"Ella has it right, spending a few days with them." Phil had thought Diana would want to spend a few days with her child, but he hadn't been sure if his presence would be welcome. Now, he was all his daughter had and he wasn't about to let her go to Arva without knowing she was loved.
"It's...different than I thought it would be." His gaze dropped to his daughter, fond and smitten. "I can't raise her, not here, not any better than Arva can." Phil didn't want to taint her with his own world views, not when the island was meant for something so much better. With enough children on the island, they wouldn't be needed anymore, but until that day came, he would do his best to contribute to the children of the island.
"It's going to be weird when she comes back to us, grown, her own woman." Phil wasn't even thinking when he said 'us'. "But I figure there's some time between now and then. I never thought I'd be a father, not in our world. But here? It's a nice feeling. Making someone so beautiful. So innocent."
