Cathy was in a hurry to get home, upon clocking out after her day shift at the restaurant. The day had been kind to her, her last table in particular providing some much-needed comic relief that made the time fly. Incidentally, tips hadn't been half-bad either, which never hurt. Her reward for a day's work well done in pocket, she was looking forward to a shower and some time alone with her boyfriend (and of course, the puppy) before the inevitable retiring early. Dreams be damned, she was bound and determined to catch some decent sleep before the deprivation made her sick.
Lindsey was asleep on the couch when she made her entrance, falling deliberately quiet when she saw him there, cautiously taking off her shoes and setting her keys on the first available surface. Cerberus leapt from the couch to bound over to her, tail wagging excitedly as if she had been gone for months. Holding a finger over her lips, she shushed him silently as the other hand scratched behind his ears, like he had any idea what the gesture meant. The puppy simply cocked his head before turning around, attention diverted to his favorite squeaky toy.
It was good that he was sleeping, considering that the activity was one in which he never quite partook to her liking. Such was one of the habits that worried her for him, and his health. Cathy would have no qualms about letting him rest like that for the whole night, if he could. Tiptoeing over to the lawyer, a soft smile appeared as she looked down at him, fading with the realization that his expression was a distressed one. Gently, she sank to the couch beside him, a hand resting against his back as she pressed a kiss to his temple, attempting to gently rouse him from whatever he was dreaming. "Lindsey." It was no more than a murmur in his ear, but her tone was firm, demanding. "Lindsey, wake up."
