He didn't even fidget when his brother told him to shut up. Normally, he would have something smart to say, or a your mom joke - even though they shared the same mother but nothing would come to him. Not even a shut up, Joe in return, just a blank look before he turned back to the sheet covered form on the bed.
When Joe gave him, what he guessed to be some sort of form of comfort, the youngest Jonas remained completely still. While Joe was trying to be the rock, Nick was acting like one and it didn't appear like he wanted to be leaving anywhere any time soon. He closed his eyes, forcing himself to look away from Alex's body and replied with a cool, even tone. "She wouldn't have wanted to die, either. I guess she just isn't getting what she wants today."
His eyes remained closed, he didn't want to look at the hospital bed anymore and be forced to come face to face with reality. He wanted to believe nothing that had just transpired was real.
"Just.. go. I don't want to leave. I'll come home when I'm ready." They both knew that wasn't true. If Nick got his way, there was one thing for certain, and that was that he wouldn't be coming home ever if he walked out in his current state of mind.
