Characters: Lavender Brown and Agatha Bole
Setting: DMLE, around 3pm-ish
Rating: PGish?
Summary: Lavender is going to report that Fenrir has Michael.

Unfortunately wanting something to not be true, didn't make it true. She knew that, she just wasn't ready to accept that as a possibility. Rather than go back to her flat, she left the bakery and headed over to The Leaky Cauldron wanting to see if when Michael was scheduled to work and if he had been in the past few days. Someone had to have seen him.

Even in her irrationality that this wasn't happen, she could be rational.

At the Leaky, Tom told her that Michael hadn't shown up to his last couple of shifts. And that after being late on Sunday, he had owled Seamus to see if he knew anything, but Seamus didn't know anything. Lavender almost lost it at that point - she and Seamus weren't on good terms as it was and she got that he was dealing with stuff too, but this was different and also bad. Very Bad. Instead she thanked Tom and headed over to Michael's flat needing to hold onto that fraying strand of hope he was there.

However his flat didn't have any sign that Michael had been there recently. And by that point she really wanted to freak out or do something stupid because it meant it was true. Except that would mean breaking a promise she made to Michael, which she didn't think was fair because this was his life on the line, because of her!

Fenrir Greyback had Michael. He might not even...Oh God, she was not going to think that. He was alive, he was whole. Greyback wouldn't just kill him - not if drawing out the process would hurt her more. He was a monster. He was a monster and Lavender had basically handed Michael right over to him.

Lavender was spiraling. She knew she was spiraling. The problem was that right now Michael was also the person she went to when it got like this. All she had wanted was a next to normal afternoon with apple strudel and a boy, and now she had this.

Pulling at the seams a little, she apparated to the Ministry. Stupid promises. Lavender was directed to the DMLE reception area where she probably should have sat and patiently waited until the receptionist dealt with the people in front of her, but she wasn't feeling overly patient. Instead she just went to the desk, ignoring the look she received. "I need to speak to someone about the Greyback case. Auror Agatha Bole if she's available. It's actually really important."

She bit her lip, sensing not frustration or anger, but the first bit of hope she'd felt in days. Perhaps Greyback could have been talking out of his arse, or perhaps he really didn't know where Lavender lived. Or perhaps Brown and her family had moved as she'd recommended.

"Did you and your family move as I'd asked?" she asked, while her mind churned away on an idea.

Lavender made a face. "No, but what does that have to do with anything?" However, she had moved back into her flat over the weekend, the wards back up, and the place something closer to being secure once more. It meant she wasn't in Eastbourne, she wasn't putting anyone at risk - or at least that was what she thought it meant.

"He has Michael. It's probably only a matter of time before his parts or something start showing up at my door or the cafe." And that thought sent her spiraling again. It was exactly what Professor Trelawney had said - someone close to her was probably going to die and of course it had to be the one person she actually let get close.

"It's important because it means he doesn't know where you are, which means his earlier meeting with you was coincidental rather than a deliberate search on his part."

She absently traced her index finger on the table before her as her mind thought through her options. "He has Corner, but what he wants is you. What do you say we give him what he wants? On our terms, at least."

She usually didn't like the idea of putting civilians at risk, but Greyback would kill and turn as many as he could if left unchecked. The sooner she got to him, the better.

"That's because I'm not in Eastbourne anymore." She didn't believe it was coincidental that Greyback had showed up in Eastbourne. Not if his turf was usually up near Hogwarts. It should have put almost an entire country between them. However, before she really had time to think about that too much more, there was that option.

"What are you talking about? Give him me?" Lavender really wasn't sure how that was better. "And what's to say that he doesn't kill Michael anyway or-" No she was still not thinking that. "I mean it's not like he's a man of his world or anything - or you know a man at all."

"Greyback cares more about increasing the size of his pack than killing, though he finds that amusing on occasion," she waved off. "But he hates those that got away, sees them as failings on his part that he wants to correct."

Her hands rested on her hips as she looked at the girl with a serious look on her face. "You could send him a reply, say you're willing to trade yourself for Michael. I can fix it so you'll disappear before his hands are even on you, as long as Michael's with me. Or I could think up any number of things, so long as you get close enough to do them. What do you say?"

The problem with telling Lavender Brown a plan was that the moment she heard it, she needed to act. She had something she could do and she was going to do it - even if she had promised to Michael she wasn't going to try anything stupid. This wasn't stupid, an auror was telling her to do this.

It was still risky, but she didn't think she could handle if Michael was hurt or worse because of her. It was already bad enough and she needed to fix this.

"I can do that, as long as you can do what you say you can." Lavender reached into her bag and pulled out her proper journal rather than the copy of the exchange she had showed Agatha earlier. Pen in hand she took just a moment to decide what she was going to write before scribbling the reply to Greyback. "So, what? Now we just wait to see if he responds?"
