Charlie had never been a big fan of the sun in the first place. It was always too bright, too hot - even for her - and was the only type of burn she'd ever really been able to sport for any length of time. Not that she was sunburned often since she did tend to move around more at night if she could help it, but she could still remember the peeling noses and itchy cheeks of her childhood. So really, when the sun went away, she wasn't complaining at all.
Of course, the insanity that seemed to be gripping Los Angeles at the moment wasn't something she was necessarily fond of either, but she reckoned when you got rid of one thing you had to replace it with something else. In this case, sunlight was replaced with terror. She could cope with it. She wasn't afraid, after all.
Or, at least, she wasn't afraid of the vampires and demons running amock. Nor was she afraid of the dark itself. She wasn't even all that scared of her boss somehow learning that she had helped save Angel's sister all those weeks ago. There was, however, one thing of which Charlie was well and truly terrified. And now, either because of this eclipse or in spite of it, she was quite possibly going to have to face that fear head-on.
Being replaced.
Until recently, it had never been a very rational fear on Charlie's part. She had never met anyone who could replace her, so therefore the threat of being replaced wasn't a very realistic one. However, with the arrival of Azula, and Wolfram & Hart's seeming determination to make the Fire Nation Princess enjoy every single minute of her stay in L.A., Charlie was all too quickly realizing just how easily replacement could come.
It was ridiculous, really. Azula was a firebender. Charlie was a pyrokinetic. There were subtle - and some not so subtle - differences in the two. Charlie could quite possibly destroy the entire world if she put her mind to it. She shouldn't feel threatened by someone who not only lacked that particular ability, but also had to do all sorts of zany movements in order to even make the fire really do much of anything. Yet, she not only felt threatened, she felt it to the point that she didn't even want to be in Wolfram & Hart at the moment.
So she took to the streets. It was better this way, anyway. Rumor had it that the firm was trying its best to get Darth Vader to pay a visit and if there was one thing Charlie wanted to do even less than be replaced, it was come face to face with him. So yes, the streets really were for the best for the time being. After all, the odds of running into either Azula or Vader were pretty slim in all of the chaos.
Rounding a corner, she managed to side-step a man who was on his cellphone and bleeding from a gash in his forehead. Her nose wrinkled at the sight of the blood but he paid her no mind. Just kept saying into the phone, "I'll be home soon!" as he brushed past her and continued on his way. Turning to watch him go, she turned back in the direction she'd been going and literally ran face-first into someone. Charlie grunted and took a step back, a sigh passing her lips at her luck, or lack thereof.
