Once upon a time there'd been a boy and his baby sister, and they were both in and out of foster care from the time they were born up until they had gotten fed up with the system and decided to make it on their own. Making it on your own in LA was tough, especially when you had to look out for people other than yourself. But they managed. Even started to help out a little with the neighborhood infestation problems. Them and their friends.
Then they met a guy. Tall, pale, sloping forehead. Then the sister was killed by the very things they were hunting, and her brother had to stake her.
Ancient history. It was almost poetic how things had turned out. Instead of staying with his family, Gunn had killed Alonna, his sister, and had gone with the vampire, named Angel, to create a new family. Slowly but surely they started dying, too, until the very end when he could no longer keep his eyes open. All for the people he loved. The same people that pulled the plug on him.
Now he was what he hated, and part of him was happy. That's what made it almost too sickening to handle.
He came from around the back, through the garden and up the stairs onto the small patio that normally shaded his old boss from the sun. You know, when it had been out. Pulling his hood off, damp with rain, he reached for the handle, his assumption that it would be unlocked correct. Stepping in out of the darkness and closing the door behind him, Gunn grinned. "Home sweet hotel!" he greeted the place, arms spread wide in a welcoming gesture the old building could not give its former occupant. The look of amusement faltered at the silence, almost turning to a sneer, but Gunn continued on down the inside stairs and into the lobby proper. "Anybody here? Fred?"
Not wanting to go too far -- she had said the number of people staying in the Hyperion had grown -- he tried to see if there was anyone in the office, leaning a bit to peer through the window. "Angel?" he asked, more cautious this time.
