She had entirely lost track of time, leaving it until after sunset to collect her groceries after a day of shopping for shoes. Paul would roll his eyes at her when he got home, the amount of shoes she already had, he just did not see the need for any more. But buying them just always kept her entertained, even for the pairs she'd never worn.
It made her faintly uneasy, walking alone along the streets at night, the bag of food in her arms. She still had quite a way to walk before she could reach where she had parked her car and she hurried as much as she could, the skirt and heels she was wearing limiting her movements somewhat.
And she jumped with a yelp when a man stepped out from behind the corner of the building right in front of her. It was only at the last second that she steadied her bag, preventing her shopping from spilling out over the street.
"Gosh, you scared me," she tried to brush it off with a laugh before she noticed the way the man was looking at her. Almost.... hungrily.
"Slayer...." His voice was almost a growl and Faith frowned with confusion.
"I'm sorry, I do not know what you are talking about." She made to move forward before the man adjusted his position, blocking her path. Faith tried again and was once more blocked. "Now if you'll excuse me, I really must be going," she tried insisting, but the man just kept blocking her, a leering grin appearing on his face.
"I smell fear, how is that.... but oh, you don't know who I am, do you, Slayer. What I am."
"I assure you, I have no idea what this Slayer nonsense is," Faith's voice trembled slightly. "No, please let me pass."
"Let me think a moment, no." The man hit her hard across the face, causing her to drop the bag and fall to the ground, pain flashing through her head. Blood trickled down from the cut by her eye and she looked up, utterly terrified, tears beginning to form in her eyes.
"What are you---" she was cut off as he lifted his foot and kicked her on the other side of her head, making her see stars. And he must have given her concussion or something, because when she looked up at his face, it changed, his eyes becoming yellow as his forehead shifted and fangs grew from his mouth.
"I am going to eat you," the thing stated, the fangs making his leer even more twisted.
Faith Cassidy fainted right there.
