"It was nice," she admitted after a moment's pause, thoughtful. "In some ways, I miss it. The day-to-day stability of knowing that some super villain wasn't about to show up and wreak utter havoc. But I've been more content with my life here than in years." It likewise went unspoken on her end, the fear of someday returning alone. At any moment, she knew, the Powers That Be (the possibility that the Senior Partners had picked her out was zilch) could decide that they were done with her and send her back.
It terrified her, when she thought about it. She was unable to wrap her head around the fact that she could arrive back at home, with no hope of ever finding the lawyer again because he simply didn't exist in her reality. With every day that passed, she found herself more and more head-over-heels in love with him, and Cathy was certain that she couldn't survive another relationship torn apart, even if it was at the hands of a higher being.
Talk about being 'from two separate worlds'.
"That's what I thought," she contributed with a single nod, a scowl appearing on her face this time. "That bitch."
