Normally Hannah would never have lashed out like this but she was feeling vulnerable where her friends were concerned. Justin was always telling her to calm down and just accept things for what they were when he wouldn't even do the same thing. On the other hand she had Ernie who was so oblivious when it came to relationship dynamics that she really was beginning to wonder if he truly did love her as much as he said he did. Now on top of that she had Justin obviously wanting Ernie the way she did and Ernie not seeing it for the truth that it was. If she knew that Ernie actually shared more emotionally with Justin than he did her, Hannah would likely be pushed over the edge.
"Yes he does," she lifted a hand of protest toward Justin. "You just don't see it. You don't see anything but what you want to see," now she along with Justin had tears in her eyes. She didn't want Ernie to make a choice between them, honestly she didn't. Hannah just needed reassurance that she was more than just a bird on his arm. Ever since their dynamic had changed she felt more and more like just some girl coming between two best friends. Based on what she had seen tonight she knew there was more to it. "He loves you the way I love you. He needs you the way I need you. But you don't need me the way I need you and it hurts like hell." She pulled her arm away from him and turned her back the tears falling as he chose to address Justin.
