There could be amnesia times, there could be jokes on the message boards, there could be all kinds of questions as to the trustworthiness of a deceptive demon, but every evening there was still patrol. Honestly, Faith had come to find that she sort of enjoyed the routine of it. Even though she shook things up sometimes, took different routes or did extra time, there was something soothing about just going out, a stake in her hand. Some vamp stakings to take the edge off whatever tension she was feeling on any particular day. Often she felt too tense whenever she hadn't had a good fight in a while, but she just couldn't bring herself to agree to throw a round or two at Spike's place.
So patrols would just have to do. While everyone else on her team was required to patrol in pairs, the numbers didn't always work out. And seeing as she was the boss of that, she figured one of the privileges was being allowed to go out alone, though she did concede to having her phone and pager with her at all times. Just in case. Safety was one thing, but there was just something fun about going out solo, just her and the vamps.
In this case it was five vamps. Not a bad number, she'd taken out larger groups before and yet they were just big enough to be interesting. Worth taking on for a longer fight than just a stake and dust. The Slayer grinned darkly as she got into the skirmish, ducking one blow before swinging her elbow into the throat of another vampire.
Even things that didn't breathe still choked. Interesting.
"And if it's not too much trouble, can you not hit my face?" She asked, almost conversationally with a cheerful grin. "Got a wedding in a few days." And while Slayer healing was amazing, she didn't want any lingering black eyes. She was a bridesmaid after all and that would mean pictures. And resorting to the superblood for bruises just didn't sit right with her.
The largest vampire didn't seem to want to agree to that little proviso, lunging as he did right for her jaw. Faith sighed, shaking her head before she moved, faster than any human could. With a strength and accuracy that came from being a Slayer, she twisted, ducking underneath his blow and coming up just in front of his chest, whipping up her stake to slam into his heart.
She sneezed as some of the dust got into her nose.
Her dispatching of their friend made the other vampires pause, clearing reevaluating if these were even close to fair odds. Faith grinned again, her good mood restored. "One down, four to go. Who wants to be next?"
