Jack arrived early in the afternoon to the site he'd chosen just needing some time to be alone. He'd have to thank the girl on the boards later. She was right about the spot being a good one. He wanted to go to Heather's party originally but at the same time he didn't. It just wasn't something he could do yet, Sam was right this wasn't something he could just accept and pretend everything was shiny and okay again. No matter how hard he tried and probably wouldn't be for a long time. He'd even told a few he was fine in attempt to reassure himself, but honestly he didn't know what he was. Out of the corner of his eyes he spotted the yellowish flowers and support shown by A.I. and a ghost of a smile touched his face.
He should have protected her, he should have been there. Even now he should be crying or something but no tears would come just yet. None had come since the news of Kira. And he was starting to think something was wrong with him. It was like Jack was walking around in a state of shock even as he poured the gasoline on the body and dusted it with rock salt while people started to gather once the sun set into the water. The ranger didn't know what to say so he said nothing as he finished, and struck a flame with matches he'd pulled from his pocket. The orange glow of crackling fire reflected on his skin. He wore his red and black S.P.D. uniform it seemed appropriate and respectful. Memory of her song played like a broken record trapped on repeat through his mind as he concentrated on the flames distantly. He kept his back turned to the growing crowd until he could get his emotions under control. At least long enough to say what was on his mind.
Patiently by Kira Ford. [Emma Lahana]
Looking back, I don't regret...
One single day.
Memories will keep me close...
When you walk away.
It's harder than I could imagine.
I guess I should have known that.
Close your eyes, I'll be there.
I'll come running anywhere.
"Once a ranger. Always a ranger." He managed quietly as he felt his heart break, while Kira was enveloped by flame and he almost couldn't see her anymore. Jack wanted nothing more than to reach out and stop the fire, somehow find another way but he knew it was the right thing to do. So instead he found the strength to speak to the rangers and people who'd gathered directly. A nice distraction. "We are a team. I want us all to be together as friends, and teammates. To.." His eyes shifted to Sam and Buffy as he hesitated before he went back to speaking steadily to the rangers. But not just them, everyone who'd shown and it showed in his voice as he tried to look at them all. "To always keep fighting. Even though she's gone, I know that's what she'd want us to do. Never give up. It takes heart to keep fighting, even when we don't stand a chance. But if we do that together maybe we'll make a difference to this world, and then I think she'll be happy. Thank you..all of you for coming, it means a lot to us and her. " He was never good with speeches but something had to be said, it just seemed half empty without words. Then he didn't know what else to say, it was like his voice refused to work properly. She was really gone. All these people were there and he'd frozen.
