WHO: Lydia Martin & Reese Williams
WHERE: The beach and then moving inland
WHEN: Shortly after arriving
WHAT: Meeting up in person
WARNINGS: None
STATUS: Complete

i'll do what i want, 'cause this is my life, right here. right now.

Well. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Lydia had expected to be taken from home and meet loads of new people, try new things, learn new things, and finally be able to make a difference that ended in life rather than death. Apparently, half of the pack had the same idea. Moreover, they weren't even from the same time as she was — she had no idea how that worked and thinking about it made her head hurt. So Lydia focused on one of the important things. Meeting up with her friends would come when it came because they had fresh water. Reese was offering shelter. That was two out of three necessities and Lydia wasn't going to look a gorgeous gift horse with an Australian accent in the mouth.

So, she gathered up the supplies she'd found nearby and headed toward the sound of waves crashing on rocks, finding the beach after about a five minute walk. She couldn't have been too far in the jungle, then, she realized. So that was something, at least.

Lydia moved toward the water's edge, taking her sandals off and letting her feet sink into the wet sand as she looked around for the man named Reese. This place was incredible. Once they all got over the initial hump, she thought, of adjusting...Lydia had a feeling, deep down, that they could make this thing amazing. She really hoped that she was right.

When she saw him approaching, Lydia turned a little and shielded her eyes with the sun, calling out to him from the short distance. "Are you Reese?" It was hard to see with the glare, so it was worth double checking, she thought.

Reese had made his way down to the beach after talking to Lydia on the network. She'd looked absolutely beautiful in her picture, and more than that, she needed his help. Reese was one of those guys who needed to be needed. He liked acting chivalrous, helping girls out and protecting them in any way that he possibly could. It wasn't much, but it was the only way he could think of to make if for the crime that had caused him to be born. He couldn't help but feel guilty, even if he hadn't - and never would - rape someone. He felt almost as if there was some sort of cosmic scorecard keeping track of his good and bad deeds, and he'd had the luck to be born in the red.

He heard the crash of the waves and smelled the salt before he saw the beach, but as soon as he came out of the Forest, he saw Lydia standing on the beach.

She was, quite possibly, the prettiest girl he'd ever seen. Her picture on the network was ridiculously inadequate, and Reese felt his breath catch in his throat for a moment before he got control.

"I'm Reese," he said with a nod, his strong Audtralian accent confirming it. "And you're Lydia?"

Hearing the accent in his answer back was enough confirmation to get Lydia moving forward to meet him in the middle. He was hot in his picture. ...he was hotter up close. Lydia, without realizing she was even doing it, started preening a little as she walked, her fingers brushing themselves through her long, red hair.

"That's me," she affirmed with a smile. When she was close enough, she let her hands fall away from her hair and held one out for him to shake. "It's nice to meet you for real," she told him with a bright smile.

It was almost a shame that it was a first meeting and they had important things like food, water, and shelter to be concerned with just then because she bet herself she could climb him like a tree. There would be plenty of time for that, though, she figured. "My friends, apparently, are here. From home. They found fresh water...do you want to come? I didn't realize they were here, but since they've already found step one to survival in the jungle, I probably shouldn't pass that up," she said. Her smile fell a little. A large part of her actually kind of wanted to, needed to distance herself from them for a little while until she was more comfortable with the idea of them being here for this project when she hadn't expected anyone she knew to be around. It sort of threw a giant wrench in the way she planned to carry herself and function in this project.

That little bit of preening was obnoxiously attractive, and Reese shifted his weight a little, sliding his hands into his back pockets. This was definitely going to be an interesting - and very pleasant - experience if she was an example of the girls they had here.

He cleared his throat, realizing that survival was, in fact, more important than his libido at the moment. And anyway, he wanted to get to know her a little bit before they took that step. Reese wasn't really the kind of guy who just jumped into bed with girls he barely knew.

"That sounds great," he said. "There's nobody from back home here, so I was planning to just set stuff up by myself. But it's better to be with a - " He nearly said 'pack', but stopped himself. "It's better to be with a group."

Giving him a warm smile, Lydia nodded. "Well, good. Safety in numbers and all that," she replied. Subtly, Lydia was trying to size him up. If she was going to be here, she was going to strategically plan her specific contributions to the gods and it didn't hurt to evaluate potential mates to that effect. Reese looked like a good option. Time would tell for sure.

"So, should we head that way?" she asked, lifting her eyebrows. "Before we have to worry about losing the light, I mean?"

Reese wasn't even a little bit worried about 'losing the light'. He could see in the dark as well as he could during the day, but he wasn't going to blurt out that he was a werewolf to someone he just met. He wasn't that stupid. That would be a really quick way to mess up a good thing.

"Sure," he said, waving a hand to let her go ahead of him. "So you've got a lot of friends here, right? Sure they won't mind if I stay with them?"

He couldn't help but watch her as she walked; everything about her was utterly graceful and beautiful.

His first question gave way to a feeling of general discomfort. The thing was that, while it was nice to know that there were people here she knew she could trust, if Lydia had known that the gods and goddesses were cherry picking through Beacon Hills High School, she would have passed on the project. The point had partially been to get away from everything and clear her head for a while. That was now going to be completely impossible and to add insult to injury, they were all from different points in time, so that was even worse.

"Yeah, I guess I do. I don't think they'll mind. I told them I was going to bring you and they didn't seem to, anyway," she replied, looking over at him and forcing a little smile. "If you want to, that is."

Reese could tell the smile was faked; actually he could even smell the slight discomfort in the air. Sometimes werewolf noses were amazingly annoying, and told him a lot of things that he didn't want to know. Had he made her feel that way? Had he done something wrong, to offend her? He felt his heartbeat increase, hoping that he hadn't. He liked Lydia. Whether as someone who he might do things with later, or just as a friend, he liked her. And he didn't want to think that he'd been able to scare her away so quickly.

"Yes, of course I want to," he said, reaching down to take her hand and squeezing it gently before letting go.

Feeling him take her hand, even if it was just to give it a squeeze and let go, made Lydia give a more genuine smile. He was sweet. ...and either unwittingly intuitive or genuinely intuitive. Being surrounded by werewolves made Lydia question those things all the time now — intuition or sense of smell?

"Okay, good, I was kind of hoping you'd say that," she admitted, nodding forward and taking his hand again, because why not? It was kind of endearing. Lydia took a deep breath and huffed it out in a long-suffering sigh that ended in a soft laugh. "Let's go find the rest of my hometown, then, since apparently the gods and goddesses have a thing for Beacon Hills," she said, a little smirk on her face.

"Maybe you're just all amazing people," he said, and although it was a cheesy thing to say, there was a sense of sweetness and sincerity behind it that made it...well, if not completely okay, at least less cheesy. Reese genuinely did care, and it didn't hurt anything that Lydia was absolutely beautiful.

"But yeah, I do want to stay with you." He could tell her that it was strange to be all by himself, that it wasn't natural for werewolves, but they had a strong code of secrecy, and he wasn't going to break that. He was used to something like that endangering both of their lives. "As friends, of course." Or more. But he was going to leave that in her court.

"Well, that might be a little bit of a stretch, but they obviously saw something in us, so I guess that's something," Lydia half-agreed.

Lydia could understand not wanting to start out in a new place completely alone. It was why, before she realized that her friends were here, she had latched onto someone to meet up with; she hadn't wanted to start out in this new world alone, either, so she didn't question it.

The latter bit that he tacked on got him another smile. "We'll have to see about the friends bit," she teased with a wink. "Come on, let's go."

That froze Reese in his steps for a second, and he swallowed before taking another step forward. The idea of sleeping with someone as beautiful as Lydia was both amazing and terrifying. Amazing because...well, because hell, look at her. Terrifying because, well, it had been kind of a long time for him, and he didn't want to end up with another nightmare like the one Danielle had turned his life into.

Although he was pretty sure something like that couldn't happen here.

"Yeah," he said. "I think I hear them up over the hill." Sensitive hearing was a godsend when it came to finding your way somewhere. A little nervously, and very tentatively, he reached down to take her hand again.

"Come on."
