WHO: Natasha and OTA (Multiples welcome)
WHERE: The beach
WHEN: Thursday July 7
WHAT: Swimming, picking up seashells
WARNINGS: None yet but will adjust if needed
STATUS: Complete

I swear I won't tease you won't tell you no lies.

Natasha had spent most of the day helping in the garden. She'd enjoyed herself but it had been hard work. Not that she minded hard work, it kept her mind off things. Like why it seemed that everyone here was having sex and she wasn't. Pepper had told her that she needed to be more open to people, not appear so closed off and she knew her friend was right but that wasn't easy for Natasha. She was too used to keeping her true self hidden, presenting a front to the world but that would get her nowhere here. She needed to be herself but there were times when she had no idea who that was.

When she'd gotten back to her shelter, she'd decided to take a dip in the ocean. Since she had not bathing suit, she stripped down to her sports bra and underwear and went in that way. She wasn't ashamed of her body and skinny dipping didn't bother her and while she was willing to be more open, she wasn't ready to be that open yet.

She had lost track of time while she was playing in the waves and it felt good to enjoy herself, laugh, just being herself and not worrying about who might be watching. When she tired of that, she walked along the shore, picking up sea shells and was studying one that she'd found when she walked right into someone. "Oh shit," she said, looking up. "I'm sorry, i was staring at a sea shell."

Link was exploring his new home, feeling a bit distant and alone, but not in such a way that he felt bad about it. After all, being alone was what he'd always been ever since Midna had come into his life and the Twilight Realm attacked. When he connected with the Triforce of Courage for the first time, he'd been connected with all of his incarnations throughout time, coming to understand just what his place in time was on Hyrule, and as such had come to learn he was always destined to be the lone traveler. It was why he agreed so easily to volunteering for this mission. He had no one who was attached to him at home, it made sense for him to do it. Further, it gave him something to fight for, live for, after accomplishing what he'd already been 'created' for.

Link's exploration of the Island, due to his lacking of a shelter at the moment, had lead to him not leaving his gear behind and so as he walked along the beach he continued to wear his thick boots, green tunic over chain mail and white under shirt. As well as his gauntlets, and of course sword and shield on his back--very rarely was he far from those. A couple of other attachments hanging from his belt as well.

Link actually had come to find himself standing against the edge of the beach, looking out at the ocean, thinking about Ilia, Zelda, and Midna; lost enough in his thoughts he wasn't even aware of Natasha's approach until she walked into him causing him to stumble to the side a bit, waving his hands to try and keep his balance before finally catching it and looking over to her.

He waved his hands, "No, no no, I wasn't even paying attention. I'm sorry, I was off in my own little world."

Her first thought was that the guy had to be burning up. He was wearing way too many clothes for this place but she couldn't think of a polite way to say it without it sounded like a come on. "Oh good, I was studying this sea shell," she said and held it up. "Not that I'm a huge shell collector but there isn't a lot to do around here once you've finished work for the day so yeah. You must be new. Which is pretty obvious since you're wearing chain mail? Am I right? How are you standing the heat?"

What the hell, she'd decided. The last thing she wanted was a new arrival to drop at her feet because of heat stroke. "I'm Natasha," she told him. "I've been here for a couple of weeks now. Have you run into anyone else yet?"

Link looked at her, and at the shell, then back to her and smiled as he nodded, "I had a few friends who liked to collect things. She kind of got me into it as well. There was one girl, little rich girl from Castle Town, that wanted me to catch bugs for her on my travels and bring them back; she particularly wanted them in pairs, female and male, strange little girl. But she was definitely into it."

He frowned at that, "Not that collecting is weird, I collect a few things too--or, well I did."

Looking down at his outfit, then back to her, he smirked, "Yea, I'm Link and I'm new. Just got here really, and the heat's not so bad. This thing breathes pretty easily. Wore it all through a vast desert, it's pretty light and the cloth does well enough. Though it is much warmer here, much more humid than the desert."

"And no, I've not really run into anyone else quite yet... But it's a pleasure to meet you Natasha." Holding his hand out towards her to shake.

She took his hand and shook it, smiling up at him. For some reason the name Link sounded familiar but she had no idea why. "It's okay, no offense taken." He seemed nice enough and she knew that this place could be a little overwhelming at first. She'd just been lucky and had friends here already.

"Well let me show you around a little bit. The main camp is back that way," she pointed in the direction from which she'd come. "The big building in the middle, the only one that is completely finished actually is the Medical Center. That's kind of the first stop for everybody. There are usually people around who can help you get some things, find you a place to stay, clothes whatever you need." she started back that way, assuming he would follow. "there are temporary shelters close by and most newcomers take one of them until they can build their own but some just stay. We've had a few people leave recently so there are some empty ones." She had to fight the sigh that nearly came out at the though of Bucky and Steve. She missed them but she understood why they'd felt the need to go home and really it was probably for the best.

Link returned the handshake and the smile, nodding at her not taking offense to his statement on collecting. Falling in step with her, then, he seemed pleased with the idea of her showing him around, "Seems like a good building to get built up first I suppose. Or at least finished first. I've built a couple of homes before, even carved one out for myself in my tree back home."

When she mentioned clothes, he blinked, goodness he had nothing with him in terms of that. Yea he'd have to work on getting clothes. He doubted his tunic would suffice all of the time. He then smirked, "Oh, good, well I'll probably take one of those ones up before I can get one of my own built. And why did they leave? I mean, I imagine the task of being left with a small group of people without the stuff you're used to from home, away from family and loved ones, can get to people so I assume that's why the people left, but they weren't kicked out or something were they?"

He was a bit curious just how the 'laws' of the land worked, if there really were any at all. He remembered hearing about how there necessarily weren't, but also figured some might have been established eventually.

"Where are you originally from, if you don't mind talking about it."

"Well you're one up on a lot of us. I've had a lot of military type training but I've never built a shelter. Not one that's meant to be permanent anyway." She could manage a lean to alone but thankfully she hadn't had to. "Everyone's good about helping though. The people who've been here the longest know what to do and they're happy to help the new arrivals."

His question was a valid one and Natasha thought for a minute about how best to answer it. "I think everyone has different reason," she finally said. "We all have different reasons for volunteering to come here as well. I think some people get here and maybe rethink their decision? Being tasked with rebuilding a society and repopulating it can be a daunting task when you stop to think about. I've heard that others just get homesick and want to go back to their normal lives." she shrugged. "some come back too so it's really different for everyone."

She paused for a moment and looked up at him. "I might as well tell you this because you're going to hear it. People call this Sex Island because one of the things we're supposed to be doing is having children, part of the whole repopulation thing. Although Arva would have told you that. But seriously it's not like people are just having sex in front of each other all the time or anything like that." Or in Natasha's case, having sex at all but she wasn't about to say that.

"Well I never served in the military. Helped out with a few of the Royal Guards, and was able to help the Princesses out, but never served there. I learned to build homes in my village, it was part of living I guess. It wasn't too much different than this, for us, lived off the land and built what you could. Castle Town was where the markets and civilization really was," He fell continued to walk along with her, smirking, "Well you seem helpful enough for a new comer, so I think you may be right there."

He shrugged, "It makes sense, homesickness is something I imagine a lot of people could easily go through here. At least it's very nice here, pretty, with good company. It can't be that bad, but nothing will ever be better than home I guess."

Laughter met him a moment later and he nodded, "Arva was very clear on that, and I understood when I accepted what it meant exactly. I've already heard some people call it that, and it's a bit amusing I guess. I uh, never really had the experience back at home. Not shy or embarrassed about it, really, I unfortunately had a lot come up. So I just hope I can, as we say, do my part."

He laughed again, shrugging his shoulders, "It's part of repopulation, and accepted and agreed to it. How do you like it here? Hard to adjust?"

He was a virgin? That was interesting, she thought. Natasha wondered if anyone else had come to the island a virgin. If they had, it was doubtful they'd stayed that way very long. "I do like it here. It's a lot different from what I'm used to. At home I was always busy, always doing something so there's more down time here than I'm used to but I also am notorious for not taking much time off."

She'd often been teased by her friends that she didn't know the meaning of a vacation and maybe she didn't but she always got the job done. "It does take a little getting used to especially the whole thing of no modern conveniences but it is what it is."

Link smiled at the comment, walking with her, pleased to know the place seemed to be easy enough to live with. Shrugging as they walked, he looked over towards her with a light smile and just nodded, "I'm busy too from home. In the village, growing up, I was always milking cows, or getting the herd, or odd jobs here or there, but always keeping busy. Things really amped up later though, and I really haven't stopped being on the 'job' as you might say for the better part of a few months, maybe even a year. I lost count of time eventually..."

He trailed off with a sigh and frown, missing some of his friends, but knew it had to be done. He raised a brow at the modern conveniences part, "What do you mean by modern conveniences?"

Natasha looked up at him when he mentioned cows. "You can milk cows? Oh man, that's great! We have a cow and some goats but no one who's really great at milking them. Talk to Finnick, he's been here the longest and tell him that you've got experience with animals. No one is really in charge here but he's always a huge help to new people. He's probably somewhere around, we might run into him."

She had attempted to milk a goat and it had not gone well. It was definitely not one of Natasha's finer moments and she was glad that no one had seen it. She'd never have lived it down. "We've got chickens too. Well we're one short on those since we ate it but we've got more."

"I'm actually not completely terrible at it either. I mean, I did it most of my life, but some of the other farmers were a bit better. I did a great job of herding though, Epona and I worked really, really well together in that department," Link offered with a smile and continued on his way with her, looking at her a moment and tilting his head, "Finnick and I have chatted a tiny bit already I think. I think I can be of great help to him."

Link thought about that as they moved and nodded, "Actually, chicks grow fast into chickens, so if you can manage to get them to lay some eggs, you have a recurring assortment of food, including the eggs at that."

"I had a friend that was here and the chickens were his but he's gone now. :He showed me how to get the eggs and I've done it but it's not my thing," she shook her head. It had just felt weird to Natasha. "but if you can do it, that would be great. their coop is not too far form my shelter."

They had reached the main part of the camp and Natasha stopped and looked up at him. "If you've been on the network at all, you've probably spoken to Finnick. He usually greets everyone. It sounds like you can do a lot of things that will be useful. I hope you like it here." He seemed like a good guy and he wanted to help so that was good.

"It sounds like, from my limited conversations, that the animal parts of it all are the most difficult and need the most help. I'm fine to offer my expertise there. It's either that or fighting, and fighting seems to be lacking any real need here, at least so far, and hopefully far into the future," He smiled as they came to stop near the camp. He looked over to her and his smirk grew, "Near your shelter? Good. It'll be nice to have a reference point."

He nodded, "Yea, I've talked to him. He seems like a good guy, and I do have some uses. Though, again, it's mostly farming, and then a lot of combat related abilities that might not be all that useful."

"Hey, every little bit helps," she said. "we all have to pitch in together. I have fighting skills too but I hope I never have to use them. I'm pretty sure that there isn't anyone else on the island save the people Arva invited." At least she hadn't run into anyone which was good.

"Sounds like you're set then. I'm going to get going but if you need any help with anything, look me up, I'm not hard to find." She gave him a wave and headed off toward her shelter.
