Bonfire nights were Sydney's favorite of the week. The weekly gatherings fostered a real sense of community among the volunteers, at least in her opinion, and it was nice to take a few hours off from all the work they had to do to survive her and simply enjoy their surroundings and each other's presence. She was far more relaxed about being here now, probably at least in part because she wasn't a virgin anymore and was a little more confident with herself. Her body image issues were still there, but not quite as nagging as they used to be.

She was smiling tonight, sipping a coconut shell full of coffee and wishing, not for the first time, that the gods would eventually gift them actual cookware. Or the materials to make sturdier options than what they had at the moment. Oh well. They were making do, just like they had with everything else.

Nick, personally, was waiting for the gods to gift them with another keg, or a case of liquor. He'd gotten spoiled by that first one and had been sighing over the loss ever since they'd emptied it.

The bonfires were always fun so Nick showed up as he usually did, shirtless, just a pair of shorts with his hands stuffed into his pockets. The first person he spotted was a girl he hadn't actually ever talked to before. How did THAT happen?

He walked up to Sydney and stopped beside her with a bit of a hop. "Hi."

Even though they hadn't spoken in person, Sydney paid attention to the network and knew who all of the other volunteers were. She smiled when Nick walked up and nodded for him to sit next to her. The log where she was perched had plenty of room for another person. It might not be the most comfortable seat in the world, but it served its purpose.

"Hi," she said. "I'm Sydney. You're Nick, right?" He was cute. Really cute. And now that she considered herself a sexually liberated woman, the idea of branching out with her experiences was appealing. Not that she was going to throw herself at him, of course. She had far more decorum than that. But she would at least consider the possibility.

"That's me," Nick said as he took the invitation to sit down. She seemed sweet. Nice even. Which meant he had to tone down his personality a bit. Be less...him. So he leaned his elbows on his knees and smiled at her.

"Nice to meet you, Sydney." His smile tightened. "How is it I haven't met you yet?"

Sydney laughed a little. "Bad luck, I guess," she joked. "I spend most of my time working in the garden. And you seem more like a construction type of guy." That would definitely be part of the reason they hadn't met. Plus she got the sense that he was far more accepting of the 'sex' part of Sex Island faster than she was. That might have also had something to do with why they hadn't met. She was still somewhat shy around men in social settings, but she was definitely doing better.

"Are you enjoying your time here?" she asked. "You've been here about as long as I have, I think." Which definitely made it stranger that they hadn't met, but there were enough people coming and going that she supposed it wasn't entirely unusual.

Lailah had a dress! It was all hers, and appropriate. It was only a little longer than the tshirt had been so she wasn't entirely certain why it was more appropriate, but she was wearing it anyway and was very proud of it. It was made of white linen and very comfortable.

She had a bright smile on her face when she arrived at the bonfire, twisting a little in place to make the skirt of her sundress sway and flare. Her fingers caught at the hem, toying with it as she looked for someone to show off to.

Luke found that he really was quite enjoying this place. He'd made some friends, had some work to do and the women were attractive. There were some other things that he would have liked to have but all in all it wasn't a bad place to be. Even after so long the amount of water amazed him though, he don't think he could ever wrap his head around that. It was so cold too, it had shocked him at first but in the end he managed to get into it.

He'd come to the bonfires before but had lurked at the back talking to one or two people, going home with them or just talking it hadn't really mattered.

Tonight, he was determined to enjoy himself though.

Approaching someone who looked slightly nervous he gave them a bright smile. "Hi, I'm Luke. I don't think we've met yet?"

Lailah turned a smile to the young man that approached her. He had a gentle soul, she could tell that much right away. She approved, and that showed in her expression.

"Hello, Luke," she said. "My name is Lailah, and no. We have not met yet. Now we have." She looked down at herself as she pulled the hem of her skirt out to the sides. "Do you like my dress? It was made for me."

"That is true and an absolute pleasure it is," he said with a grin at her. There was something intriguing about her and he was always happy to meet new people. The last comment was odd but he shrugged. It could have just been a culture difference after all. "It suits you," he said with a grin. It was short and somewhat revealing but he liked it and it did suit her somewhat.

Phryne was happy with how things were going here. She was slightly surprised she had managed to be talked into helping dig the sewage system but at the same time she felt like she needed to do something else to help around. There wasn't much to do with the Med Centre and she didn't want to make clothes, that would end in a disaster. So, she was going to dig dirt for people to get plumbing, something they desperately needed.

If it worked she hopes they could get some hot water. God, she missed hot water. The conversation on the comms about the bath hadn't helped and now she was craving it. That and a good glass of alcohol.

Dressed simply, she ended up at the bonfire like she did each weekend. Nodding to a couple of people she recognised, she helped herself to a coconut of water and took a seat on one of the logs to see who would turn up. She was one of the first people there which was surprising and the others were talking to someone already.

Still shaken up by his conversation with Natasha the other day, Bruce made it a point to seek out a woman to talk to when he arrived at the weekly bonfire. Was he developing feelings for Maria? If so, he needed to figure out how to stop them. There was nothing good that could come of them, not in a place like this, and not with his history. He also doubted that Maria would be interested in any sort of commitment with him. Especially not with so many better options here. He was honestly surprised that she agreed to let him father her baby.

"Evening," he said, managing a small smile when he joined the young woman who was sitting alone. "You're Phryne, right?" He thought they had spoken on the network, but didn't recall meeting her in person yet. "I'm Bruce."

Phryne nodded to Bruce as he approached. They'd talked about the Med Centre but with how quiet things were she hadn't done much with it. Honestly her expertise wasn't of much use here though she would keep an eye on things in case she was ever needed for some reason or another.

"I am, good to meet you in person at last. I suppose I should have dropped by the med center to say hi but so many people to meet," she said with a grin.

"No need to apologize," Bruce assured her, smiling a bit wider at her grin. "Even with our small population, it takes some time to get to know everyone. We're all busy here." For a variety of definitions of the word 'busy' even, depending on the person. "At least we've gotten a chance to chat now."

She was attractive in an offbeat sort of way and Bruce was glad that he'd made the effort to speak with her this evening. He wasn't sure if she'd be interested in a hookup, but even if that wasn't an option, he was happy to get to know her better. All his years keeping to himself because of his fears over the Other Guy were still lingering and he needed to work harder to overcome those instincts and be more social here.

"That's true there is an awful lot to do here. It's a matter of of just finding something we enjoy and are good at," she shrugged. "Not much to do with the medical side at the moment and I don't know what else there is for me to do?" she asked "Apart from meet people and have sex," she added with a small laugh. "Everyone here has such interesting stories it seems a waste not to hear them all and learn what I can about them."

2016-07-03 09:15 pm UTC (link)
While she was still vaguely concerned that word of Charles' revelation and her quiet but obvious intimacy with him last week might bring some sort of confrontation with someone, Amanda was actually coming to the bonfire considerably lighter and less anxious than she normally did. She couldn't discount the effect of...whatever she had with Charles was having. Having someone to talk to who she wasn't overly concerned about scaring off with some of the more uncomfortable facts of her life--especially someone she could talk to without needing to actually speak out loud--was far more comforting than she would have expected.

And the sex was definitely helping too. She hoped it wasn't too shallow that just having someone calling her gorgeous and happily helping her learn how to be a good lover was making her feel almost as Nick's compliments on her work. Maybe better, considering there had always been that undercurrent of wanting more from Nick and frustration that he never saw it.

At any rate, she arrived at the bonfire with a smile that was so much easier than it usually was when she came to them, sitting by the fire sipping water from one of the coconut shells and just feeling and looking much more at peace than she often did.

The bonfire last week had been kind of a disaster for Finnick. He had freaked out so much over Charles' revelation that he had barely noticed that Amanda was sitting next to him, nor had he noticed them growing unusually close. So when he came to this week's bonfire, while the disaster of last week was still somewhat on his mind, he didn't associated Amanda with it.

He'd just avoided Charles all week. He wasn't terribly angry with him, although he did wish that Charles had said something sooner, he understood why he hadn't. Finnick could hardly blame Charles for having a power he'd been born with, but that didn't mean he was completely comfortable around him either.

He saw Amanda sitting alone and he decided to go and chat with her for a bit. He hadn't really talked to her much lately, and she was on his mind right now because he'd been working on the chess set. He walked over to her with a casual smile. "Is this seat taken?" He asked, indicating the patch of sand next to her.

Although she started started a bit interally, pulse jumping a bit at the worry Finnick might have thought she'd kept Charles' confidence with bad motives, seeing that he didn't look too much the worse for wear made Amanda smile. She might have known Finnick any better than anyone else here, but she knew he was kind to most everyone who was new so even if he wasn't a sort of academic she wasn't as intimidated by him as she was by some other people.

"No, sit down," she beamed warmly. "How are you? I haven't run into you in a while." Of course, he'd been building while she'd been taking care of plants. Both useful, but she wasn't going to pretend her lack of upper body strength or some other skills didn't keep her a little bit separate from other people. Well, that and several other things.

He sat down beside her with a smile. "How are you? I was thinking about you the other day. I'm almost done with the chess pieces."

She hadn't attended the previous week's bonfire even though she enjoyed them. The arrival of the babies had been a lot to process and while part of her would have liked to have gone, she knew she'd done the right thing. Also, she'd gotten to know Pepper who was becoming a good friend and Christine was happy to have a friend here. She got along with most everyone but a real friend to talk to about things, that was something she'd been missing so she was very happy to have found Pepper.

People were already starting to gather when she walked up and she looked around for a place to sit. She spotted an empty place that wasn't too close to the fire, she didn't like the heat, and settled down. Stretching her legs out in front of here, she leaned back on her hands and looked up at the sky, wondering once again exactly where they were in the galaxy or for that matter which galaxy they were in period.

Barry realized that he'd been pretty anti social lately. There wasn't a real reason for it, he just sometimes needed to retreat inside his own head for a while. If he was perfectly honest, he was considering if he should suck it up and go home to deal with Zoom once and for all. Part of him felt like he needed to, that he'd never really be able to settle here with that hanging over his head, but another part of him knew he just wasn't ready to face it. What if he failed again?

Determined to shake himself out of his funk, he headed to the bonfire and was happy to spot a familiar face. "Hey," he said, going to sit next to Christine with a smile. "How've you been?"

"Hey you," she said, returning his smile. Christine had come to really like Barry, he was a sweet guy and she had enjoyed their night together. More importantly, he was one of the people she considered a friend here. "I haven't seen you lately but things have been kind of busy."

The birth of the babies had been quite the event and now she was working on getting some records together so it seemed like she was at the Medical Center most of the time. "I think that things might settle down for a little bit, we don't have any babies due right away although who knows after that buffet." she laughed. If there hadn't been any babies conceived that week, it hadn't been for lack of trying on anyone's part.

"Yeah, that was... interesting," Barry agreed. "I feel like maybe I owe you an apology for practically mauling you when we hung out." It had been a great night, for sure, and Barry made damn sure that Christine enjoyed herself multiple times, but it was obvious that it had been fueled by some outside source.

Of course, it wasn't like he wouldn't want to hook up with her without the benefit of sex-laced cookies. She was a gorgeous woman. Also nice and friendly. In some ways, he reminded her of Caitlin, but not entirely since Cait was more like a sister than someone he would ever hook up with. Although if she showed up here, he'd probably be tempted. Probably a good thing she hadn't thus far.

Quill & OTA

Quill was never the type to turn down a party. Even if he probably should have; hell, especially if he probably should have. He'd even been known to start parties that shouldn't have happened in the first place (which had, on more than one occasion, turned out with dire, Yondu-related consequences, but that was a completely separate issue). But, there was a fire, and people, and he had literally nothing better to do with his evening right now then head out and mingle.

So he can be found hanging out where the party is, with a drink in his hand and enjoying the atmosphere. Alcohol would have been a better addition, but he didn't need it to have a good time, it was just a nice social lubricant. He's dressed down for the occasion, some of the layers left back in his new home in deference to the weather and...okay, that really just means he's in leather pants and a long sleeve shirt with a set of old-school headphones around his neck but it's less than he normally wears. Not like he's got any t-shirts handy, his only other option is leave his shirt there too and he's not that comfortable with the place yet.

Every so often he can be found jamming out to the music in his head, humming along out loud; what's a party without music, and if he can't hear any, he'll provide it himself!

Maria didn't come to the bonfires every Saturday. She wasn't exactly what could be called a party animal. She'd missed a bunch when she'd been nursing the fractured shin, and hadn't felt as if she'd missed much. Now that she wasn't hobbling as much she tried to get out more often. Pregnancy mood swings be damned!

She showed up to tonight's bonfire to see if it was a story telling night or just a gathering and spotted someone she hadn't seen before. And he was...dancing. Maria just had to know what that was about so she walked up to the new guy with a half smirk on her face.

"You're new."
