begins... is it true that everytime a bell rings, you get wings?"

Lailah tilted her head in open confusion. "We have always had wings," she said. Then a sad look settled on her face. "Until we were cast out from Heaven. Our wings were broken and torn from us. It hurt."

Peter blinked and frowned. Right, angels are real things no making fun of them through the stories of It's a Wonderful Life. He nodded, "I'm sorry to hear that. Why were you cast out? I'm not very uh... up to date on my Bible stories as it were. Can you get them back ever?"

Lailah pulled her knees up and wrapped her arms around her legs as she sighed.

"My brothers and sisters have been fighting for a long time. Their war culminated in all of us being cast from Heaven and our wings removed. Even me and I was not part of their fight. I do not know if I will get them back."

Peter frowned, shaking his head, "Seems to me it's a bit unfair for you to be placed in the whole group just because they're your siblings. I think that you should be praised, really, if you're doing the right thing. Use you as an example of what's right."

He shrugged and then smiled, "But here you are now though, and we're all super happy to have you. I know I am. Maybe Arva can give you wings back, who knows, she's the goddess here, right?"

Lailah shrugged her shoulders. "There is little I can do about it. I was never one of the more powerful angels. Some were angry with me that I did not take a side."

She smiled sweetly when Peter admitted he was glad she was here. "I am very glad to be here. I miss my brothers and sisters, but it is better for me here." Then she looked puzzled. "I have not asked Arva for my wings. I am uncertain if she could do that."

Peter nodded, "Well I suppose not, but it's still a bit unfair and frankly a bit rude to treat you that way, but I get it. I mean I don't, but I get that it happened and there's nothing to be done about it now. Well, except maybe the Arva thing. I don't see why you can't at least ask, even if she can't do it, it's worth a shot."

He shrugged and then raised a brow, "Why do you feel it's better for you to be here? Besides all the family fighting?"

He would have to have met any member of her family to understand that this was the least rude thing they've ever done.

"There is no war here," Lailah said with a smile. "No hate. No anger. I am at peace here. Happy. And I can make a difference here. Bring Nephilim into existence again. It is good here."

Peter nodded with a smile, and let out a breath, "It's been almost a whole month and I have yet to fight or punch anyone in the face, haven't had to stop the world from being destroyed. Truly, it's a blessing. My hands don't know what to do with themselves. I'm going crazy with joy just thinking about it."

He laughed, then raised a brow, "I uh... wait, Nephilim? Okay, you got me. What is that?"

Lailah giggled with a bright smile on her face. She liked hearing him laugh. He had a good laugh.

"The children of angels and humans. They are very strong and have free will like the humans do. My Father disapproved of them and killed them all."

Peter blinked and laughed, "Alright, children of humans and angels. Well if this place has anything to do about it, and as absolutely beautiful as you are, I can guarantee that's coming about..." He then blinked and stared at her, mouth agape, "He -- what?! Good... God, that -- that phrase feels oddly inaccurate now. And wrong. Uh, yea, wow. I'm glad you're here, really glad now. Super glad."

Lailah blushed for the compliment but smiled with a solid look at Peter. "Thank you. This vessel is very popular."

Her smile softened. "My Father was strict, but I am sure He had His reasons."

Peter laughed, "Vessel? Oh now you're telling me you're possessing that body. Of course you are, it wouldn't be a day in the life of Peter Parker if one of my friends wasn't doing something completely incredible and unexpected. And I'm not surprised she's popular, or you're popular. Were I a lesser man, I'd likely be spending my whole time flirting and not talking with substance."

He then frowned a bit at her words, "Maybe... I guess. Though I can't imagine why."

"You are. You've talked this long and haven't rolled your eyes once, that's pretty much all it takes to be my friend. I have low standards," He grinned and then shrugged, "That's me being sarcastic. I assume if flirting's hard, sarcasm might be as well."

He then let his smile grow, "So what is it you wanted to teach me?"

"Well I guess we were just going to kind of talk, and who knows, maybe you have some advice on it or something, who knows," He shrugged then looked at her, smirking a bit, "It's going to be really hard talking out loud about this with someone I barely know. And me, being speechless, damn."

He shook his head then thought a bit, "I guess the number one thing I need to get used to, is that being Spider-Man is no longer necessary, really. I can finally just be Peter Parker. I've never been able to do that before..."

He raised a brow in her direction, "And the idea of being so open with my sex life that I'm meant to have multiple partners. I've only ever been with one woman at a time in my life, several relationships sure, but all of them were long ones, and monogamous."
