This was insane. People weren't supposed to die. Especially not Alex shaped people. It had to be some kind of terrible joke. Joe saw that message and mechanically pulled on some more suitable clothes. He didn't know what would make Kevin angrier, that he was taking the keys without a word, or that it was him driving by himself. It would probably be a 50/50 tie. He didn't care. He had to get to Nick and nothing would get in his way.
Red lights were sped past, sirens were in his rear view mirror. He didn't stop. They could ticket him at the hospital if they still needed too while he was making sure Nick didn't do anything stupid. He was supposed to be the rash immature one, he didn't want to see Nick fall down that path-it was a hard one to break. For a moment he could feel his chest tighten as he finally slammed on the breaks and the truck fish tailed around a corner. Normally this would have been cool, it was like a dare devil high speed cops and robbers chase but his mind was on more important things then the loud speaker commanding that he stop and pull over. It only went through one ear and out the other. He didn't stop until he got to the hospital and ditched the truck in the loading zone. Steam rose from it as it tried to catch up with Joe's hash movements. It hissed as he yanked the keys from it and jumped down to the asphalt.
"Nick.." He looked in each direction and finally approached the desk. "Alex Russo and Nick Jonas." The woman at the front desk watched him with an expression that made his heart sink. "Where are they!?" This didn't happen to them. It was all sort of surreal. Everyone in the hospital seemed to move in slow motion, even the nurse receptionist who handed him a pass and a number. Quickly he thanked her and moved down the hallway. With every step towards his brothers room number and Alex's former he could feel the tension thicken. "Nick?" Joe said as he frowned and yanked open the door-not caring about the strange looks doctors gave him for barging in without being certain where he was going. None of them mattered.
