Who: Everyone Bring Your Own Thread
What: Housewarming Party
When: Friday Night
Where: Chloe and Finnick’s new cabin
Warnings: TBD but probably none
Status: OPEN/Incomplete

Their cabin was finished! Or at least finished enough Chloe and Finnick could move in. They were having a housewarming party the night before they usually had a bonfire. This was a milestone not just for the soon to be parents, but for the island community. Maybe soon they could build a cabin for other people. It would go faster too, now that they had experience putting one together.

Chloe was still packing up her stuff in the old shelter she shared with Finnick. Not being able to bend too easily and growing suddenly tired made moving their stuff something way outside her normal OCD tendencies. It was driving her nuts!

“Finnick?” she called out in exasperation from where she was looking in corners. “Have you seen the pillows? There’s that one that I shove between my knees when my back hurts and it’s the only one I don’t want to lose.”

The cabin was (mostly) done and they were moving in! Finnick had already gotten Scott to help him move the bed over, and since they didn't have any other real furniture in the shelter the rest of the moving should be a snap. Or so he thought. They needed to get over to the cabin and finish setting up for the party but for some reason it was taking much longer than he would have expected to pack and move their few belongings.

"Huh?" He asked distractedly as he was putting their spare linens into a basket. "Oh, I'm pretty sure we moved all the pillows when we moved the bed. It's already at the new house." He picked up the basket, which was only half full. "Is there anything else you want to put in here before I carry it over?" He asked.

"My laptop is already over there and set up with the speakers for the music," she answered then sighed as she straightened up. "I think that's it."

Her baby bump was getting bigger almost every day. Chloe rubbed her hands over it unconsciously as she turned a smile to Finnick.

"This is it. No more shelter."

"Great, then we're ready to go." He said with a smile, holding the basket.

"Yeah, no more shelter." He said almost wistfully. This had been their home for the past two months. He'd lived here with Chloe as long as he had lived in his first shelter. Their baby had been conceived here. It would always be a special place for that reason. "It will still be here. We can come visit it sometime if you want." He said with a grin.

But now their new house was waiting for them and he was sure they would make a ton of great memories there too.

"Hush, you," Chloe said with a good natured grumble as she swatted Finnick on the arm. "Don't make fun."

Change. Chloe handled it better than some, but this felt like leaving an old friend, or having to throw out a pair of shoes that were really comfortable but were worn out.

"It's going to be weird waking up without having a wall right next to the bed."

Christine was having a very good day. For one thing, she woke up in a bed and that made her extremely happy. The mattress on the ground had been fine but now that she and Barry had decided to have a child together, it would so much easier on her when she was further into her pregnancy and getting off the floor would be a challenge. For another thing, the medical center had been gifted with some books which would be helpful for the entire community and book nerd that she was, Christine had spent most of the morning going through them and bookmarking places that would be particularly helpful for people who might stop by.

Tonight it was time to celebrate though. She'd watched the progress on the cabin and was happy that it was almost done. Finnick and the other guys had put a lot of work into it and it looked great. A few people were arriving as she walked up and she greeted the ones she knew. She was glad for the distraction of the gathering, it kept her from being nervous about what she and Barry were doing. It wasn't that she was afraid she'd made a bad decision, she knew that she hadn't, it was simply the fact that it was a big step even if they weren't going to raise the baby. Everything would be fine, she told herself, so she was going to enjoy this evening.

Isaac didn't know Finnick or Chloe, but they'd invited everyone, and it seemed to be the happening thing tonight. He hadn't had anything (or anyone) else to do tonight, so he'd showed up, kind of lingering in the corner. He didn't really know anyone who wasn't from home (he was too new), and he felt a bit awkward hanging out at some stranger's housewarming party.

When the woman walked by, he forced a smile (something he was really good at, after what he'd lived through).

"Hey," he smiled. "You know them? The couple who lives here, I mean."

She turned when she heard the voice and looked at the person who'd spoken. He must be new, she thought since she recalled seeing him on the network but hadn't actually run into him. "I do," she replied."I'm Christine, the nurse practitioner at the medical center. I end up meeting everyone sooner or later if they're having a baby." Although she'd met Finnick right after she'd arrived.

"Are you new? I don't believe I've seen you before," she said. "what's your name?"

Octavia felt a little awkward about showing up at the housewarming party for a couple when she had slept with one of them, but the invitation was open to everyone on the island and she knew that it would be a good opportunity to meet Nick. Honestly, the response to her post mentioning that she might be ready to think about contributing to the project by having a baby for Arva had caught her off guard. She definitely didn't want to make a hasty decision about who to father her child, even though she wasn't interested in keeping it.

When she got the cabin, she stood in the corner awkwardly, looking for either someone she knew or Nick to talk to. The population of the island wasn't all that large, so it shouldn't take too long to find someone. And maybe she'd even make new friends.

Pepper wanted to go to the cabin, just to view it and see if she could get any ideas. She didn't want to copy anything, she just wanted to upgrade her shelter a little bit to make a cozy home for herself, Wedge, and their baby. Mostly she just wanted to make sure the baby would have a safe place to sleep nearby and that the place wouldn't come down around them. A proper bed was in order as well.

It was truly lovely and homey inside, and Pepper looking for a familiar face spied a lonely soul in the corner looking very much out of place and she wandered over, not wanting anyone to feel left out. It was the same girl who had mentioned that she wanted to conceive. They at least that that much in common. "Octavia? Right? Beautiful name."

"Thank you," Octavia said. "My brother named me after Augustus's sister." It was one of the many fond memories she had of Bellamy that was overshadowed by his complacency in Pike's actions that directly resulted in Lincoln's death. She hadn't shared stories about her world publicly yet, so she knew that the reference to a sibling wouldn't have the same meaning to this woman as it would to anyone from the Ark.

She smiled, wishing that she could remember the redhead's name but failing and feeling guilty about it. "And I'm so sorry, but I don't recall your name," she admitted.

It didn't escape Nick's notice that this was a huge step for the community. As goofy and irresponsible as he came across he was far less than that in reality. Finnick and Chloe were good people. He was glad to have lent a hand to help build their new home, but his help hadn't been entirely altruistic. He had paid attention to how everything went together, what was needed, where they screwed up. It wasn't that he wanted a cabin of his own, but someone else would.

Tonight was about celebrating the accomplishment, however, and maybe a hook up. Nick kept his eye out for Octavia. She seemed pretty cool, was gorgeous and interested in sleeping with him so when he spotted her he stepped up behind her. "Hey."

Nick was even better looking in person than he was in his little network picture and Octavia greeted him with a friendly smile. "Hi," she said. There was no reason to feel awkward about this. The whole point of meeting him in person was to see if they clicked. If they didn't, there was no harm done. If nothing else, they could be friends, though Octavia was already curious to see what he looked like without a shirt.

"This is a pretty nice party," she said. Parties weren't a frequent thing on the Ark and even when they did happen, she wasn't able to go. Until the one time she did and everything fell apart.

Finnick and OTA
[info]dist4_finnick
2016-07-15 07:00 pm UTC (link)
The cabin was done, or as done as it could be for now, they were all moved in, and ready to entertain guests. There was food- Finnick had boiled a big bucket of shrimp- and music provided by Chloe's lap top.

The cabin was the result of over two months hard work and he was proud to show it off. It wasn't fancy, but it was a real house, with log walls, a brick chimney and fireplace, and a strong roof. It had two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, living room and a loft. The floors were finished hardwood, as was the paneling on the interior walls which matched the stacked log exterior walls. The kitchen and bathroom weren't quite done yet, mainly because they didn't have running water hooked up, but pretty much everything else was. It wasn't just a shelter, it was a home they could be comfortable living in for years and raising their child in.

He'd learned a lot building it and could use that knowledge to help others in the future. He'd also had a lot of help from other people, and he was determined to pay them back, or pay it forward, or both.

The door was open so people were free to wander in and out. There wasn't much furniture inside yet. Just their bed in the larger of the two bedrooms and a simple table and two chairs where the dining area would be. There was also a porch swing on the front porch. It hadn't been that difficult for Finnick to build a bench with a back and then attach it to the porch ceiling with some heavy chain from the building supplies. Given the climate, he could imagine that they would spend a lot of time sitting out on the porch. The house was positioned so that the porch would be in the shade in the afternoon.

Even though it had been difficult to give the babies to Arva, Stiles was handling their loss a lot easier than Malia was. He hadn't been sure if she'd be up to attending Chloe and Finnick's party, especially since they were planning to keep their child and raise it themselves, but he wanted to at least make an appearance and check out their new house. Malia did agree to go with him, but he promised her that if she wanted to leave early, they could.

He was incredibly impressed by what Finnick and the others managed to accomplish with their limited resources. It really did look like an actual house. Hopefully, over time, they'd be able to build more of them and be a real town. "Dude, this place is awesome," he said, wandering over to Finnick when he spotted his friend alone. "You guys did a great job."

Finnick had gone to see Malia, Stiles, and the babies shorty after they were born, but other than that he hadn't seen them much lately. He hadn't be avoiding them, exactly, but he knew that giving the babies away would be very difficult. There was nothing he could say to make it easier for them, and a very real chance that in his enthusiasm over being a father shortly himself, he would inadvertently say something to make it worse. He had decided that the best thing was just to give them some privacy to make the difficult choice.

He was really glad to see them out socializing again and especially to see Stiles at the party. "Thanks, man." He said with a wide grin. "I couldn't have done it without a ton of help from a bunch of people, Scott most of all. He has almost as much time invested in this place as I do. And we both learned a lot from the process too. I had some skills from helping my dad build things and repair boats back in District 4, but until now I'd never built anything larger than a shed by myself, so this was a big, kind of scary job when we started. But I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and we can definitely put what we've learned to use in the future building other things."

The place was nice, Link decided when he walked in. The music was a bit odd for him, if only because it sounded weird, and was coming from a place he couldn't quite figure out. He'd eventually discovered it was somehow coming from the laptop, which he also didn't know what it was, and found himself lightly poking at the back of it with a furrow in his brow, wondering how it was doing what it was doing. He'd seen machines make music before, but they drew on the wind, and didn't have voices coming from it.

Shaking his head, he moved away and decided to take his roost up near the corner of the cabin with eyes scanning the room. He was new, and besides Natasha, hadn't really met anyone face to face quite yet. He'd talked to a few on the network, but he knew others were busy with getting their stuff set up and moving and stuff like this, plus the children. Himself? Link was far better at fighting and farming, and so had thrown himself into trying to help with the animal work, but otherwise was trying to learn how to help, rather than immediately getting in the way.

Not knowing anyone made the party a bit less simple, so he figured he'd hold back and see if anyone came to him before trying to mingle himself. He'd gone without the sword and the shield for once, finally feeling there was no place to really run for a thief who might try to steal them. Also, he was pretty certain the Master Sword wouldn't respond to anyone really. Though he really wasn't that sure of that either.

Link & Sydney

Even though she'd loosened up considerably in the nearly four months that she'd been on the island, Sydney still wasn't the most outgoing or social person and her instinct was to stick to the fringes of a group. The house that Finnick and the others built was amazing and exploring it appealed to her architectural senses. In some ways, it was primitive like the structures in Ancient Greece and Rome that she loved, but it was also far more modern in other ways.

After satisfying her curiosity for the building itself, she cast her gaze around to the party goers. With Chloe's laptop playing music, it was hard to remember that they were on a tropical island that had nothing a short time ago. It was easy to imagine that she was in a modern city, at the kind of Alchemist gatherings that always made her uncomfortable growing up.

Shaking off those thoughts, she spotted one of the newer arrivals and decided to introduce herself. She knew how overwhelming it could be when you first arrived here and, based on the conversation she'd seen between him and Natasha on the network, it seemed like he might be a lot more like her than most of the others. "Hi, Link, right? I'm Sydney."

Link leaned back against the wall, watching the people meander about here and there, a light smile on his face as he enjoyed it all. There was a distance in his demeanor though; this wasn't usually the thing. Celebrations had occurred after Ganon's defeat, but he'd used it as a shadow to sneak out under, and had ridden off into the night before anyone could notice. He knew his descendants had done similar things as he'd done. He knew why he felt compelled to do those things, but he wasn't sure why he did them anyway.

His reverie was snapped away, thankfully, when he spotted a young woman walking up towards him. Sydney. He didn't know her yet, but that didn't stop a smile coming to his face as she approached, and he stood up a bit straighter, "Oh, yea. Uh... hi Sydney. Yea it's Link."

Wearing his usual, but thankfully clean, green tunic and green Phyrgian hat, covering most of his blonde hair besides the bits that escaped beneath. He looked around the room, then back towards her, "It's good to meet you. Sorry if I seem a bit stand offish over here, I'm just not used to this sort of... gathering or scene."

Cisco walked into the cabin and looked around. It was nice, he thought, everyone had done a good job on it. Since he'd been back, he'd run into a few people that he'd known before and he'd been glad that he had retained his memories. It made for a much less awkward situation than it could have. he'd even gotten his old shelter back which was good sine he'd worked his ass off on it. There had been a few things changed but they actually improved the place so he was good with it. Now he just had to hope that the gods gave him back his bed. That would be nice.

He still couldn't believe that Finnick and Chloe were having a baby or that Barry was making a baby possibly at that very moment and no....not gonna go there. Instead he looked around for something to drink and found it. Sure it was water but it was better than nothing so he took some and found a wall to lean against and watch the crowd.

Of course Lustre had come to Finnick's party. He was one of her dearest friends from back home, and she wouldn't have missed it for the world. She also considered Chloe a friend, and given that she'd slept with both of them since arriving here, she was pretty sure that was returned.

It felt weird showing up without a gift, but what could she possibly give them? She was willing to help babysit and that sort of thing, but it wasn't like there was a store here where she could buy them a candle or something.

She'd just grabbed a drink and was waiting her turn to talk to Chloe and Finnick when she noticed a cute guy she hadn't seen before.

"Hey there."

For a minute, Cisco wondered if she were talking to him or if someone else had come up behind him. He resisted the temptation to turn around though and just accept that this beautiful creature was actually talking to him.

"Hey," he said with a smile. "Having a good time?" Which was probably a dumb thing to say but he couldn't think of anything else at the moment and it was an acceptable thing to say at a party after all.

Lailah wasn't certain what a housewarming party was, but listening to people talk about it filled her in swiftly enough. She thought it was a delightful idea, and wanted to wish the happy couple and soon to be parents well.

She showed up wearing one of the simple sundresses that had been made for her and an excited smile on her face. Every little bit of the cabin was looked upon with open curiosity, which included her getting down on her knees to peer into corners. Father, I know you don't hear me anymore, but if you do now, please bring love and peace to this place.

They were having a girl. Maria was a bit stymied by the idea of having a girl. And more than a little petrified, but she took comfort in the fact that she wouldn't be raising her and screw her up as badly as her dad had screwed her up. It was still weird to think she was going to give birth to a little her.

But today was about Finnick and Chloe. Just as when the other birth announcements came and Maria had kept her mouth shut about her own, she used this event to keep her own news behind her teeth. But she did come to see the cabin and wish them luck.

After speaking for a while with the lovely Octavia and leaving her in the safe hands of Nick to get to know him better, she spotted Maria. Just the person she wanted to see because she wanted to share her almost certain happy news. Pepper was light in step and smiling happily as she scooted up next to her best friend and put an arm around her.

"Hi." Her voice was light and happy. "How's Bruce and Baby Nick?"

Maria smiled easily enough to see her best friend. "Hey," she said then smirked for the question. Her voice was lowered as she leaned in so no one would overhear. "Bruce is fine, but Baby Nick is now Baby Nicole."
