Entry tags:!status: incomplete, ^date: november 19 2003, character: lavender brown, character: michael corner, character: terry boot

Characters: Michael Corner, Terry Boot & OPEN to Vistors
Setting: Hogwarts Hospital Wing, 19 November 2003, 10:00am
Rating: General Public
Summary: Michael's friends and family are in for a surprise when they see him and they may not be happy with each other either.

Michael had a rough night, but he was glad that Pomfrey had been willing to look after him even though he wasn't a student anymore. Obviously it wasn't her job, but he had been in pretty bad shape when he showed up on the grounds and Hagrid had been walking to his cabin when he happened upon Michael crawling from the Forest, shifting from wolf to human and barely still conscious by that point. With his leg then broken and his burned skin infected not to mention the issue with his eye, Michael was not doing that great when Hagrid rushed him to Pomfrey's care. She had not been willing to risk apparating him to St. Mungo's so she coordinated with them and they said that it was best that he stay there overnight and they would help move him when he was more stable.

He would have liked to say that the restitching of his broken leg had been the worst of it, but with infections in his burned skin, that was definitely not it. The burns were not looking well and he had to have loads of disgusting smelling ointments spread all over his burns and Pomfrey had not yet said anything to him about his eye; she said that he was best to talk to someone at St. Mungo's about that, but he knew that she just didn't want to tell him the bad news he already knew.

Terry had already said he'd stop by which Pomfrey might actually welcome seeing as he had Healing experience and Michael was just glad to be able to see everyone again. After spending three days out in the middle of the forest being tortured and barely fed, it was definitely a welcome sight to have a warm bed and familiar walls and faces to see again, even if his own face was not going to be familiar to them.

Michael smiled the best he could when he saw Lavender, still not really sure what sort of reaction she deserved. He knew that both of them were going to be a bit odd at this point and considering why he was abducted to begin with, Lavender was certain to be blaming herself for all of this which was not what he wanted to see happen. But he knew it wouldn't really matter what he tried to say otherwise.

"Hey Lav," he replied, setting his book down. It was weird reading out of one eye, but he was sure to get used to it eventually, just like everything else he'd have to get used to, like the looks he was going to receive now that he would have scars on his face. "Thanks for coming by."

Something in her stomach lurched when he spoke. She still didn't really know where she stood, but it all just seemed to be happening without her control. "My God, Michael..." Even as much as she hated when people stared at her scars, she couldn't help but need to just look at the new marks on his face. They weren't beautiful, character building, or any other thing than something to carry around.

That was about when she finally did lose it. She probably had no right to be crying, not when he seemed so nonchalant about it. Except that he was only in this position because of her. "Michael, I am so sorry this happened, not that is ever..." Without really thinking about it, she was crossing the distance until she was at his bedside. And as much as she wanted too - perhaps even needed to reach out and touch him, she hesitated.

Michael didn't want her to react this way, but he should have expected it. He hated that she was going to blame herself for this and he had no way to talk her out of it. It was true that if he hadn't been connected to Lavender he wouldn't have been abducted, but then he wouldn't have been connected to Lavender. He didn't think the trade off was that great.

"Lav..." he started, watching her react, rushing to his bedside but hesitating to touch him. This didn't surprise him; Madam Pomfrey had warned him that some people might be afraid to look at him and some might be afraid to touch him. It was a natural reaction and he shouldn't take it personally - they had to get used to the new Michael. He reached out his hand and took hers, hoping to give her some sort of comfort. "Hey, it's fine. It's over and I'm okay."

It wasn't that she didn't want to touch him exactly. It was more that she was afraid he didn't want to be touched. When she had been in this position she could barely stand people looking at her, let alone touching her. In many ways he was so much stronger than she was and she wasn't sure how to handle that. "Michael," she said again looking down at where their hands were connected.

"Are you...did he...is it?" For someone who was usually filled to the brim with too many words there was a noticeable lack right now. Maybe she didn't want to name it. Really just then, about the only thing she wanted to do was to slip off her boots and force herself into that little bed with him probably just about as much as comforting him as it would be in finding comfort for herself.
