He had waited long enough, and his anticipation was now at a breaking point. That was why Sylar stood here now, at the address Charlie McGee had given him. It had been several days since his precognitive powers had forced him to draw a sketch of himself locked in a romantic embrace with Claire Bennet – the girl he wanted dead more than anyone else in this world…or any other for that matter. The sketch, not surprisingly, had baffled him (actually, that’s quite the understatement), and now he had decided it was time to finally start figuring out what exactly it meant.
The Wolfram & Hart arranged meeting had been a temporary interruption, but now he was glad he had attended. For one thing, it had been far more interesting than he had expected, and it actually felt somewhat nice to know that there were many others in this world – and city – that had the same sort of moral leanings as he did. And, yes, it felt even better to know that, due to their newly formed alliance (as loose as Sylar suspected it might ultimately be), he actually had people he could approach for help, if need be.
That’s what had brought him here, tonight. He knew it was finally time to find Bennet, and prove that picture wrong, but before rushing out of the new expensive penthouse apartment W&H had graciously set him up with, he had stopped himself, and contemplated what was to come. Claire knew he was here in the city – he had his failed attempt on her life to thank for that. What’s more, it was possible that she was still with Elle Bishop. And although Sylar couldn’t wait to also give Bishop his special attention, he was smart enough to remember how she had gotten the better of him last time.
And, besides, from what he had heard at the meeting, this city was positively crawling with do-gooders…an unfortunate by-product of also being infested with evil, he supposed. Given that, he had no way of knowing just how much protection Bennet might have around her. He had grown cocky in the past, and each time it had come back to haunt him. Never again, he vowed. If he was going to go after the cheerleader again, perhaps it would be a good idea to enlist some aid.
But, from who? The meeting had been full of individuals who he assumed would understand his desire for power, and perhaps even sympathize with his quest for revenge. But, the truth was, Sylar didn’t exactly trust many of the people he had met that night. No honor amongst thieves, and all that. Some of their personalities had rubbed him the wrong way (how could anyone possibly hope to work alongside that Ryan, for instance), while in other cases he was simply unsure of what to even think about who they were. In his new life, Sylar had come to accept many strange things, but that didn’t mean he was at a point where he was willing to team-up with aliens, or the devil himself.
And so, he had considered those he had met that night, and had finally settled on the one who called herself Narcissa. He tried not to think of the irony of this – for all his problems with them, here he was looking to invite yet another blond woman into his life. Still, he had been impressed by how she carried herself at the meeting…her sense of elegance and the sheer amount of power she could radiate with just a look or gesture. Plus, although she wasn’t the only one there who had introduced herself as one, he was intrigued by the idea of a witch, and wanted to learn more. In his world, anyone with powers had been granted them thanks to a genetic mutation – mutations he was able to steal and take as his own. Magic was something he was unfamiliar with, and he figured he should start to get used to it if he was going to exist in this place. And if it turned out he was unable to steal it, the way he did other powers, then he would settle for having someone who could control it by his side.
For all these reasons, he felt this Narcissa might be a good place to start. If things didn’t work out, or if he decided he would need a little more help, then he had a short list of others from that meeting in mind. But he would go to her first.
He had contacted Charlie, and told her he wished to speak further with Narcissa. He hadn’t told her why, and thankfully, she hadn’t asked. There would probably be a lot of secrets within this group, he figured, so he wasn’t surprised that Charlie hadn’t tried to press the issue a little bit. Still, he figured it was a safe bet that Charlie had informed Narcissa he was coming, and that was fine with him. The last thing he needed was any sort of misunderstanding that might lead to another fight with a powerful blond. There would be time for that later, after all…except, if this worked out, perhaps he would have his own powerful blond watching his back.
And so, here he stood, at the door to a suite in The Victor. Not wanting to appear threatening, Sylar put on the best polite smile he could muster, and knocked…
