Knock knock Barry...

Kitty was doing better. Well, better to a certain degree, anyway. She definitely felt less like an outsider (of her own making). She wasn't, by any means, perfect. And it was absolutely a process to keep herself a part of things here. She didn't feel as if she were hiding now, so much as just trying to let herself open up from the clammed up person that living in a world full of mutant-haters. It helped that there were other people somewhat similar to he here. Barry was one of them, and Kitty definitely liked him.

He was curious, like her, and even though speed and phasing weren't the same it very much felt like he was a person that she could understand. She also though that he was attractive. It was the fact that he was so curious and had questions, though, and wanted to hear her stories that made him a good friend for Kitty. It brought her out of the shell she'd managed to work herself into.

She'd even showed off for him, so obviously he was at least somewhat of a good influence. Kitty was probably a little more excited than she should be about the chance to sleep on a bed too, but the makeshift thing she'd been sleeping on wasn't quite the same. That was part of the reason she'd said yes, he other was that she needed to open up more. She was here for a purpose, and even though she wasn't ready to have children yet....this seemed like a step in heading in that direction (even if there were a lot of steps left). Letting herself be somewhat vulnerable, and to get close to anyone, even if just to sleep and talk....it was definitely a necessary step.

Kitty made her way toward Barry's shelter, her hair down and somehow managing to be both frizzy and curly. She was one of the few girls with a hair tie, but she was trying not to actually wear it out too quickly. She was in less clothing than she might have normally worn, but she hadn't quite managed to get to the point of a nudist yet. Maybe eventually, but with the gifts that they'd been receiving it might not even be necessary.

Kitty lifted hr hand to knock before pausing and calling out instead. "Barry? It's Kitty?" She leaned forward, peeking in, "Knock, knock!"

"Come on in," Barry said. He didn't have a lot of stuff, but he made sure everything he did have was neat and organized in his shelter. He wasn't one of the lucky ones with a canteen, so he was making do with coconut shells for water, and he had a few that were full of fresh water in case either of them got thirsty. He also had a shell full of assorted nuts in case they wanted a snack.

He was already stripped down to just his boxers and t-shirt since he took a dip after working all day to clean up before Kitty came over to share his bed. He wasn't sure if they were going to do anything except share stories and sleep, but he wanted to be prepared for anything. "How was your day?" he asked.

Kitty entered the shelter without hesitation after hearing the okay, smiling at the tall meta-human. His shelter was more organized than she had realized she thought it'd be. She hadn't considered what his sheltered look like too carefully, but it was a nice surprise.

Kitty's shirt and underwear were about the same thing as a bikini, and so she was mostly comfortable....even if she wasn't sure if tonight would mind up more than just what they'd agreed to. She'd wait and see. "It was okay, a little long, but mostly routine." Kitty offered. "Helping however I can with the medical facility or whatever I can find has sort of become what I do every day now. What about you?"

Barry was a guy so naturally he couldn't help but let his gaze drop to Kitty's legs for a brief moment before meeting her eyes again. "Pretty much the same," he said. "Working on the medical facility most of the time, but occasionally taking time to do other things that are necessary."

It was still sort of disconcerting to not have a real structure to his days. At least working on the medical facility gave him a sense of purpose like his work back home.

Kitty gave a bit of a nod, taking a look around Barry's shelter. It was interesting to see the different ways that another person arranged things, and set up their living space here. Kitty's own was definitely the epitome of bare minimum, truthfully. "I think it'll pay off once the medical facility is done, though. And the sooner the better, so at least it's a way to feel useful." Kitty commented.

Kitty had gotten used to classes and work, and so now...well she had to figure out what to do here and it hadn't been exactly easy, but the slower pace had definitely started to settle. "I still can't believe people are getting beds in waves." Kitty changed the subject, grinning at Barry. "You got lucky." Okay, maybe there were a few nerves about sharing a bed with someone who was a budding friend. Not enough to deter the mutant, though.

"Well, have a seat," Barry said. "It's pretty comfortable."

Kitty was attractive, but more than that, he genuinely liked her as a person. She was one of the few around here who seemed to really understand what he'd gone through after his coma and that was something he really appreciated.

"I'm pretty sure just about any bed would feel like the epitome of comfort right about now." Kitty teased as she moved to do exactly as Barry'd suggested, though, plopping down (gracefully mind you) on the edge of the bed. She gave it a moment, a bit of a grin on her face, testing the mattress under her behind before she gave a verdict. "But you're right, it is comfortable."

Kitty could only hope that before long she wound up with a bed of her own. Barry had invited her tonight, but it was definitely probably going to be one of the best night's of sleep she'd get on the island, thus far. Kitty shifted, making herself comfortable, and grinning at her companion. "I think I owe you a story for your hospitality. Any particular requests?" Kitty joked, ticking off a few options. "Ridiculous teenage years of falling through into other people's bedrooms? Intangible period? New mutant managing to save some old pros before even having a hang of anything?"

Barry laughed as Kitty made herself comfortable. He joined her and settled in, listening to her tick off the various stories she could tell to entertain him. He definitely didn't want her to tell anything that might be too heavy or sad, so he figured he'd let her make the final call.

"I feel like the ridiculous teenage years has a lot of potential," he said. "Though, I'm thinking those stories would be better with alcohol." Not that alcohol had any effect on him anymore, but it was the thought that counted.

Kitty angled her body so that she was facing Barry, feeling like seeing him was definitely preferable to being profile. She didn't mind sharing stories, not in the least. She probably needed to share more with everyone around here. Kitty was sure that there were things from the stories that everyone could probably learn from, in general. However, a lost of it was also pretty specific to her life there back home too.

"Good choice, my friend, good choice." The brunette laughed, that grin on her face as she nodded, some of her curls shifting with the movement. "Alcohol does make them better, but I suppose we'll have to do without." Kitty reached up to tuck some hair back behind her ear. "So, as you know I was 13 when I came into my mutant ability. And after that I left home to go to Xavier's to learn to control my phasing. The very first night I had trouble sleeping because I was in a new place. So, half-awake and half asleep...went to get up out of bed.....and I went right through the floor and landed right on the person in the room below me." Kitty laughed at the memory.

"That kind of became a common theme, actually. Half asleep? Whoops, sorry to fall from above." Kitty joked, able to laugh at it now. "Or...thunder storm that's kind of loud? Damn it there I go through the floor because I got startled. Same went for loud noises. I even phased through desks a few times before I got the hang of tuning out people dropping books or loud noises from nowhere."

If Kitty wasn't laughing at her own stories, Barry would have felt guilty for laughing, but he was trying to imagine being the person who suddenly found themselves with a random girl on top of them in the middle of the night. "You know, I have to admit, if I was a thirteen year old boy and woke up to find you in my bed, I probably would have enjoyed that."

Hopefully she wouldn't take offense to it since he meant it as a compliment.

"I can't imagine trying to deal with learning how to control my abilities in that kind of environment," he added. "Although I guess it would have been kind of cool to be in a school with a bunch of other people in the same situation." Though, now that he thought about it, it also sounded kind of dangerous. That Xavier guy was pretty damn brave.

And there he did it. Barry's comment was something Kitty couldn't help but laugh a little bit harder at it. "Well, despite my embarrassment, I probably wouldn't have minded landing on you, considering you're tall and handsome." Kitty laughed, unable to help it. "Obviously the room beneath mine was never a favorite, in general, though for the simple risk that I might wake someone up." Kitty was smiling, even as she shared.

It wasn't that hard to share all of this, honestly. In fact, it felt kind of good to laugh with someone over the things that....at the time she had made a much bigger deal about. Now, though, they were just silly memories of her trial and error in controlling her gifts.

"That's funny because I don't think I can imagine trying to figure it all out without the amount of help I had." Kitty spoke, honestly. "It was helpful, to me, to have the core group of adults and other students around. And to have the facility too." Kitty added thinking of the danger room and the different ways that she had actually honed her phasing. "But everyone learns differently too. I thrived in that environment, others didn't." Kitty shrugged.

"I think it's your turn to share a story now." Kitty nudged him lightly, curious about his abilities...and his experience too.

Since Kitty told a slightly embarrassing story, Barry decided it was only fair that he tell her one in return.

"Okay, so, shortly after I woke up from my coma, when we were still trying to figure out exactly what I was capable of, we also didn't know about the various... shall we say... side effects," he said. "See, one of the things that my speed increases is my metabolism. Which might sound great, you know, because I can eat whatever I want and not have to worry about gaining weight."

Not that it was something he ever was really concerned about, but he knew it was a thing for some people, especially girls. That was one thing he learned early after moving in with Joe and Iris.

"Anyway, I escorted my best friend, Iris, to an event and six armed gunman stormed the place to rob it," he said. "So, I figured I'd do the superhero thing, right? Made an excuse to go and change and came back to disarm them. And ended up passing out from hypoglycemia."

Kitty gave Barry her complete attention while he started his story. It was still hard to believe that he had been affected in order to trigger his power, rather than born with it. She could only wonder what sort of biological changes had happened as a result. She was almost positive he didn't even know yet, he hadn't had the changes that long yet. It took the brunette only a few moments to start to get an idea of where he was going, and her smile grew as she lifted her hand to cover her mouth. "Oh, jeez..." She said in response to the weight thing.

The second that he said he passed out Kitty tried to stifle her laugh. "I'm sorry, that's not funny, but...it also kind of is." Kitty dropped her hand and moved to lean on her hand, watching Barry. "You really passed out? Do I even want to ask what happened when your best friend found you? Did she or did you wake up?"

"I really passed out," Barry confirmed. "We figured out that I needed to up my calorie intake exponentially to account for my metabolism. Cisco created these awesome protein bars. I kind of wish I had some here." Maybe the gods would hook him up. Or maybe Cisco could figure out how to recreate them.

He was grateful that there were plenty of people hunting and a lot of meat available. If he was stuck with just fruit and nuts, he would be completely useless around here. Of course, it made sense that the gods would make sure that didn't happen. Why would they bring him here if he was just going to have issues with his hypoglycemia?

"That's probably one of my most embarrassing stories," Barry said. At least that he was willing to share. He liked Kitty and didn't want to tell her anything that might paint him in too unflattering of a light.
