WHO Phil & Darcy
WHAT baby?
WHEN couple of days after Ella gives birth
WHERE Not too far from the medical center
WARNINGS TBD
STATUS Closed | Incomplete

Phil didn't know why he still had Diana's daughter in his arms. He should've given the child over to Arva right away, only the girl was half his. It had been an arrangement though, nothing more. He was just a sperm donor for all intents and purposes, but the newborn was cute. She kept smiling and reaching for him whenever he was near and she was awake. That had to mean something, surely. He wouldn't keep her, but a few days wouldn't hurt anything. Ella too was taking a few days and had assured him she didn't mind at all in terms of feeding.

Knowing she wanted time with her own daughter, Phil took his daughter and just walked her around nearby the Medical Center. She'd just fed, so she was mostly sleepy and liked to be moving as she dozed. Tucked against his chest, she also seemed to like it when he spoke, no doubt because of the vibrations and the deep baritone of his voice. "You know, I think you'll be happy with Arva," he was telling her as he walked. "I've been enjoying the island, but I suppose that's obvious enough since you're here, huh?" Phil chuckled. "You'll be back here in a couple of months though, and eighteen. That's going to be a doozy, but I'm kind of looking forward to it in a way." He tickled her tummy and it got her to smile. "Yea, me too, kiddo." He wondered what her name was going to be.

"Just don't name yourself Darcy, okay? Or Lewis. I'm a little less worried about the latter, but I have to say it. Even if you can't understand me just yet, I really need you to not pick a name that's anything like her's cause she's...something special." Something very special indeed.

Darcy knew that Diana left the island and that Ella gave birth to Phil's daughter. Part of her wanted to reach out to him and see how he was doing with everything, but she was still conflicted about him deciding to father a child with another woman without even asking her if she was interested. She'd finally acknowledged, at least to herself, that she was developing feelings for Phil and she wasn't sure how to deal with that.

When she heard that he hadn't given the baby to Arva yet, she decided to go and meet her. She couldn't avoid him, nor did she want to, and she imagined that it might be difficult to decide to give her child over to the goddess.

Ella told her that Phil had taken the baby for a walk and she was looking for him when she heard him talking to his daughter. Her breath caught when he said that she was special. Was it possible he was developing feelings too? If so, how would that even work here?

Forcing herself to remain calm, she plastered on a smile and walked around the corner into sight, pretending she hadn't overheard him. "Hey, you," she said. "I was hoping to meet the little one before you hand her over."

Phil looked up when he caught movement out of the corner of her eye and smiled when he saw that it was Darcy. He was a little surprised to hear her say that she wanted to meet his daughter, but in a good way. Agreeing to be the father for Diana hadn't seemed like a big deal at the start of it, but after he'd mentioned it in passing to Darcy, it had seemed like a bigger deal.

"Hey," he replied, fondness clear in his tone. Phil couldn't even hide it anymore. "You've got good timing then. It'll be another day or two before both girls go to Arva." It helped for him because he wasn't emotionally invested in Diana's daughter in the same way he would have been invested if the child belonged to someone he had serious feelings for. Like Darcy.

"Diana had taken to calling her Daughter, so I've been sticking to that for the moment. So, Daughter, meet Darcy Lewis," he introduced, shifting so that his daughter could get a good look at Darcy. The baby cooed and smiled, reaching toward the pretty face in front of her.

"Hi, there, baby girl," Darcy said, reaching out to touch the baby's soft cheek. She was adorable, there was no doubt, and it was easy for Darcy to pick out Phil's features on her face. "So you're not going to name her before you give her up?" Thanks to her eavesdropping, she already knew the answer to that, but she didn't want Phil to know that she'd heard him since she had no idea what it meant for them.

It was all too easy for her to imagine herself giving birth to his child and she was a little startled by the mental image. She knew that eventually she would have a child or two for Arva, but until this very moment, that seemed hypothetical more than practical. Now, though...

"She looks healthy and happy," she said, trying to get her mind focused.

It warmed Phil's heart to see Darcy interacting with his daughter. He could very easily picture them with their own child between them and that was a dangerous thought indeed. Some people had chosen to raise their kids and they stuck to a bit more exclusive relationship, but would that work for them? Was that something Darcy would even want? Would she want it with him?

"No, I don't think so," he replied, focusing on the conversation instead. "Diana might have named her, but we didn't really talk about it." Phil figured it was a little unconventional, but he'd helped her through with the doctor appointments and the increased libido. He just hadn't discussed names with her, especially since they were giving the child to Arva. "I figure she can name herself or Arva or one of the other Gods and Goddesses can." He wasn't fussed, so long as her name didn't remind him of Darcy in any way.

"She does, doesn't she?" Phil was kind of proud of that. "Do you want to hold her?"

There was a moment of hesitation before Darcy nodded and held her arms up so that Phil could carefully shift the baby into her arms. She couldn't help but smile once the girl was settled in her arms. And, yeah, she might be ready for this sooner than later. The only problem was, she wasn't sure if Phil would be up for supporting her through it on the heels of giving up this baby and she couldn't imagine having the experience without him.

"I guess we might get to meet her soon enough and find out," Darcy said. "Which is both really weird and kind of cool." She didn't think she had it in her to raise a baby, especially in a setting like this, but it was cool to think about knowing her kid.

Phil smiled as he transferred his daughter in Darcy's arms. He couldn't possibly curb the grin on his face watching her with the little one because it was just so easy to picture them doing this with their own daughter. "Very weird," he agreed, "but I'm curious. You weren't here for her I don't think, but Bruce and Maria's daughter, Moon, was here for a bit before she decided to go back to Arva's temple. She was...not at all like her parents." But very sweet and a gentle soul. He wondered what his daughter would be like in a few months when she would be eighteen and ready to join them on this part of the island.

"You're good with her," he commented, though it wasn't without purpose. Phil was probing in his subtle way to discover when she might want to go through the experience herself. And then, perhaps, if she wanted him to be the one to help her.

Darcy smiled at the compliment. "Thanks," she said. "I guess it'll be good practice for when I'm ready to make a contribution to Arva." Which she hadn't given much serious thought to until now. "I mean, I don't think I'd ever want to raise a child here, but I wouldn't want to give the baby to Arva within minutes of being born either." A couple of days, like what he and Ella were doing right now, that was reasonable.

"How are you doing with all of this?" she asked.

"Ella has it right, spending a few days with them." Phil had thought Diana would want to spend a few days with her child, but he hadn't been sure if his presence would be welcome. Now, he was all his daughter had and he wasn't about to let her go to Arva without knowing she was loved.

"It's...different than I thought it would be." His gaze dropped to his daughter, fond and smitten. "I can't raise her, not here, not any better than Arva can." Phil didn't want to taint her with his own world views, not when the island was meant for something so much better. With enough children on the island, they wouldn't be needed anymore, but until that day came, he would do his best to contribute to the children of the island.

"It's going to be weird when she comes back to us, grown, her own woman." Phil wasn't even thinking when he said 'us'. "But I figure there's some time between now and then. I never thought I'd be a father, not in our world. But here? It's a nice feeling. Making someone so beautiful. So innocent."

"I'm sure she's going to grow up to be an amazing woman," Darcy said. "After all, how could she be anything but?" Phil was an amazing guy, after all, and the baby in her arms had half of his genes. She hadn't known Diana well, but if Phil thought she was worthy to procreating with, then she must have also been a good person.

She tore her gaze away from the baby and looked at Phil. "Would you consider doing this again?" she asked, the words slipping out before she even really had a chance to reconsider them.

Phil smiled warmly, something he really only did around the people he cared for, at he knew that whatever missteps he might've made, Darcy still thought well of him. When she asked if he'd consider doing it again, fathering a child, he didn't hesitate. "Yes. Whenever you're ready to." Because he'd wanted to go through this process with her in the first place and hadn't had any indication she'd changed her mind about it.

Now though, he had hope, and he stepped forward to put his arms around her waist, carefully holding her as she held his daughter. "I'm not in any rush but- as soon as this little one is with Arva until the end of my time here, I'll always be willing to have a baby with you." Maybe it was too much, too honest and raw, but Phil didn't want there to be any mistaking things between them.

That kind of answered the question she'd had when she approached and overheard him talking to his daughter. Apparently he did have feelings. And Darcy found herself relieved by that. She tilted her head up and brushed her lips against his. "I'd like that," she said, her voice soft.

The baby started to fuss a little and she bounced her a little. "None of that, little one," she said. "You're going to have a wonderful life with Arva and you have a daddy who loves you very much."

He chased her lips for another kiss, glad that they seemed to be on the same page once more. He only pulled away when his daughter started to fuss a little, but Darcy was already soothing her. "It's true," Phil agreed. " I do." Although he was looking at Darcy when he said it, and it held true for the woman holding his daughter just as much as it did for his daughter herself.

"We'll give the girls to Arva in another couple of days. We could talk for a bit, after that?" And decide when, at the very least. His daughter lifted her hands in a grabbing motion toward's Phil's face and he knew she wanted to be returned to his arms. With a slightly apologetic smile, he took his daughter back in his arms and she closed her eyes almost immediately. Phil couldn't help but laugh. "Guess I'm a good pillow," he mused.

Darcy was going to pretend that she didn't notice him looking at her when he said that. That was a little overwhelming to think about and she was grateful when he took the baby back from her. "Yeah, that sounds good," she said. "I'll leave you two alone for now." It was sweet to see the baby so content in her father's arms.

"Let me know if you need anything, okay?" she said.

Phil nodded. "I will." He smiled. "I'm glad you got to meet her before she grew up." He pressed a kiss to his daughter's forehead and she fluffed a little, making a rather cute noise altogether. "I'll see you later, Darce."

He turned back toward the medical center so he could sit down in one of the rocking chairs while his daughter slept.
