WHO: Chris Argent and Derek Hale
WHAT: A pair of brains are getting broken, aka two sorta friends are running into each other
WHEN: Wednesday evening
WARNINGS: So far, none
STATUS: Closed/Incomplete

As much as Chris enjoyed being around the people here, he could be a solitary creature sometimes. Not badly so, not to the point of isolation. Just to the point where he needed to get away for a little while and clear his brain. It was easy to do here, though -- there were plenty of places where you could just wander off for a little while and be with nature, and let everything go. It was a win-win on more levels than just the obvious, the purpose they were brought there for.

And when he needed that, he tended to go for the beach. It was where he'd arrived, where Isaac had found him. Isaac, who was no longer there. Who he'd had so precious little time with. But he was grateful for what time he'd had. Especially in the face of the fact that Isaac had been worried about whether or not he was dead. He was glad he'd been able to at least reassure him that that wasn't the truth before Isaac's return home. It was something, at least.

Sighing, Chris kept walking. It was a nice evening -- though weren't all evenings? Save for the times right around when he'd arrived, of course. But that had apparently been more of a freak occurrence than anything else. As a general rule, it was beautiful on the island. But no matter how beautiful it was, he couldn't keep his mind from wandering. And then in the middle of said wandering, he caught sight of someone. That wasn't surprising, no, of course not. And it wasn't even surprising as to who it was. Derek had been there before. But Chris was pretty sure Derek didn't know he he was there.

And so Chris just stopped a short distance away and waited for Derek to realize he was there. Because Chris could be an ass sometimes.

Derek hadn't known at first that there was someone there. But since Chris was breathing, had a heartbeat he could hear, and the wind shifted enough to bring him his scent Derek knew pretty quickly. Of course because of who it was he didn't bother to turn around from what he was doing since he was stacking up wood in a little pyramid to dry out completely for fires.

"You know you don't have to just sit there and watch Chris." More often than not he was without a shirt here but Derek had his on at the moment. He was kind of glad about this since it was awkward enough to see Argent on sex island.

Chris just laughed and walked closer. "It was more playing a game of see how long exactly it'd take you to notice," he said. "Not that I thought it'd be long, but still. My money was on at least a minute or two." Which, y'know, he'd pretty much won. Or at least tied? Something. Good enough.

"So, how long have you been on the island, exactly?" Chris asked. "It gets hard to keep track of when people leave and show up and really, I start feeling like we need to let Stiles do a massive organization of what's going on. If he isn't already. It's Stiles so, y'know, I think he pretty much eats, sleeps, and breathes organizational things."

Because Stiles.

"Please tell me we're not going to be talking a lot about Stiles. It's been a nice day so far and that might ruin it." Derek finished up his stack of wood and stood up to brush the bark off his palms. "And I've been here about ten days. Got here just in time for the bonfire before last but I didn't go to it."

The shelter was coming along but it still left some to be desired. But Derek would keep working on it. He had managed to drag some things over to sit on at least. "How long have you been here?"

"That's about the extent of it," Chris said. "No, that's actually the extent of it. And me, I've been here..." He stopped to think a second. "Just over a month."

Which, now that he thought about it, seemed pretty amazing. That short an amount of time, and so much going on. So many people had been on the island, and so many of them had gone. He'd only known a couple of them, but even so. He was almost glad he hadn't known more of them.

Because he didn't know how much of it he could've taken if he'd known more of them. As it was? Isaac, Patty, Scott -- even if Scott was back -- Derek the first time around, even if he hadn't actually interacted with him... he was pretty sure that was it, but he didn't want to look at it any closer.

Sadly Chris was right about Stiles and the organization but Derek would let someone else talk to him about record keeping. It was better than when they first met but Derek still rarely got through a conversation with him without wanting to smack him.

"I didn't expect to see you here. Or Scott for that matter." Derek pulled up a log chunk and sat on it. It wasn't shaped or anything, just a piece that was good for sitting on.

"You don't seem the type for retirement to a happy island."

"Well, considering it was come here or potentially bleed to death after your psychotic uncle impaled me with a piece of rebar -- there's more to it than that, of course, but that's the highlight -- I figured, y'know, I'd pick the happy island," Chris said with a wry smile.

Because really, who wouldn't pick the island over probably death?

"I wish I could say he was adopted. It would make my whole family look so much better." Chris getting impaled had been part of the last things Derek had been through as well. But he still wouldn't have pegged Chris for coming here. He'd toughed out his sister, his wife and his daughter dying and Kate coming back. Derek had sort of thought he'd go down swinging.

"I wish Peter luck with his new home."

"Well, you can still say it," Chris said with a smirk. And hey look, Chris Argent has a sense of humor! Of course he did, it just got buried over the years until it so very rarely came out to play. And rarely came out around some people at all. Surprise, Derek!

But seriously, Peter being adopted? Really the best idea ever. Who wouldn't be up for that idea? Absolutely nobody, that's who.

"I'd ask how you're settling in, but I'm not entirely sure that's an appropriate question. Are there any appropriate questions I can ask you?" Chris wondered. "Because, uh, seriously."

"I'm not sure you and I need to go into the area of inappropriate questions. You might make me blush." That was said in the Derek dead pan expression and voice that Chris at least would know was him being joking and yet serious all at the same time. Derek really didn't want to know anything out loud about some people.

It was bad enough that he had senses that let him scent it and hear it all over the place. You got to be really good at tuning a lot of things out when you were a werewolf for your own sanity.
