WHO: EVERYONE
WHAT: Bonfire
WHEN: Saturday evening
WARNINGS: Anything is possible
STATUS: Open Party Post

Sara was glad to be back on the island. It hadn't been easy for her to decide to go back home, to be stuck in 1958, but Arva assured her that she would always have the option to return if she wanted and she knew she couldn't hide away forever. Going back and re-joining the League of Assassins seemed like the right thing to do in the moment. She was grateful that Rip the others managed to come back for her and Ray and Kendra, even though it took them two years.

Talking to Ray was something she knew she was going to have to do eventually now that she was back, but she wasn't really looking forward to it. There was no way she was going to tell him about his relationship with Kendra, not when it seemed so tentative. Especially knowing what Felicity did to him. She also didn't really want to talk about their most recent adventure and how they almost got all of their loved ones killed by Savage. Though she still thought that baby Snart was pretty damn adorable.

She was glad to throw herself into gathering wood and working on setting up the weekly bonfire. It was something to focus on that wasn't thinking about the things she experienced while she was gone. Hopefully she would be able to reconnect with some of the people she knew before or make some new connections tonight. Plus they had coffee now.

After nearly a month with no coffee, Sydney was pretty sure that she was going to end up giving herself heart palpitations from caffeine intake today now that they finally got enough beans shucked and roasted to actually make coffee. She was on her third (or was it fourth?) cup when she went to sit on a large rock near the bonfire.

It was hard to believe how much she had changed while she was here. She'd been intimate with two men, she'd given up on looking perfect, and she was actually eating a little more than usual. Being here was good for her, in a lot of ways, and she was glad that she accepted Arva's invitation.

Scott was still avoiding a lot of people. Things seemed to have settled down some, but he didn't want to chance stirring it all back up again by trying to talk to people. He worked on the site, checked on Bri and Stiles then kept to himself.

But he'd promised Arva he would try to extend his circle and meet people. He hadn't exactly been living up to that promise so he came to the bonfire tonight. Sight and scent told him where the people he knew were. He stayed clear of them, but it wasn't easy. He spotted an empty patch of sand next to a girl he didn't know and saw an opportunity.

"Mind if I sit down?" he asked from a little behind her. He'd find another place if she'd rather be left alone.

In spite of the fact that she still wasn't feeling terribly up to actually appearing in public with her ever-growing middle, the new clothes that had come last Monday Christmas from Stiles and the actual protein in her diet after the thumbs up from Martha on fish and shellfish, Lydia was feeling a little better. She didn't intend to tell any stories or bother anyone, so much as just get out of the hut for a few hours and keep to herself. On Day twenty seven of her pregnancy, her stomach was still little more than a protruding pooch, but it was still enough to make her self-conscious. She'd tried on the clothes that had come for her, but she was still a little small to need the shorts, so she'd come out in a pair of soft pink Victoria's Secret yoga pants she'd gotten on her first haul, with PINK in white, block letters stamped across their backside, but she did indulge in the tank top from the most recent, because it actually pulled down over her middle without hiking back up again from the strain. She wasn't completely comfortable in her own skin, but she was more well-fed and well-rested thanks to the morale booster Stiles had given her the evening prior. She could use some fresh air.

Her hair was piled onto the top of her head in milkmaid braids that she'd kept in place with some very creative and strategic use of twigs and flowers because if she didn't have make up, the least she could do was try to look less than the hot mess she felt like all the time now. Lydia lowered herself down onto a small pile of logs that had probably been set aside for some specific task to be picked up on Monday morning by the construction crew and she kept to herself, watching the fire and sipping on a cup of Prenatal Nourishing tea from Derek as she watched people beginning to arrive.

She wanted this pregnancy to be over. Lydia had thought through everything...except for the things she hadn't had the foresight to consider: like the first three weeks of rocky start with Stiles or all the stress that would come naturally just from being in the same place with the people from home. She hadn't thought about how the hormonal shifts would actually affect her, even though she'd known that she would experience them. Lydia hadn't considered how the stupidest, tiniest things would send her into a rage or have her drowning in her own tears. She wished that she hadn't decided first equated best, because she didn't feel like the best at all. She just felt like a chubby girl with no makeup on an island full of people who were secretly judging her as they stared at her growing stomach and wondering why Arva had chosen such a spoiled, teenage brat to be a part of the project. Whether that was actually happening or not, Lydia had no idea, but the fact that Jackson had magically already known about her pregnancy and her presence on the island before she'd even popped up online where he could see to say something lent her the idea that people were talking about her behind her back...and while the old, not pregnant Lydia would've either embraced that as a sign that she was trendsetting and attention-worthy, this Lydia with a baby growing inside of her before she was mentally prepared for it to be a baby rather than just an idea, had become paranoid and depressed, instead.

So she sat alone and decided to people watch, one hand holding the cup that Stiles had made for her with Isaac's help and her other absently rubbing the little baby bump on her front and mentally giving herself until the cup of tea was gone before she would allow herself to disappear back into her shelter to hide for the night. People watching was fine. It felt like everyone else was watching her every move, so there shouldn't be anything wrong with her watching theirs for fifteen or twenty minutes, right? Right.

Lydia Martin & Larissa Osorio

Larissa was going to teach someone to dance, that night. Whether it be Derek or someone else, this place needed a bit more cultural diversity, and Larissa was more than willing to offer it. She was enjoying herself here, mostly... there were some people who she was now purposefully avoiding due to the drama they seemed to carry around with them, and it was more difficult than she would like to admit to see Derek walking around in this place without being able to fall back into him the way that her body wanted her to the moment she saw him face. He came here to move past her, she knew that, and it was hard to accept. It hurt. But that was what their fate was, she supposed, and fate always had a reason, even if it wasn't remarkably clear to her. The universe had no obligation to prove itself to the insignificance that was Larissa Osorio. All she could do was hope, and have faith in the grand scheme.

She was moving toward the bonfire when she heard a faint whisper, a quiet sound brushing with the wind against her ear, and Larissa looked over to see Lydia sitting on some logs in the distance. Apparently the girl was deep in thought, because it took heavy meditation to send a whisper to another banshee purposefully while still on the plain of the living, and this girl had done so by accident. It was weak and indecipherable, of course, but it was still there, like a child taking an accidental step after letting go of a table before falling to a crawl. A sign of the next level, but still completely unintentional and lacking of concentration.

Larissa's eyes moved back to the bonfire before she decided, instead, to make her way over to Lydia, and she sat beside her with a kind smile. "Hello, sister," she greeted her warmly, but her smile quickly faded when she saw Lydia's hair. "What is this? Yes, I love it, you look fabulous. You have to teach me." Her smile returned. "After you tell me what is bothering you so."

Mack had been told the bonfires were a regular event around here. He hadn't really been to a lot of those back home, so he decided to head on over and check it out. He was still pretty new here, and he figured this would be a good way to get to know some of the others here. If he was going to be here awhile, it was necessary to have a few friends.

It was a nice night, too. Seemed like they all were nice. He still couldn't believe sometimes that he was here in paradise. Sometimes he thought about his teammates back home, and he found himself wishing some were here. At the same time, he was glad to be here. He still felt like he had purpose here, so that was something.

There were more than a few people milling around that Sara didn't recognize. Obviously in the days that she was gone, the population had grown a bit and she had some catching up to do. Especially since some of them were rather attractive.

She moved to sit near one such new arrival, offering a little smirk. "Hey," she said. "First bonfire?"

Nick had only been here a few days. He was still figuring out how things worked. He threw himself into helping with the construction, lending his telekinesis to the cause. They'd told him about the three girls who were knocked up. Nick, being something of a typical guy, stayed as far away from them as possible as if pregnancy was catching.

The other thing he'd been told about was the weekly bonfire. He'd been told it was a good way to get to know other people. That in mind, Nick pulled up a spot of sand and got comfortable to people watch and learn.

Jemma, however, was not showing yet. Sure, she'd begun to feel the first twinges of morning sickness, and she'd been amazed at how quickly everything was happening. But it was impossible to look at her and simply know that she was pregnant. Not yet.

Not that she was trying to hide it. She'd be glad to talk about it if anyone asked - although she was trying to keep the father private, for his own sake. Cisco didn't seem like he was as excited about this whole thing as she was.

She smiled at the guy who seemed to be watching them all.

"Good evening," she smiled, sitting down beside him. "I don't think I know you."

Raven did a lot of reflecting as she watched the fire. She mostly thought about what was going on back home, and all the horrible things she and her friends had been through. It was only natural that she would choose to come to this place over the hell back home. This seemed like a much healthier way to deal with her pain, both physical and mental, than whatever it was Jaha was preaching back at Arkadia.

She was grateful to take the paradise offer instead. Besides, everything was so messed up at home. Her friends were pretty scattered. Then there were those making horrible decisions that could only spell trouble for everyone else. She got out at the right time, it seemed. Sitting around at a bonfire still reminded her of her time on the ground when she first arrived. Bonfires were pretty much their only source of light and warmth at night. This place wasn't all that different in some ways. Back home, they were basically rebuilding a new society, just like here.

Only here, there wasn't so much death, destruction, and heartache. She'd had enough of all of those things for one lifetime...and she was only nineteen. Yeah, she was definitely looking at this new place as chance to start over.

Jackson knew that he should be saying something to Lydia. He saw her there, across the way, and knew he was being a jackass by not going over there and saying something to nice to her. But the truth was, he didn't trust himself not to be an asshole, and the last thing he needed to hurt her again. She didn't need that. Not when she was pregnant.

Even if it was Stilinski's. Jackson still couldn't believe he'd figured out how to knock up anyone. And he could believe even less that Lydia had let him.

Hell, what did he know. Things had obviously changed during his two years in Europe.

So instead, he sat down by the bonfire, looking over at the girl beside him and offering one of his most charming smiles. What the hell, she was hot.

"Hey."

Another week, another bonfire. Maria came to them even though she'd stopped telling stories from home. It was fascinating to listen to the others whether they were singing, sharing tales or just talking among each other. Situations like this told you a lot about people, and it gave her an idea of how things were progressing here.

This week she came with coffee. Blessed, marvelous coffee! It was in a hollowed out coconut shell that retained just enough of its taste to give the coffee a slightly sweet taste. Maria wasn't fond of coconut but it would take a lot to keep her from enjoying this beautiful, wonderful cup of joe. As she sat off to the side she might even have something of a blissed look on her face as she sipped the caffeinated goodness.

Simon had turned up at the bonfire in an effort to get to know some more people. It was always awkward meeting new people and well, he was never that good at it. So, despite his grand plan of talking to people and getting to know them he found himself on the edges of the party, just listening to what people were saying.

As he sat, he noticed someone else had a similar idea to him. Noticing the look on her face and drink in her hand he couldn't help but ask. "Coffee?" He had seen others with the drink and it wouldn't surprise him if this lady had some too. He hadn't had any yet, he had learned to survive without it somewhat. Being on a ship constantly you had packaged coffee which wasn't that nice so he had just stopped drinking it for the most part.

Real coffee was tempting though.

Chloe had had coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. She almost felt like she was back to normal. Almost. The one thing she lacked to make that image complete was a wall of monitors, several servers and harddrives, a keyboard and a mouse. She was making due with the bracelet and figuring out what all it could do as it was, and taking advantage of the caffeine in her system to work her brain on what it might be able to do.

Sitting at the bonfire gathering she was toying around with trying to get into the deeper settings of the bracelet. She had stopped paying attention to the people around her five minutes after getting here. Someone could possibly step over her and she wouldn't even notice.

Malia still wasn't feeling very social. She hadn't for a long time, since the beautiful place she thought she'd found had exploded all around her. She was acutally quite a bit better at being antisocial than she was at being social, so she hadn't minded that much. Or at least, she hadn't minded as much as she'd hated feeling like the world was against her. It wasn't that she thought she was being victimized, exactly. No. She felt - she knew that it was her fault as much as anyone else's, but that didn't make her feel any better. It sucked regardless.

So as she looked around her, she sat tiredly near a girl who looked like she wasn't paying attention. She wasn't in much of a mood to talk, but she wasn't in much of a mood to be alone, either.

Amanda hadn’t gone to the last bonfire, too caught up in her thoughts that had been stirred by her talk with Derek--both about the culture they were trying to build here, and the ones they’d left behind. She’d still felt a little useless then, and more than a little awkward.

But now...she’d never stop being surprised how quickly things could change. She was still wondering if the gods had given her that bed to push her to finally summon up the courage to really make that leap with Derek, which had been--she wasn’t sure how to quantify that yet. Nice, certainly. But she knew it would be an effort not to hold every encounter she had against Nick. Which wasn’t fair to anyone, but it was up to her to figure out how to get him off the pedestal she’d been building for all those years.

The fact she had some projects at least in the planning stages now helped. Sure, they were small things--helping Lydia with the salt, working on some way to keep records with Chloe--but they were things she knew she could do. Things that made her feel useful, which was important when her general skill set seemed fairly useless here at the moment. She was definitely hoping with Chloe that one of them would get at least a basic laptop soon. She'd started fiddling around with her own bracelet a bit more, but she wasn't holding her breath on getting too far just yet.

Right now, she was feeling fairly content, sitting a bit off to the side with a shell of coffee in hand (even if she didn’t have an addiction like Nick’s, it was a nice change to have something warm to drink) and just watching everyone...and occasionally feeling her newly-smooth if slightly scarred-up legs.

Amanda & Sirius
[info]totallyserious
2016-05-01 03:03 am UTC (link)
He had originally intended to avoid the bonfire like the plague. Sirius had been removed from the human population for six months, locked in the most horrid prison that any sick mind could have thought up, and he had assumed that throwing himself into a large group of people would be the exact opposite of what he had needed. He went from losing his best friends and being betrayed by one to sitting in solitude for what felt like ages, and although Sirius was more than thrilled to be out he was still concerned that perhaps he was a little more unstable than he himself was aware of. It was a scary place to be in, mentally; broken enough to be unsteady, but self-aware enough to know that he didn't know just how unsteady he was.

But the sound was too much. He had eaten as soon as he had gotten to the camp, limiting himself to two portions because he hadn't managed to eat in over four days and he could feel himself starving, like he usually was. He didn't want to make himself sick, and he also didn't want to show up and end up eating the entire stockpile of food the community managed to save, especially since he hadn't managed to make himself useful just yet. After that the noise and laughter had called to him, and Sirius realized how much he wanted - no, how much he ached to be around other people. It was conflicting. He missed speaking to another human being, but he was afraid of being overwhelmed all at once.

He was also afraid of how much they knew about him, and what they did and didn't believe.

That fear came secondary to his innate desperation to be around another living being, so Sirius found himself slowly approaching, looking from strange face to strange face until he saw someone sitting off to the side. She was distanced from the rest of the group by just enough to make him comfortable, and with a deep breath Sirius approached her, still managing to turn on that charming smile despite the fact that it felt completely foreign to his face now.

"Mind if I join you?" It was the first time he had spoken aloud since he arrived and his voice sounded strange to him. Raspier, perhaps from a lack of use. It was the best type of culture shock, though. Who could complain about being pulled out of the worst prison in wizarding history and dropped into a paradise?

Of course, things weren't perfect. But it was lovely here, and Briseis could be her own person. That made up for a lot of imperfections. She wasn't ready for having children just yet, but she was glad to find that there was a lot she could do here to help. There was a great deal that she could contribute, and that felt good.

She wasn't terribly fond of the new coffee drink that everyone had seemed to crazy about. It was horribly bitter! Perhaps she simply needed to develop the taste for it, but she didn't have the patience to do that right now.

In time. In time.

She sat down next to another young woman (she was far more comfortable around women, still), and smiled.

"Hello," she said softly, and kindly.

After telling a few people one of the biggest secrets he kept hidden (not the biggest, he knew, but telling strangers about Gray and Tosh and Owen would be more painful than dying and reviving for two thousand years had been), Jack hadn’t seen much point in going to the last bonfire. Well, it was more that he’d been afraid of what he might get asked in public (what he did back home, someone else picking about if anyone had known, why he'd left), but telling himself he had nothing great to say that couldn't be told somewhere else was easier than admitting that fear.

But after the tension of the last week or so--and the release of some of that tension with Chloe and Bo--Jack figured he should put in an appearance.

And after all, there was going to be coffee. Even if it wouldn’t be up to Ianto’s standards, he really had missed coffee. Just because he didn’t need much sleep didn’t mean a good kick of caffeine now and then didn’t feel amazing.

He was standing a bit to the side, smiling and giving a suggestive raise of his eyebrow over his makeshift cup at anyone who passed his way, inviting anyone who wanted to stop and talk--or more.

Cam almost hadn't gone to the bonfire this weekend. As much as he loved it and he appreciated that they were creating a tradition, whether or not most of the might have realized it, he was so tired after a week of manual labor. How some of those guys worked twelve hours a day every day — even the days when most people weren't working at all — was beyond Cam. Some of them were werewolves, he thought, so that made sense, but some of them weren't and where they were getting all of their energy was a mystery to Cam. But after half on hour of laying in bed and staring at the ceiling of his shelter, unable to actually fall asleep even though his body was weary, Cam finally gave up on the attempt to sit this one out.

He headed out to the main camp in his boxers and a pair of sneakers, because who gave a shit what he looked like as long as he wasn't sweating balls and uncomfortable. Patty walked around half naked all the time, no one seemed to care. Then again, Patty was a beautiful woman and Cam was just this side of a goddamned Sasquatch at six foot two and over two-twenty. Still. Fuck 'em if they didn't like it. He was kind of too tired to care.

It was the raise of the man's eyebrows that did it, admittedly. Ever since that goddamned post about threesomes — not that he could complain as it had earned him a few rounds with Sara and Ruby before Sara had gone home and the novelty had worn off — he'd been curious about the men around here. Nick had been pretty open about his interest in both of the sexes and that had thrown Cam for a loop. Where he came from, in a world full of jocks and WASPs, being gay was social suicide and bisexuality was a fancy word for "gay but pretending to be indecisive." Having a man openly look at him like that was still very new. It caught his attention.

"Coffee, huh? I figured I'd leave this pot to the die hards and grab some the next time around," he started the conversation off as casually as possible. "Is it any good?"

Bonfire night!

Nick wasn't sure that he was actually all that excited for the bonfire this evening, but he was here. The werewolf had been putting in a lot of man hours on the medical facility, and he'd even made time for running....unfortunately, that meant that most other activities had slowed down for him.

Now, that wasn't exactly a bad thing. His social life was suffering, though. And that was one of the most important reasons that he needed to be at the bonfire this evening. Wolves were social creatures, and Nick was nothing if not a wolf, by birth and nature, really.

So, Nick sat near the actual fire, sprawled in the position that he found most comfortable: his legs stretched out and propped up against a rock with his ass in the sand. For now his eyes were moving around the different people here. It wasn't hard for him to hear damn near every conversation going on around him. Nicky was doing his best not to eavesdrop, though, as he worked on the pile of fruit that he'd snatched for himself. Currently, he was working on one of the four apples that he'd grabbed, and he still had a nice assorted pile next to him.

And, yes, he was planning on eating every single bite of all of it. Meat would have been preferable, but he could always take care of that craving later. Damn, he'd kill for some bacon. Tearing off a chunk of apple, as politely as he could, the werewolf scanned the area, a friendly smile on his face. Things really were coming along. Now, he just needed to draw someone in to talk to him and it'd be a good night. Well, a good night that he'd cap off later with hunting down something to eat.

For now, fruit and friendliness, hoping to lure someone in close to talk. It was only because he was so relaxed, and needed it, that Nick wasn't on the prowl. He deserved a bit of a rest, he figured.

Larissa had let Lydia go, knowing that the poor thing was pregnant and probably not feeling the best, and after that she had decided to approach the bonfire more directly than staying on the outskirts. There was an array of people and although Larissa wasn't particularly familiar with all of them, she did see some friendly faces that she recognized, some mingling and some busying themselves with coffee. The coffee that, of course, Larissa finally grabbed herself a share of, and although it wasn't the best Brazilian roast she could get from the little cafe down the street, it was still coffee, and it was wonderful.

She had wanted to dance, or at least teach someone how to, but it would be difficult to do without some sort of rhythm to work with. She passively thought about finding Cassie, because the girl seemed to be musically inclined in some way and may be able to come up with a way to keep her moving, but for now Larissa was looking around for a solution of her own. She wanted to teach Derek, and she knew that he would have been more than happy to learn, but there was something here holding him back and that made her remarkably uncomfortable. She had never seen him like that before, reserved and hidden away in fear of being... what? Embarrassed? Paid attention to? It hurt her, because it was as if she was looking at a stranger, and to Larissa, Derek was the only person here who wasn't supposed to make her feel that way. She had never been disappointed in him before, and now... well. It was like she didn't know him. And that hurt her so much more than she knew she should allow it to. He had no obligation to her here. That was over now. But this was the first time she felt that.

So, yes, she would teach someone else to dance, then. But after the coffee. God, she loved the coffee, and if anyone wanted to bitch at her for wanting it in the first place then they could promptly shove a coconut up whatever orifice they were speaking out of. Coffee was her lifesource, and to feel the caffeine in her veins again was like having a moment with god.

She looked around curiously at all of the faces, bringing a conch shell back up to her lips to take another slow sip, and Larissa moved to sit by the fire and people watch. All in all, the people here were remarkably pretty, and Larissa had high standards for a word like that. She made a mental note to send Arva a fruit basket.

Cass didn't quite feel back to normal just yet, but she was doing everything that she could to get herself...somewhere akin to normal. She might not find the same normal that she'd had before. In fact, she was sure that she wouldn't. She wasn't sure that Sere, or Chester as she went by now, could get back to who she'd been before. Her baby wanted to try, though, and Cassie wouldn't discourage it. Things weren't....like they were before between them. They were different, and they had some ways to go, to find whatever new normal that they could.

Cassie was sure that they would manage to, though, if only because she was determined. When Cassidy Barnes was determined she made things happen. Not everyone here knew that yet, but people would figure it out just like her girlfriend had once upon a time.

Tonight, though, was about having fun. Bonfires were supposed to be a lot of fun, and about being social. Those were two things that Cassie had missed. She was having fun. Being playful felt good. And being here, out on the sand, feeling it between her toes as she walked around and through the different people was definitely more than she had hoped for when she and the love of her life had left campus to flee for their lives. This was her new life. Cassie couldn't think of any reason that she'd ever choose to leave this place. And there was something comforting about knowing that she could choose that, and also something scary considering...how could you leave everything behind?

She'd never forget how close to death she'd been. And she couldn't forget her family either. Those were things that nobody, she didn't care who they were, could leave behind. Those weren't thoughts for a party. Lifting her hand up to push her blond hair back out of her face, Cassie continued to walk through the sand...not sure who or what she was looking for, but she'd find someone...or someone would get her attention, or speak to her, she supposed. And either way she was okay with that; she was just going to do her best and enjoy the chance to focus on this, the here and now, and not everything else. She'd have to do that because that was the best way for her to move forward and she was absolutely going to move forward and do the best she could here.

Though, the best might have been better with some s'mores...and/or beer, Cassie thought, a bit of a grin pulling at her lips.

After his discussion with Maria, Simon wandered off to the other side of the bonfire to see who else was around. He found that he had slightly warmed up to the idea of having sex to repopulate an island with complete strangers. A part of him wished that Kaylee was here. He missed her and the thought of having children with her intrigued him. He loved her that was for sure but at the same time he was scared of taking things to quickly.

He supposed if it was to happen it would.

Still, he was sure there was a long way to go until he was completely comfortable with the idea. He just wasn't all that experienced.

Finding a log on to sit, he silently watched the others at the bonfire.

After figuring out that Santana had disappeared, presumably back to civilization, Quinn found herself feeling very alone. As much as the two of them fought at times, traded verbal and physical blows in Lima, Santana was one of her best friends, a member of their unholy trinity, and with her here, she felt more confident in her ability to survive this island. Despite not knowing her presence to exist in the first place here, seeing Santana here, gave Quinn courage. A familiar face, variety aside, was all that mattered and sometimes all one needed was that familiar face to gather strength. When Yale granted her this opportunity, she'd taken it, but with the hopes of starting over. It was a spur of the moment thing, but Quinn felt it was right. Santana's presence was a bonus, but it meant everything to Quinn.

Despite the pain, Quinn made herself venture to the weekly bonfire and found a seat close enough to watch the flames. Santana and her were supposed to sing here, but they never did. Maybe, eventually, the thought of potentially singing with her best friend would not hurt. The times the blond had tried to belt out a few words, she found her voice stifled, cracked, and broken. Deep down, she wasn't sure if she could again. If people could just go home here, why would she ever get attached? Why would she ever try to form bonds? No, this place was not about bonds, not permanent ones anyway.

Closing her eyes, the blond pulled her knees to her chest, securing them tight with her arms. Her hair was growing back, the long, luscious blond locks from high school returning rapidly, but Quinn couldn't bring herself to ask another to cut it. For one, there would be no layers and for another, it was comforting. It was something from home and Quinn found herself grasping for it. Spirit of adventure? No, not really, but she was determined to make it even if all she could muster up was a tune once in awhile.

Well. It had been a week. Lynne had promised herself she'd give the place a week and decide whether it was for her, after the shit storm of a "welcome" she'd gotten the first time she tried to talk to the other volunteers on the network. Since then, largely she'd been keeping to herself. She had given Finnick a haircut and had managed to get Sam to help her build a shelter. The rest of the week she'd spent shucking coffee beans and trying to decide if being here was really the best decision for her.

Lynne had never been very good at being social. She liked people, mostly. She wanted very much to be liked in return. ...but filling in the spaces to build bridges with others always seemed to be the part with which she struggled the most. She wanted to be good at making friends, but she never had been. There was something to be said about living in one's younger sibling's shadow for one's entire life that made finding the confidence to strike up conversations difficult. She'd managed it with Chris on her first night, but that had been more out of necessity than anything else; she'd needed to know she was in the right place.

Now, a week had passed and she still felt small, insignificant, a little bit frightened, and entirely too overwhelmed. ...the jury was still out. She'd stick it out until she had come to a conclusion one way or the other, she decided. And until then, she'd just waffle around trying her best to be useful and keep away from Malia, because everyone else seemed to think it had been an idle threat, but for the first conversation she had had with the other woman to have culminated in a death threat, well. Lynne wasn't stupid. It was better to be safe than sorry.

So she'd gotten a cup of coffee and left a wide berth around the pregnant woman as she made her way to the far end of the camp. She'd watch people for a little while and if she found anyone sitting alone that looked like they had a friendly face, then she'd approach them. Until then, she'd just sit and enjoy the fact that she was on a beautiful island in front of a bonfire and under a starry sky. Hey. Things could be a hell of a lot worse.
