"Sure, that sounds nice," Barry agreed, pushing to his feet so they could walk towards the beach. He wasn't about to decline spending more time with Christine. Especially if it resulted in her coming home with him.

It felt good to get away from the fire and walk near the water. One of the things that she liked best about Barry was that they could say nothing at all and still enjoy being together. She had to talk to him though and if she didn't do it now, she'd never be able to do it.

"I kind of had an ulterior motive in getting you away from the crowd," she said, stopping and turning to face him. "When I told you that I came here because I'd lost someone special at home, I wasn't lying but there was more to the story than that" Christine closed her eyes for a minute and then took a deep breath before she looked at him again. "I wa pregnant and I was going to tell him that night but he was killed before I had the chance. Three days later, I lost the baby. Not long after that, Arva came to me. I agreed to come here to help with the pregnant women but I've begun to realize that I was scared. I wanted to shut down and have nothing to do with anyone because if I got pregnant I might lost it again even though I know the odds are slim since I was so stressed and that's why it happened most likely."

She looked out toward the ocean for a moment, saying nothing and then continued, taking a step forward to take his hand in hers. "I need to stop being afraid, Barry. I'm not ready to be a mother but I need to be pregnant. I want to be pregnant so I can get past this and when I'm ready to be a mom, I can concentrate on being the best mom I can be." This was it, he'd either flat out say no or he'd need time. Christine was prepared for either answer. "I want this to happen with someone that I can trust, someone who understands my reasoning and who wouldn't have a problem with me giving the baby to Arva. I'd really like for that person to be you, Barry."

Barry listened intently to Christine's story, his eyes widening and face showing genuine compassion when he realized how traumatic of an experience that must have been for her. To not only lose the man she loved, but to be expecting his child and then also lose that child? It sounded like it would have the kind of lasting impact that his losing his mother at such a young age had on him.

When she got to her question, he was actually taken aback but not in a bad way. He honestly hadn't given a lot of thought to the whole procreating aspect of being here. The building a new society, especially a better one, was important to him. And the sex was a really nice bonus, but he wasn't sure he was in any position to bring a child into the world, even though it would be a better world than the one he left behind. Being forced to consider that was not necessarily a bad thing, but he knew that he couldn't give her a definitive answer right now.

"Christine, I'm flattered," he said, reaching for her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze "I can't give you an answer right away. This is something I need to think about."

"I completely understand," she said. "It's a big decision and I thought about it for a while before I even decided that this is what I wanted." Christine believed in being honest and if they were going to do this, she was going to start from the very beginning. "I'm not in a particular hurry so you can have all the time you need. Honestly I'm glad you want to think about it first. This has to be something we're both on the same page about, I wouldn't want you to ever feel like I forced you into anything."

She'd wandered the beach for several nights after she'd decided that she wanted to do this. Barry had been one of the first people she'd talked to when she arrived and she considered him a good friend. She also knew that he would be as honest with her as she was with him. "even if you decide not to, I won't be mad so please don't worry about that. I like you and I like being with you and I wouldn't want that to stop even if we don't have a baby together."

"It is a big decision," Barry agreed. "Even if we are going to let Arva raise the baby." He would still be making some kind of commitment to Christine, at least for the three months that she was pregnant, because he wasn't going to let her go through that alone. And they would both have to live with knowing that they had a child on the island who was growing up without them.

He smiled. "I like you too," he said. "And if I am going to do this, you're someone I'd feel comfortable with." Apparently he had a thing for medical professionals - first Martha, now Christine. It made him wonder about his true feelings for Caitlin, but he shook that thought off easily.

"That's the way I look at it. I want it to be someone that I can trust enough to not worry about throwing my toes up or being moody around," she laughed. "although if it's any comfort, I didn't really have morning sickness before or maybe I wasn't pregnant long enough but hopefully I can skip that part."

She was relieved that he at least wanted to think about it. That was good and it wasn't a no. She could accept that. Stepping closer to him, she kissed him softly and when she broke the kiss, she said "Thank you. For even agreeing to think about it. That means a lot to me, no matter what you decide."

"You don't have to thank me for that," Barry assured her, resting one hand on her waist when she stepped in to kiss him. "Want to go back to my place and practice though? Make sure we've really got it down in case we decide to go forward with it?"

She tilted her head and looked at him. "You know, that's a good idea, they say that practice makes perfect. I'm definitely a fan of practice." She smiled and kissed him again. This was all going to work out and for the first time in days, she felt that she had made the right decision.
