Integra Hellsing had always prided herself to be an oddity amongst a herd of people she was supposed to guard and protect. Certainly, she didn’t consider herself more than a human being, but she was confident in her strengths and limitations. That day, when her body breathed life and her heart began to beat once more; unlike the majority of the deceased she had no sequels of jarring welcome to life. There weren’t endless monologue over the impossibility of such feat nor thanking the Lord in Heaven for such miracle.
Instead, aged twenty-five, the first thing the Hellsing realised when she came to her senses was that there was a severe lacking of the paperwork she employed as substitute for blankets over her nose and that her pyjamas had grown too tight fit. They appeared made of steel and leather. Her back ached by how hard and uncomfortable the soft mattress had become as if was made of stone. There was something else, a minor bother in her right hand ring finger and, finally a cold bump pressed against her back. Strong hands she knew couldn't belong to Seras and an inert mouth which didn’t breathe against her ear, so close to her neck! Her right eye opened wide.
There was a bloody vampire in her "bed."
Immediately, she reached for the sword that was casually under her hands. She didn’t stop to think why she was sleeping with her blade when she kept a gun under her pillow out of habit. Nor did she notice how atrophied her muscles appeared to function when she spun around in slow motion to try and stab multiple times the undead who had dared to slumber beside her.
Pity about the sheets. That blood would stain them irredeemably. Good thing there seemed to be no sheets or bed at all.
