Annie wasn't comfortable around very many people. To date, in the city of Los Angeles, she'd managed to feel at ease around all of three people. Mantis, Angel, and that other vampire, Edward. No one could really say why that was - not even Annie, really - but it was fact. So when she'd realized people were gathering downstairs, and that Mantis was coming to take her to that meeting, she hadn't wanted to go.
She had, though. For him. Because some part of her realized that, as much as he'd helped her find a place to stay where she'd be safe, she also helped him keep the voices out. So she put on her boots and brushed her hair and waited for him to arrive at her door. And she'd allowed him to lead her down the stairs and into the lobby.
That was about as far as she got, however. The minute he stopped, she all too happily stopped as well. Clutching her stuffed rabbit tightly, there she stood, her attention focused to the side of the room rather than everyone present. She would have stayed like that, too, if one thought hadn't made its way to her much louder than all of the others.
Brow furrowing, her attention snapped to the man lounging on the couch. She wasn't sure what a pyro was, but she was positive that Mantis wasn't it.
Before she could say anything, however, another voice - this time verbal - was addressing the man behind her.
"I'm glad you both could make it!"
It was Cordelia. She wasn't so bad, really. She didn't try to make Annie talk, or really participate in anything, and she made sure she had food when she was hungry and plenty of paper and crayons. She reminded her a little of Sister, though not really.
Still, she wasn't talking to her, so Annie kept her attention on the Scout and stepped a little closer to Mantis as though to shield him from the others. Or perhaps fade into the background herself and let his presence draw all of the attention. With her, there was really no way of knowing.
