Steve’s outlook at the time had been clouded by a lot of self doubt in a lot of different ways. He’d always had an excuse about why they shouldn’t have been doing what they were. A lot of it were ideas that he’d overcome since then. Religion and society were no longer factors. But he’d never once believed that he’d been attractive or desirable in any way back then. Pity had just… made the most sense. Bucky had always tried including him in things that most people left him out of, after all.
“Okay,” Steve said, still completely unsure how to feel about all this, or what really to do with all the new information. He was fairly certain he needed to process all this for longer than the few minutes he had in order to deal with it appropriately. Now wasn’t the time though. Not yet. “Well. That’ll still happen. Look, I’m sorry if I was a jerk.”
